I've been watching stand-up comedy since the late '50s, and no one else has made me laugh as hard as Brian Regan. His rubber-faced delivery of the material is unmatched, as are his incredible vocal skills. I remember his 1992 appearance on Dennis Miller's late-night talk show. As he sat down to huge applause, Miller leaned over and said, "Brian, that's the funniest 5 minutes I've ever seen on television."

Funnily enough, I happened to see your comment on that page from 9 years ago! You said "I remember watching this the night it aired back in '92. Dirty comedy isn't even funny. Hacks fall back on it and just hope it has shock value.
@habbidasher69373 жыл бұрын
Richard Pryor, Dave Chappelle, Bill Burr, Louie CK, Eddie Murphy are 5 of the undisputed greatest to ever do it and they're all dirty. What makes you think it's a lesser form of the art? Matter of fact, what on earth makes you think it would be easier to get laughs being dirty? You think it really would be? Go out on stage and see how easy it is to get laughs when all you bring for the crowd is the word "fuck". You'll get crickets. There has to be jokes. You don't have a damn clue what you're talking about.
@TRJ22419873 жыл бұрын
@@habbidasher6937 in what way does saying 'clean' comedy is harder imply that 'dirty' comedy is easy? Or that after 25 years of watching stand up comedy I don't know what I'm talking about? Or that I've said anything to discredit the comics you have listed? I have literally heard over a dozen "dirty" comics praise Brian Regan and say that he kills with an act that they would get zero laughs with. Most people aren't even capable of forming sentences in a casual conversation without sprinkling fuck or shit somewhere in there. I would have a very hard time standing on stage and not casually swearing.

I agree with you on Walked on the Moon being great, but I don't see why you would call him a hack early on. I think of his first album as one of the best comedy albums ever (and I listen to A LOT of comedy), and aside from the 3 way bulb bit here, most of this evolved a bit and is on that album. The bulb bit is pretty hacky, but I think he realized that, took the same premise and that's where his trifocals bit came from.
