"be present don't anticipate" has been my mode of operation for the past few years. it started in college when i moved out early from a house i didn't realize i loved- and then the new house was worse in every way. i regretted the early move so much that i vowed to appreciate every good place and moment to its full extent before moving on. it's made me a homebody for sure, but also a loyal customer to my favorite spots, a better girlfriend and friend, and has liberated me from the pressure to always desire more (my mom would say i'm a bit too liberated, so proceed with caution). thanks, rachel, for this video and all that you do; you are an inspiration year after year.

I really related with you saying trauma is a sense. That’s something I’ve always felt but not known how to communicate, or I thought everyone had that issue till I realised they didn’t. It’s like smell, taste, touch, sight, hearing and…trauma. I’m practising reclaiming my inner voice and identifying which part is talking but it has been very difficult and sometimes lead to tricky situations. But again you said it’s okay because your child self kept your “spirit alive” by pushing down and distorting your voice so you could be okay now and have a chance to find it here (as I am at age 27), and I am so grateful to my younger self for getting me through the traumatic years in the only way she knew how. Even if I sometimes feel shame and anger towards her, it’s empathy that brings in love and understanding. So maybe you can be grateful somehow to yourself too? Xx
