FYI - Layne and Geoff are childhood friends and often pull stunts with each other. Watch VoicePlay's Little Mermaid Medley (You'll have a seizure over Geoff's run - D5 to D2 and drop to subharmonic D1 in seconds). Layne painted Geoff blue as Ursula and the two (they are both tall) are seated (as usual) and Layne is trying to crack Geoff up. Layne sings the short song of the crazy cook in the movie, and it's hysterical. Eli doubles as Flounder and the seagull (another humor moment). J None (now in the US Navy), did Oscar-winning Under the Sea part of the medley with a slight reggae twist.

The big guy is Jose Rosario (the guest singer) who was on broadway in Hamilton. The black guy is J-none, and Zero is Layne, who is the fantastic beatboxer and the arranger of most of Voiceplay's stuff. J-none is a baritone with a 4+ octave range. Zero = Layne Stein 🤣 Two Quick examples to explain Geoff's low notes: The "Carry On Wayward Son" low note is just a very deep chest Note by him (G1) The "Oogie Boogie" end Note or the one in this Video, which you described as "Hungarian Throat Singing", is actually a Bass Singing technique called "Subharmonics". It's hard to do and needs months or years of practice. He explains how to do this on his channel (like you already said) P.S. You should watch their "Little Mermaid Medley" and their newest Video "If I were a rich man/girl" 😉

Hi guys! I was rewatching this this morning (I tend to go back a few times to really absorb the music learnin’) and what you said about dissonance got me thinking. Pentatonix has an original song called Run to You that I think (now that I know what dissonance is...) makes really interesting use of that. Geoff is an incredible singer. My mans can hit an A5 "without straining himself too much" and an F#1 in chest voice. His subharmonics are richer than anyone else's and they go down to at least a C#0, at least that's around where he reached when showing off in a video, which is about 1.5 octaves lower than the foghorn note he hits here. He usually tends to stop around B0 in Voiceplay videos since they often sing in Bm, but occasionally hits A0 just for shits and giggles. That is literally the lowest key on the grand piano and mans can still go left for a while. That is ridiculous. I believe a contrabass and a bass guitar go down to E1 for comparison.

Awesome reaction as always guys! Yes, Geoff is the human foghorn as Tim is the human dragon's breath. It's insane how these guys can drop into that lower register with seemingly no effort. I've noticed that when Geoff is about to go subharmonic he holds his hands like he's holding a basketball & when Tim does it, it's usually his right hand like he's holding something down. If I am not mistaken, I think that is one of the "visualization tricks" that Tim had helped G with. It would be AWESOME if Geoff (or Tim even) would do an interview with y'all. Geoff does them a lot. Just a thought. Pretty sure that y'all would lose yer minds. He's a pretty great guy from what I've seen. My advice, When you cover a group like VoicePlay or Home Free or any other relitively small group, Get a picture of the group annotated with whatever information you may need: names, vocal ranges, past works, etc. have it on your phone and have that on the desk while you do these videos. That way you wont sit there calling Lane "Zero"
