Guy is so wonderful. During the lockdown, I returned to watching Time Team (I had enjoyed it during the first run) and found myself seeking out Roman episodes because he might be on them. Such a humbly knowledgeable chap - a pleasure to see him.

I think Guy is right. Who knows what will happend with satelites and GPS-system. Not long ago we used floppy disc and now almost nobody know what it is. After that we used CD's and now we store in harddrives. What's next? Everything is made of plastic and plastic will be destroyd with time.

I'm with Guy on that one. People 200 years ago were doing what they could with the knowledge of the time. It is shortsighted to blame them for not leaving records up to today's technological standards.

The only civilisations to have made lasting records were those who wrote in cuneiform script on clay tablets: Sumer, Babylon, Assyria, the Hittites and a few nearby cultures. Almost everything written on papyrus, parchment or paper in the following 2500 years has been lost.
