Hi there. Great video. Thx for the resources. My Schlage unlocks with the key from the outside, but the inside, where I don’t need a key to lock/unlock, will not unlock the door UNLESS the key has already unlocked the door.

This video made what I thought was going to be a nightmare very easy. I needed to change the cylinder to a new lockset that Schlage sent me. Thanks...you rock!

Great video, thanks for sharing that. The only time I removed one of these cores with the collapsible bibles, I got frustrated and cut the entire doorknob in half with my dremel tool. :p Glad to know there is a much easier way. Thanks for the knowledge :)

Thank you for the video, this is the closet I could find for what I need. I have a Baldwin door knob, with medeco m3 cylinder, would it be a similar procedure to remove the medeco cylinder? For some reason I can't find any videos on Baldwin locks disassembly. Thank you again!
@HelpfulLockPicker2 жыл бұрын
I don't think they would have a compressible cylinder. Most knobs you need to turn the key and push in a detent of some time to get it off.

Hi I know this video was so long ago. I hope that you will still see this comment and answer my question. After you get the core out, how can you pick it? I put it in the vice but what about the Bible's spring? Can I pick it as is or should I depress the springs?? I love your videos you explain things in a way that is easy to understand. I wish you had a hands on training class. That would be fantastic. Have a great day. 👍
@HelpfulLockPicker3 жыл бұрын
You would pick it like any other lock. If you are not experienced and just want it open I recommend using the key blank and shim approach.

Can you change the handling of the handle this way ? All of these Schlage locks seem to be right handed only. Where on a right handed door (hinges on your right when facing the outside of the door with the key hole). Allowing you to lock the door by turning the lock towards the door jam to lock. & back towards the hinges to unlock. Is there a way to switch that operation to make it work as a left handed lock ? Where on a door that has the hinges on your left side when on the outside of the door (facing key hole). Can lock towards the jam & unlock turning towards the hinges (or back to the upright position) ? In other words, to lock the door you'd: •From inside, turn the lock towards the left (counter clockwise). •From outside, turn the key towards the right (clockwise) ? Or is this impossible for schlage locks ?

Once you remove the cylinder, can you replace that old cylinder in a new lever and/or deadbolt, in order to not have to rekey? (all schlage products)
@kf15413 жыл бұрын
From an old lever to a new lever, and from an old deadbolt to a new deadbolt
@HelpfulLockPicker3 жыл бұрын
You typically can. But if you need one that needs a compressible bible you need to make sure you get the correct type. However, re-keying is easy and cheap. It would probably be the easiest choice.

I have a knob that I would like to get the core out of but I can't seem to figure it out. So the knob came out of a door and I don't know what key it uses I tried using a bunch of my keys but none of them goes in it. The knob has a square tube coming off the spring mechanism and there's a tongue that goes through to the twist-lock mechanism in the other knob. It's how I can unlock and lock it but I have no idea how to get the knob off the base anyone knows of a source that can show me how to do this I would like to repin my actual door lock its way cheaper than buying a new one but the only way I can is to practice on this practice knob I have. Can anyone help?

@@HelpfulLockPickerThe insides look like this lock. Right under the bold letters INTRODUCTION click the 2nd picture and you can see the square tube with the tongue I'm talking about. www.diynetwork.com/how-to/rooms-and-spaces/doors-and-windows/how-to-change-a-doorknob The knob looks like this though www.amazon.ca/Drenky-Stainless-Entracne-Passage-Lockset/dp/B074DCYYDF/ref=sr_1_16?dchild=1&keywords=door+knobs+lock&qid=1607541551&sr=8-16 but because you can't see the internals I don't know if its the same.

That looks more like a Kwikset type of lock. Check out Bored lock picker's video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaiXfqSrfdF3bc0
@KoolBreeze4204 жыл бұрын
@@HelpfulLockPicker Yeah I watched it that looks nothing like the internals that I have. The thing is this doorknob is the most common one here I've never seen one like he has the core could be Kwikset but the one on my door looks the same and is Schlage. Doesn't matter though I asked him the same question he got back to me and my Schlage tools actually worked in pulling this thing apart I have the core in hand it's truly amazing. I think I will have no issue as long as the one on my door comes apart as this one just did thanks again you always get back to my questions which is why I ask you when I'm truly stuck. Not sure if you remember but I had a Masterlock 570 I couldn't open for months now I can actually open it in a few seconds. Turns out I only needed to set like 3 of the 5 pins not sure why. I also bought a 2nd one and it has spools. I got lucky and opened it but only once so now I put spools in some of my practice locks, I find those pins extremely hard. Thank-you!
