31 year old RV parked for years! Can we clean it up and camp in it?

Well after having engine problems with our 74 Minnie Winnie, and needing a motorhome to take the kids on a summer road trip. We decided to buy a cheap camper that came up for sale very close to our house. It is a 91 Ford brick nose E350 Winnebago Itasca 28ft motorhome with a 460 big block fuel injected and an overdrive automatic transmission. In this video we buy it, clean it up, and make sure everything we need is working. It has seen a lot of water damage but we think we can fix it up enough to take a trip in it this summer. Buddy you will get it straight . Raised 3 kids practically in a 77 dodge conversion van . I'm 57 now wow a lot of memories. Never took a vehicle to a mechanic still not. i have newer vehicles now and still wrench. One thing I will tell you you can take those kids to Disney or a cruise. But they will remember their mom and dad taking them camping more than anything else. Your a good man ......

This reminds me of my old 1983 Ford "HoneyBee" RV I used to have. It was almost in as bad of shape as this one when I bought it. FRP panels are what I used to finish out the back of our '75 Winnie when I redid the walls. It's nice because they have matching t-moulds & end caps to trim it out. Glue it to the new wood/foam ceiling, and call it a day. Resilient & rot proof.

I rescued a 1969 Shasta 17 ft from the Carson Forest area of New Mexico three years ago. This can be done if folks are mechanically oriented. Mine is on a solid E300. The solid 302, C4 automatic, and Ford 1 ton differential showed just 45000 miles then. The interior is in fair shape for being exposed in the weather for 15 years.

My Brother & Sister bought a couple of RV's. Bad leak in the back of one & they had to take off the whole skin. Reframed all the wall & had to remove alot of rotten wood. Parts were fairly reasonable to cheap. Looked ugly as hell thru the process but when done, they easily tripled the value. Lots of carpentry work though. Remember rain travels sideways when it enters the RV. So it is all thru the ceiling & should be removed to remediate the mold. Rug should come up too, so you can check for mold. Easier to replace with fake wood floor. Easier to keep clean & won't suck up the smells created over time. That turd looks like a good buy. we are in Lebanon, Tn if you need carpentry work help. Ty for taking us along

Cant wait for the follow ups to this video. I just love seeing unloved, unwanted machines of any sort being brought back to life AND used. The fact it's a motorhome makes it even more interesting. I remember our 1st caravan, I paid £250 for it, 30 years old and the guy I bought it off had used it for himself and his friends to go fishing in. Well, as I was towing it home I thought to myself "what on earth is my partner going to think of this thing?" SHE LOVED IT!!! 1st thing we did was rip the old Wilton carpet out of it and take every single door off the inside, deep cleaned every orifice and replaced all the doors with brand new brass hinges (she was an old girl). I replaced the carpet with a brand new item and the inside looked like a little palace. The outside was in pretty good condition so a real good wash, replace some small items of trim and we had, what I still consider to this day, the best caravan we have ever owned. Loved it. After digging out all the old sealant, around everything going through the roof. Clean all the area , where you need to seal, with isopropyl alcohol. Reseal with self leveling Dycor sealant. They also make a good product to paint on to seal the entire metal roof. Good luck, happy camping.

After you get your shape the way you want it just use 3m spray glue to attach headliner material onto the panels. Then use spray glue and finish screw to attach to your plywood. Very easy fix and will look great!! "

I think it's fantastic that both of you have regular jobs and are still able to be good parents and have fun family projects! I miss growing up like that! It was a great lesson that your life starts after your job is done, don't hit the couch, it's your time do something fun!
