Adam started recording at 5:30am to get the sunrise and Rob started his at 11:30 or noon. This was shot in Deadwood, South Dakota. They were there for a concert Adam also sings in this one and gives us thst 5 part harmony Austin holds that last note for forever 10 to 15 seconds I forget how long lol

Gotta give Adam his props! It was a neat switch having the beats done on the body and leaving him available to add that 5th part harmony. Home Free did a beautiful job with this and I loved your breakdowns. When they start changing up the chords, it really draws your attention. Great reaction guys! ❤

This is one of my favorite Home Free covers they had made, in par with Hopelessly Hoping and Auld Lang Syne. This kind of song is where they shine altogether. No sick beats, pop vibes, just pure harmonies. It's so rare to hear Adam Rupp's singing voice very clear (the other one is "How Great Thou Art"), and that's why this song is one of my favorite covers Also, kudos for Darren Rust for arranging this song
@sandrastorer56283 жыл бұрын
They were using the good old-fashioned musicality of chords structures and progressions that you heard in music before the 60's. The use of half-step ascending and descending notes I heard was once very popular in melodies and within chords, but in the 60's started to be lost in pop music. Melodies, chord structures and progressions became more and more whole tone, simplistic and reduced, and in 50 yrs we're down to the one and two chord monotone "songs" that are considered hits! If you listen to the music of the big band era and into the 50's, both instrumental and vocal, you'll see what I'm referring to.
@daventunes38223 жыл бұрын
One thing that makes the part after the key change brighter is that they moved the lead melody to the high tenor (Austin), so all the harmonies were "underneath" for the most part. In the earlier parts of the song, the melody was in the baritone-low tenor range with at least one, maybe two harmonies higher than the lead.

Absolutely love this one, and it’s one of my favorites from their Land of the Free album! Those chords really got me, especially the ones at the end! I also enjoyed Adam’s change up and singing on this one! Loved the scene at the beginning showing him in the background! Gorgeous scenery and perfect for the song! Those harmonies are so magnificent! I always enjoy your reactions and music talk.

Thank you both. This was another HF video in South Dakota. One of the first videos that caused me to become a Home Fry last year, was God Bless the USA at Mt Rushmore. I loved that one of my favorite tenors, Adam Rupp sang on this! My other favorite tenor is Chris Rupp. His covers of Rockin (Rob)in with his sister Tristen and friends as well as Permission to Dance are fantastic! The Rupp family are one of my favorite family of musicians. To hear the other end of Tim’s range, his song Snow Globe is great.

This was filmed in the meadowlands of Deadwood, SD,. It is beautiful. Austin and Tim live in Nashville. I believe that both Rob and Adam Rupp are in Minnesota and Chance is in Alabama. Rick Beato does a great job of analyzing music on his YT channel. He does a regular post on "What makes this song great" looking at both current and past songs. He also regularly does a review of the current top 10 hits. Usually 9 of the 10 will be using the same 4 chords, and only those chords. In my opinion, it's why so much of today's most popular songs suck. A lot are written by computer to appeal to who knows what. I guess the people that just want a beat and something to dance to. Nice to know there are still some artists actually creating good music.

Austin Brown is from Georgia. Tim Foust is from Texas. They both now reside in Nashville. Chance is from Alabama, but now lives in L.A. However, the group is considered to be founded and based in Minnesota. That is because Rob is from Minneapolis and the Rupp brothers are from Manceto, just outside of Minneapolis. There is another guy named Matt Atwood who was the lead tenor that Austin replaced, who is also from Minnesota.

Love your reactions of Home Free as you actually have the knowledge to explain what the h.... they are doing. Fell in love with these guys a couple of weeks ago when I discovered them by accident (went right down the rabbit hole) and as my own knowledge of acapella is pretty limited its great to have the technicalities explained. Given the fact they are so tight and in sync it is sometimes hard to figure out who is doing what not to mention how they are building these harmonies. Greetings from Europe.

Technically, every major key has 3 major chords, all of which have relative minor chords which are 3 half steps down from the major tonic, minored. For instance in the key of C, the 3 major chords are C, F and G. The relative minor of C is Am (3 half steps down), the relative minor of F is Dm and the relative minor of G is Em. Then there of course are 2nds, 4ths (or sustained), 6ths, 7ths (both minor and major), 9ths, 13ths, etc. Most songs use the 3 majors and 3 relative minors. All of the others are embellishment and style chords. Accapella groups are great at using style chords.

This is a really good version of the song. Home Free knocks it out of the park. Ever since I got the album and heard this song, honestly my initial reaction was patriotic meets Christmas. This sounds like they were singing a Christmas song that just happened to be My Country Tis of Thee.
