I really, really love these cultural differences. When I heard about Project Cyrodiil for the first time back in 2024, I thought for sure it was going to be "morrowind 2, but with Imperials" - as in, that the modders would be too used to making places and quests and NPCs for the Dunmer cultural environment, and let these things influence the development and culture of Cyrodiil. I'm so glad to have been wrong, unironically. Via this contrast, you really get a major feeling for how and why both cultures work - the Dunmer are marked and animated by suffering, their lives are defined by toil and torment. Their religion is often violent and gruesome, their province is harsh and their culture cut-throat. The Imperials, meanwhile, are marked and animated by comfort, their lives defined by leisure and the pursuit of luxury. Their religion elevates ideals such as beauty and aesthetics, and the province (the part we've seen thus far, anyways) is pleasant and sunny. I didn't get as strong of a contrast with SHotN, probably because Karthwasten and Dragonstar are basically war-torn wastelands where everyone is destitute, but what few Nord cultural icons we've seen (like Jarl Jona) exemplify an almost casual, callous brutality, like they'd prefer to put in extra effort to make a death as gruesome as possible, where a dunmer would rather prefer to end a life quickly, and an Imperial would prefer to pay the victim to go away.

@@JRexRegis I suspect Jarl Jona is going to stand out more once Markarth arrives and we have more Nord cultural icons to compare her to - textually she is presented as brutal and violent beyond the Nord norm, or at least the norm of the Reach, but currently the only Nords in-game who come close to being a peer or superior is Prince Alrod (who is presented as a bit of an immature brat) and Thane Fomir (who is technically, if not practically, subservient to her).

Do you have some sort of audio mixer being applied while recording? The sounds sound compressed and lacking range. Also HRTF and the Camera Listener setting in the audio tab will cement the sounds in 3d space better, even if you don't use HRTF, camera listener improves third person audio

I notice that you aren't using the water shader. I'm personally waiting for OpenMW to recreate the original mercury-like pixel shader. I recommend the mod 'SSTh Low Graphics Water Retex' as it's a pleasing retexture that also adds some transparency.

Btw, there are three personalities you can assume for your Arena questline: the Brigand, the Pilgrim (that much you probably know), and the Creature (if you play as a beastrace). JimmyNuts did great job with the quests. Every role of the three presents the Arena story from a different perspective and changes the dialogue. It's basically three alternate questlines.

I love how their gladiatorial combat is basically fantasy WWE. Playing a role within a role playing game that you play for us all to roll with joy is tight. Addendum: I also find it great that your pit-fighting role is a lowly lice-ridden brigand while outside of that you're a bit of a posh snob, working for the queen and looking good with high social standing. Part of it is a matter of how long it took for conceptualization, but Stirk and early anvil was... rough. A LOT of time has been spent revitalizing it and rebuilding it and getting it into the peak state that the devs are happy with.

Shockingly good mod. Being an Oblivion enjoyer myself, its a breath of fresh air to see Anvil portrayed in such a lore rich setting. Played it for a whole week as a Level 1 Knight. Plenty of adventuring, talking, treasures and good-old-fashioned morrowind frustrations. Probably only touched 8% of total content and had fun. People that have tried the stirk mod before will be pleased to know that getting these big DLC sized mods to work isn't difficult anymore, just download the three part mods, throw in the folders, check mods in launcher, done. Glad they made this part easy. Oh and Warthunder is a good game. Just don't spend gold on unlocking vehicle progression and you'll be fine. Support the Warlock!

27:50 The Direnni are still extant, just nowhere near as powerful. You actually meet one in the Hammerfell Mages Guild quest in Home of the Nords. 40:44 This guy is the player character from Battlespire… sorta. Battlespire will have him (with a female PC) or his partner (with a male PC) as an ally that’s one step ahead of you, leaving stashes of useful items and notes with important discoveries to help you, till being captured near the end. Presumably the mod assumes that Battlespire was played in co-op (good luck getting that feature working!) and they are both the hero of the events, showered in riches for their role in protecting Tamriel from Daedric incursion and kneecapping Tharn’s plans by depriving him of a major ally. As for MW's combat (mentioned at various points) Morrowind combat actually has a lot of things going for it. The big one is that the weapons actually differ due to their weight, damage range (which is not a random range for the player), attack speed, reach, and enchant capacity actually having a lot of interactions. Playing a spearman who makes single, powerful, strikes to keep the enemy staggered plays quite differently from a character who uses an enchanted staff to rapidly apply its on hit effects. Even within a weapon skill, the subtypes can differ a good deal, especially with Tamriel Data’s additions (blunt is a bit of a jack of all trades: Clubs are fast and light, maces are pretty average, warhammers are almost as damaging as two handed axes but trade that last bit of damage for extra reach, staves have low damage but high range and speed with excellent enchanting ability). It’s never something I’d call good, but it’s clear a lot of the mechanics had thought put into them that makes it better than it looks and sounds. The problem is that the game is fantastically bad at actually EXPLAINING these intricacies: The game actually hide’s a weapon’s reach and speed statistics in the original engine for some reason, you’re never really told how stagger or damage ranges work, you don’t know that you can actually weaken enemies quite a bit by just forcing them to run to you (they have fatigue too, but you have no way to see it)

Dai-katanas/claymores look bigger than longswords and longswords look bigger than daggers, but in terms of actual gameplay they all have the same reach rating of 1.0. Meanwhile, warhammers seem to be the ~same size as dai-katanas/claymores or a bit shorter, but they actually have a reach of 1.5

I tried Tamriel Rebuilt around... Jesus, 4 years ago. They had finished most of the coastal towns, only the smallest towns below Ebonheart had actual quests. The rest was empty and dead, ghost towns. As I was no clipping around with speed set to 200, I felt oddly cozy with the flat plain yet to be worked on, empty mountains and assetless heightmaps. And I was taken aback by the sheer size of it, the idea that "Holy shit... they plan to actually add stuff TO ALL OF THIS?!" Complete mad lads.

They do, but people like simple and streamlined and it sells much better. Each time they "dumbed" the series down it sold more and more. Morrowind had lesser skills and customisation than daggerfall, oblivion had lesser than morrowind and so on. And each sold millions more than the other and broke records. Also, anothee point. Fans have been using and modding morrowind for more than 20 years, meaning they literally have more experience and tools than bethesda did or ever will have for developing stuff for morrowind.

Bethesda could've made Oblivion as compelling a world as Morrowind, even whilst simplifying the gameplay, the people who work on the gameplay are not the same staff writing quests and designing cities. They consciously chose to make a bland fantasy world.

There is a little bit of cyrodiil that is planned to be roman-italy in geography, The West Weald, but yeah, a driving feature of Cyrodiil is its climatological diversity and wetlands

i LOVE all of the tamriel rebuilt stuff, it inspired be to take a stab at modding for another game rimworld. im not the best so i might never finish but my goal is to make a mod that is half irl pre iron age armor and weapons and half ancient elderscrolls lore stuff. all because i found a bronze bird skull helmet in skyrim home of the nords.
