Good stuff! Proper diagnosis there! Top tip: if the ADV101 type dac is used, the LM385 and C215/R215 (bottom) need to be fitted. If the VP101 dac is used, those three components aren't fitted but the small cap below the LM385 is (~0.1-1uF)

Thanks, I wasn't aware the ADV101 needed the LM385! In the next part I totally omitted that after swapping the VP101 for an ADV101 on one board. However, I measured 1.2v there on the vref, and it behaved totally normally!?! I've let the owner of the board know (he can easily fit an LM385-1.2 and the other components if needed.

@@GadgetUK164 I think it's worse the other way around, if D215 is fitted when a VP101 is used, you get offset white levels I think (too much brightness). If it works ok now, no need to change it I guess!

So much fine soldering...I struggle with surface mount stuff so much. BTW, apologies if I already invited you but May is celebrating the Amiga (just add hashtag #AMayGA to your May Amiga videos if you want to join). I'm getting an A600 soon that will need recapping so I'll get another crack at fine soldering :-/

Thanks for this video series! I was hoping you'd get around to fixing more A1200 boards. I have a stubbornly broken PAL A1200 board I got off eBay a while back with many problems and this gives me more things to consider. I already know there's an issue with the video DAC, as I could trace the blue video signals going into the chip but almost nothing coming out. It also had some bad ferrite beads going into the RGB connector, and someone had already removed the RF modulator and did a crappy job doing it... it's a real nightmare. Also there's the case of the missing mouse pointer - the pointer image is gone but it registers mouse clicks like normal. It's so very close to working... and maybe with the help of your videos I can get it completely solved.

Nice repairathon there👍🏻 I'm assuming that hot air station is the one with the fan in the handle? If so it is probably the same one as I had a few years back. I was quite underwhelmed by the airflow so I chopped the fan intake grills out as they are massively restricted, it made a notable difference👍🏻

Yes, they aren't that good for larger chips! This IC was really too much for it without underheating, or low melting point solder. For the larger chips with this station, I would just use low melting point solder I think.

You should patent the Flexibox™ Gadge :D A bit like "Fred "Thickie" Holden's tension sheet" - a Red Dwarf reference for those that don't know. Yo guys, please consider supporting GadgetUK via whatever mans you have available, be it simply watching the vid from beginning to end (that really helps), liking (or disliking, that also helps, despite being counter intuitive! - it's an interaction), subscribing or if you have the ability supporting via Patreon and Ko-Fi. He's a proper down to earth genuine guy, not some stupid influencer or anything, and his community is awesome.
