Thanks for the videos. I've got a 2" lift with Rubicon springs and shocks on my 2018 JKU and wondered how it would look with 33's. I feel the stock 32" BFG M'T height looks good but would like a little more width to fill out the fenders. I love the Rubicon wheels and no spacers ever on my Jeeps. I would go with AEV wheels to get the correct backspacing for bigger tires.
@cumminsperformancs4 жыл бұрын
285/70's would obviously work like I have.. or since you have a small lift you could go with 285/75's... But cost difference is huge for such small difference in size & they would definitely rub more when turning without getting different wheels/spacers... Unless biting the bullet and going all the way to a 35" I feel the 33" (285/70) is where it's at.

It had the standard black rails like they all come with, but they were removed before I got it, and I kinda like appearance without them.. They hold dirt/salt and end up causing rust. Also first thing that needs ends trimmed off when running bigger tires.

I was going to run the same size tires as you (285/70/17) on my 2012 jku sport, do you get the sway bar rub on just general steering? Or is it only under specific circumstances?
@cumminsperformancs4 жыл бұрын
It only rubs a tiny bit at full lock of the wheel, (when you turn as sharp as possible and touch steering stops) not bad at all, and you could shim steering stops a little to eliminate rub. I'd say go for them! 285/70/17 is best size for jeeps!
@waltersteffensthezr2man431 Жыл бұрын
I know this video's old but I would never go with a 1-in spacer 1.5 minimum otherwise you have to use crappy little half lug nuts what I ended up doing was putting a 5/16 washer behind the steering stop on both sides and that solved the problem. Quick easy fix

Hi, a lift/ leveling kit doesn't help for clearance when turning. Unless you get different wheels or run spacers you probably wanna stick to 285-70-17. For a little taller tire(34") 285-75-17 would probably look the nicest with the leveling kit, but without spacers or different wheels rubbing will probably be a problem. Same with 33x12.50x17, they would look nice but you need more backspacing.

Thats actually the size I wanted to get originally, since its almost a 34" tire.. But it Definitely won't fit well & will have major rub on swaybar, without spacers, and with spacers it will move tire out which will hit fenders if you off road any.. So you Would need to trim them or get flat fenders.

There's only 7/10 of an inch difference in overall diameter between the 255/75/17 (32.1" diameter) tire that came on that Jeep and the 285/70/17 (32.8" diameter) tire that you put on the Jeep. Only half off that difference is to be considered in terms of clearance. That means there's only 3.5/10 of an inch (just over a 1/3") difference from the stock tire and the new tire in terms of clearance. When folks add the aprox. 4.50-4.75 negative offset from the typical aftermarket wheel's backspacing then it is aprox. the same result as using a 1.5" wheel spacer - and this never rubs the fender. Both a 1" and a 1.5" wheel spacer would work perfectly fine with this setup.
@cumminsperformancs3 жыл бұрын
Not exactly... If you watch my other video, with flex test, you will clearly see that 1.5" spacers would definitely NOT work for off-roading! Very doubtful that even 1" would. Like you said, Tire diameter is only slightly bigger & not the problem, the extra 1.2" in width is what makes the difference.
@brianmurphy53133 жыл бұрын
@@cumminsperformancs that problem of hitting fender when articulating is solved by a lift. The spacing, whether 1" or 1.5", won't stop it from hitting above if/when you articulate enough. The combo of wider tire, loss of that aprox 1/3" clearance height and the lesser offset of a spacer all together will cause you to hit above if you're really going at it, for sure. I meant that for daily driving either the 1" or 1.5" spacer works well with that setup. Really, a 1.5" spacer ends up with tire sticking out about as far as your typical aftermarket wheel would have it.
@cumminsperformancs3 жыл бұрын
@@brianmurphy5313 I understand, but you are Totally missing the point! This is NOT a lift, wheel, or spacer video. Its a video showing the biggest tires you can run on a completely STOCK setup.
@teo29753 жыл бұрын
Brian the problem isnt just the 3/4 larger diameter, is that with a 1.5" spacer you are going outward putting tire under the fender's lip meaning you have way less clearance. If you look at jeep forums plenty of people who put 1.5" wheel spacer on stock 255/75r17 get bad fender rub on moderate trails before even putting the 285s on! And also this is not about wheel with 1.5 less backspace or quality wheel spacer -- they have identical effect but about the fact the further out you go the more you will contact the fender. the issue with 285 off road is the WIDTH, which is not just 1.7"wider, but 3" further out since you need to spacer or backspace added to the increased width and it all gos out under the fender
