I've always seen the shot of Arbogast going backwards down the stairs as trying to replicate the unsettling sensation of falling backwards and trying to catch yourself, with time seemingly being stretched out due to shock, which happened to me as a kid. I actually did manage to "walk" down a few steps before losing complete control. The impact of the fall knocked the wind out of me and I couldn't breath. I almost passed out before I could finally suck in air again. I like the effect in the film because it is so unsettling and surreal. I don't know if that was the idea behind it, but that's how I see it.

Hi all. Hi Graham!. She wouldn't harm a fly! I liked the Mel Brooks movie High Anxiety. He duplicates the shower scene with a bellhop? bringing Mel Brooks a rolled up newspaper and "stabbing" him with it. It was hilarious.
