THE TIDE HAS COME. Despite the copious amounts of newspapers that appear on the screen during Misery's runtime, there aren't many easter eggs hidden in the text, as we've come to expect in 100+ episodes of Things You Missed. But that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of other details to note.
The movie is filled with nods to Stephen King's 1987 novel, which is the basis for this adaptation, as well as Misery's Return, the novel within the novel written by lead character Paul Sheldon. I'll be pointing out the cover art to titles only mentioned in the book; interesting license plate text; connections to real-life Stephen King publications like Cujo, IT, and more; and moment inspired from movies by legendary directors like Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window and Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.
#Misery #StephenKing
About Misery
James Caan and Academy Award® winner* Kathy Bates star in the bone-shattering thriller Misery, adapted from the novel by Stephen King. As Paul (Caan) recuperates from his injuries in the secluded cabin of his benefactor Annie (Bates), he begins to discover that beneath the seemingly kind and naive exterior of his self-described "number one fan" lurks a mind that is cunning, unhinged, and bent on keeping her favorite writer as her personal prisoner for the rest of his "cock-a-doodie" life ... and Sheldon must engage his savior-turned-captor in a battle of wills that will push them both to the brink.
About Things You Missed
These videos point out some of the little details you may have missed in your favorite horror franchises as I analyse their meaning and why they are noteworthy. I'll breakdown every small detail, easter egg, reference, connection, motif, cameo, callback and homage that I can find! Typically, I'll cover Things You Missed in horror movies, and Things You Missed in horror film trailers.

Funny hearing young people talk about getting suspended nowadays lol. My dad got suspended for 10 days for having his hair too long. This was decades ago and his hair wasn't long but at the time for boys it couldn't touch your ears so it didn't have to be long to be considered too long. Stupid for schools to want kids to be individuals while also wanting them to all dress the same.

When King was first writing Misery it was a short story called The Annie Wilkes Edition. It ended with her using his flesh to bind the final book and feeding what was left to her pig.

Great look at the movie. Misery is one of my favorite thrillers and Stephen King adaptations. You touched on one thing that I've often wondered, and that was whether or not she spilled the glass of wine intentionally. I never noticed in the shot before that it would have been from her angle looking in through the keyhole. I would make sense too since she had the TV turned on and cranked up loud enough that she could have sneaked downstairs to look in on him with the TV covering any sounds.

One of the best films ever! I'm not the kind to watch a movie multiple times but that's one that I will. It is still as good today as it was when it came out which doesn't happen often. No CGI or anything like that to distract from the movie. I hope nobody ever decides to remake that. No possible way they could do it better than its already been done.

That last point in the movie has always gotten me the most. I never saw the movie until I was an adult, with CPTSD. I have been in his spot, where it takes time to get your brain to see what is really there. For me, this is the "scariest" part of the movie. I can honestly relate to the hallucinations, it hits people on a real note. Love the video, as always!

I haven't checked your channel in a while and I'm glad cause I can enjoy my lunch with good entertainment. What I love the most in your videos is that you don't go superficial about the "things you missed", unlike many spam channels who just collect what other people have found and the obvious ones just to reach a minute count quote. You on the other hand have a reason to include each item on the list, input your own thoughts, specially if there's no certainty of why the item was placed in the movie. And as an audience we can tell you have watched multiple times the movie and maybe even read the novels, also, that you love horror. That makes these videos so much more than just background noise. I purposely like to watch them with popcorn or snacks cause it's just as entertaining as the movies themselves, so they help with the ambience.

"Misery" and "The Graduate" are both connected. "The Graduate" was produced by Embassy Pictures who would later give Rob Reiner his directorial debut with "This is Spinal Tap." Then Embassy would be divided into three parts, Nelson Entertainment the company that backed and financed "Misery" held the rights to Embassy's video library as it had acquired the company in 1986 and launched its own label on the ashes. Both the Embassy video library and the Castle Rock Entertainment library up until 1994 were casualties of the Crédit Lyonnais Bank Hollywood scandal. To make a long story short both libraries ended up being distributed by MGM beginning in January 1999.

Yesterday was my birthday, and I got a typewriter. But after watching Misery, I’m not sure I want it. Lol.

Any chance you will ever cover Christine? The book is Amazing as is the movie. I'm sure there is a ton to learn about Roland LeBay and Arnie.
