When I built the Covin I spent a few hrs at the scrap yard. Rover SD1 full wiring loom strip out. £20 This worked great as the length was more than I needed & it was a ribbon type loom. Other thigs like the electric window motors from the SD1 £15 each. I guess you have seen my video of mine. Another thing I saw when visiting the guys who were building these in Halifax was. They said it was better to fit the windscreen last as it makes wiring the dash much easier. However that is not how I did it. Hope it all works out. I think the most expensive thing apart from the Kit was the genuine porsche glass all round. From memory I got it from a breakers in Exeter. £450. But that was many moons ago. Steve.

Hey Steve, thanks for your comment, I’ve watched your build video a couple of times, in fact I was watching it again last night. Really interesting, clever guy, I loved the pop up lights part of the story. I miss being able to go to breakers yards and forage for parts. The good ol’ days eh!

@@air_cooled_andy Yes, most yards now will not let you in. My cousin Daz bought the kit after I'd finished mine. He did drag racing back then. He built a tube chassis & fitted a 350ci small block chev 5.7 litre Ls6 in the front. Apart from a small scoop on the bonnet you could not tell. 1st time out it did a 11.5 second run & then someone came up to him & immediately bought it from him. It belongs to some Lord down south now. Mine was seen in Middlesborough a few years after i sold it. But no idea if it still exists. Take care & will follow your build along. Don't forget to load the doors with all the weight it is going to have before fitting to the body. Ask me how I know. Measure once fit twice. haha. Oh & i filled the roof void with low volume filler foam to help keep down any drumming. Steve.

@Steviegtr52 Yep I recall all that info from your video Steve, found it really useful, thanks for taking the time to put that together. I looked into your cousin’s motorcycle accident too. Tragic mate. I have the May 1992 Street Machine magazine with his Covin build in it, it’s in front of me now. It wasn’t until I watched your video that I put two and two together and realised I had his article. My email address is uk_cruising@yahoo.com if you’d like me to photograph the pages for you 😊

Thanks bud! Yes the loom has all the earths built into it, I just need to bolt it to a chassis rail at one central point. 👍

As a Professional KZbin Keyboard Commentor, I can say that was a terrible way to mix that adhesive goop! As an amateur builder, "Hey, if it works. Then result!" 😅 Nice update, bonnet top side turned out really nicely! Looks the bit. That loom is terrific meanwhile. Looks even better than some OEMs I've dealt with.

If you don’t mind me asking how much does the custom wiring loom cost??
@air_cooled_andyАй бұрын
This cost me £1100 Justin. Worth every penny imho. The amount of hours spent beforehand just chatting all this through then trying to meet my requirements during its construction and the help I will no doubt receive during installation mean I’m very happy with the price. His standard looms are around the £550 mark on eBay.
