I love how it combines all Maker passions - the hardware side, software ingenuity, radio wireless comms using digital protocols, and especially outer space tech - its a Maker tour de force. Even something like a dedicated repeater has to address having a receiving antenna and transmitting antenna operating in close physical proximity - those industrial grade repeater installations up on mountain tops are really something - now condense that concept down into a tiny, affordable LoRa gadget - couple to a solar panel and appropriate battery, a weather proof enclosure - then spread them across the land on rooftops like a modern day Johnny Appleseed planting apple trees across a continent

I was wondering about polarization of the signal. The antenna on the satellite suggests linear polarization (simple dipole). If this is true, then won't you experience an additional loss with mis-matched polarizations - or are you using a circular polarized antenna and accepting the loss? I looked on the fossasat page for electrical design info, but didn't see anything related to this.

I accept the loss. A circular antenna would also not be the solution if the transmitter is linear.

At the higher ISM (900 vs. 433) frequencies, doppler shift will be a bigger issue, especially at lower apparent elevations when the path length is changing more rapidly. I wonder if the space segment receivers have any special tweaks to deal with this? Hello guys, i would love some insight help on how could I start with satellite tracking/ communication over the ku band with an arduino board. is that possible? How could I make such a dish or what should I study to learn such aspects...

Maybe you watch my other satellite videos. There you find links.

Andreas, who is the manufacturer of the LoRa module? Also difficult to hear the name of the ST chip. Do you know if the source for the hardware is possible to download somewhere? Happy new year :-)
@AndreasSpiess4 жыл бұрын
I got the device from Lacuna because I am one of the early testers. After official launch you should get all the diagrams etc. to build a Station.

@@AndreasSpiess OK, as an early viewer :-) Can you have a look at the motherboard and tell me the manufacturer part no of the LoRa module?

Congratulations ! Problem is that it is going to be harder and harder to beat distances record now. Next target ? The moon ? The ISS ?

My record was done 3 years ago and on earth. The moon would be cool ;-)

Thks & Amazing but it would seem doing the signal processing via software or FPGA would be better than thru a CPU.

The LoRa modules still contain conventional receivers, not SDRs

Tried to add FossaSat-1 to my Gpredict. Does not show up in the Satellite list. Ran the Update TLE data from the network and it updated, but still no FossaSat-1. Anyone know why?

Love your videos and just subscribed. Have been learning more about Lora and you have been a great help in this journey. I'm trying to create my own project but atm I have a very basic question. Can we use other Satellites/ Gateways to get info about our devices. Like lets say I have 8 devices I want to track in another country and I want to see their location ( don't need live location) from an website/app. As I said great channel and keep going.
@AndreasSpiess2 жыл бұрын
The TTN network is global. As long as your LoRa signal can be received by a gateway, you will get the messages

even some slow speed not 100% realtime APRS could help in case of stolen car, we have here in brazil in the outback huge areas without coverage of cell pager or whatever

I had some success with Apple trackers with our stolen bicycles (I made 2 short videos about it).

Great video as always. Lacuna does claim that the software and hardware are open source but they did not send me the source files when I requested them to. Is it possible for you to help me in this regard. I am working on developing a similar dev kit for academic purposes.
@AndreasSpiess2 жыл бұрын
I am not affiliated with them. I was just a beta tester.

You have to ask Lacuna. My groundstation still works.
