Based on the weather observations and forecast I departed Janesville, Wisconsin (JVL) VFR. As I got close to Chicago Aurora (ARR) airport I picked up a pop-up IFR clearance to descend below the clouds. I then entered a busy air traffic control tower pattern. After a couple 360's, extended downwind, abandoned base for a Saberliner and rejoining the final, I landed safely back at the home airport.
The intro external views are still being fine tuned for regular use in future videos. :)

That climb through the clouds and the sun shining so bright was breath taking literally. Would love to experience that in person one day, our earth is so beautiful. And the land looks like it goes on forever like a never ending map so flat and perfect almost looks like a simulation with how perfect the clouds are too. thanks for sharing !

I'm having flashbacks, I worked ARR tower from 1977-1979 and RFD TWR/APC twice 1975-1981. Weekends at ARR often had hourly traffic counts of 100+. I recall having 10 in the RWY 27 pattern when a Lear showed up on final! I often used an overhead pattern to work in fast aircraft like yours. I'm also a PP and flew new Cessna's back from Kansas and around the area for Luminair. Those were the days. Thanks for your videos. FH

Caught your comment about not putting down flaps at lower altitude in case you lose an engine. I'm not a pilot but know that once you commit to flaps at low\slow there's no safe way to retract should you need to. Another very interesting video.

Kevin...I got to fly right seat in a Beech 18 with a buddy of mine, who was flying air freight for Blackhawk Airways out of JVL back in the 70's. We flew all night, carrying parts for GM plants in each city. We went JVL, STL, ORD, STL, JVL. put the bin full of parts into the plane, tied it down, then crawled over that bin of parts into the cockpit! I was amazed how busy these airports were at 2 in the morning....especially ORD!! Great fun pulling that all-nighter!!

Nice! I remember taking lessons in a C172 at the Aero Club at McClellan AFB in the mid '90s and will always remember the tower telling me, "Runway 16, cleared to land, caution wake turbulence from the landing C-5 Galaxy." I had an instructor with me and I'm pretty sure we extended out downwind for a while to let it dissipate. But it was pretty neat sharing the pattern with a C-5.

Kevin, did you get to ride in the Lockheed Electra at ACCA in Kansas when you were there? I did and it was a fabulous experience. Since that very plane was used in the filming of the movie Amelia, the Star, Hillary Swank signed the inside of the door. That too was a beautiful highly polished plane. The low pass over the runway was a great feature of that ride.

Soo Sexy! Every twin I have flown, the owner wants it to be flown a certain way... engine management stuff. I would LOVE it if you do a episode detailing what why and when you are doing with your mixture, CHT’s, EGT’s and fuel flows... and anything else you can Opine on. Thanks!
