I think the premise is the coolest since the first. The idea of forcing selfish people to not act selfishly to win is great. Just the traps suck, even if you are a selfish dickwad you should be able to recognise that you can get the keys for the others. Or recognise that you can fit more than two people in the safe space.. The only difficult trap was the bathroom trap.

11:58 The reason why Hoffman wasn't mentioned in the first SAW movie was because this character didn't existed in the SAW-franchise until SAW 3. The same is the case with John's ex-wife Jill and their common unborn son Gideon. Both did not exist in the SAW universe until SAW 4.

5:46 Hoffman was established as a popular cop in the department and a lot of them thought he was a good trustworthy guy. The fact they thought the same about Matthews shows there was corruption abound in there. I think the only honest ones were Tapp and Sing and Tapp ended up going mad after Jigsaw killed Sing with a shotgun trap.

Its funny that you say that Hoffman couldn't have renovated the nerve gas house but actually it is the same house. Hoffman actually got rid of the bodies in the house at the end of Saw 2 and renovated the entire house. The underground tunnels which lead to the bathroom from the original Saw movie is there too. So you weren't wrong. I actually read about this years ago and came across it again. The saw series is definitely interesting and i would love to see a what if series on your channel. Like what if Strahm got in the glass coffin? What if Hoffman escaped the bathroom at the end of Saw 7 or What if Adam found the key to his chain instead of it being sucked down the drain?

The end of Saw V definitely is the same house as Saw II that leads to the i famous Bathroom. It seems Hoffman cleaned up the nerve gas house and then fixed it up to live in it. We even see the corridor that leads to the bathroom with a trail of blood leading away from it likely blood from Gordon and/or Mathews.

You refer to the procedure strahm performs on himself in the drowning trap as a trachiectomy, a procedure that from what I can find does not exist, and the name implies you would be removing the tube you use for breathing from the neck completely, which would most likely be fatal. What strahm actually performs is a tracheotomy, a procedure in which one bypasses the oral and nasal passages used for breathing by inserting some form of tube into the trachea to allow air in.

Oh wow, the point about Seth being in the drug clinic is something I completely missed- it's entirely possible John was already planning on putting Seth in a trap, but Hoffman beat him to it, and that's how John found out about Hoffman. He may have even been watching him when he killed Seth, and that's how he knew Seth's game was unwinnable, which the police never seemed to notice- because he was watching too and he saw how the hand presses did nothing.

When you mentioned Jill's clinic something clicked for me. John thinks he's high and mighty, educating people on their wrongdoing. But so many trap victims are from that clinic. And while you can't really call people like Gordon "poor", "defenseless" or "most vulnerable", it's clear a substantial part of John's life was taking advantage of people more vulnerable than he, which makes the commentary in Saw VI with the health insurance subplot and commentary even juicier.
