Regarding point 34, the reason a normal torque converter will hold the car on an incline is not because of the Park pin, that's only used when the selector is in Park. In Drive, there is always enough movement of the fluid in the coupling to provide the forward momentum at idle speed. The eCVT in your hybrid doesn't have that, hence why it won't hold when in Drive. DCT transmissions are the same

It's a nice feature that I have only seen on Toyota/Lexus so far, but not on any German car. The reason why the auto function turns of when you activate the air-purifier is because as far as I know it will use the cabin air and "recycle" it through the filter to give you the cleanest air possible😉

I love my Lexus LS 600hl. You have to be an acrobat and Houdini to get to it, actually a five year old might find it easier to do but not an adult. (2) The cruise control switch lever which rotates with the steering wheel, when I parked up recently - because I had left the steering wheel on a slight right turn lock which meant the cruise lever switch was pointing down. When getting back into the car a sliding into the seat, my leg an knee caught the switch and snapped it off leaving it hanging from it wires. So annoying, so that going to cost to fix it.

My LS460L has auto headlight option in the stalk maybe its a Euro thing, replacing it with a USA stalk give auto lights but it removes the rear fog light switch . The Auto sensitivity for the AC is based on the sensor in the front, replace it or clean it to get better sensitivity . In regards to the ACC your car has LKA and pre-crash system , in addition to the front radar there is a stereo video camera on the top of the windshield and it stops working at high speed wiper and extreme hot and cold weather by design . So to minimize random shutoff clean the top of the front windshield and the Lexus logo at the front .The brake sound is the brake actuator for sure, make sure to replace it with latest part number. If you hold down the auto recirculate button, you can increase the sensitivity of the air quality sensor, the default setting is too insensitive I think. Also the main reason for using auto recirculate is that it will turn on recirculate when you get in the car to speed up climate control then automatically switch back to outside air when it reaches a steady state.

Noise from brake actuator is common thing on LS460/600h, as on RX460h. Heating problem caused by low coolant level. You need to fill up heater core that seats higher than radiator and usually is half-empty. And you have to fill exactly the core , through pipe that heads it. Steering wheel leather is worn quicker on cars with heated wheel. That is just it's quirk.

I have a 2008 LS600HL. I agree about the wheels paint job. I live in New York, although I bought the car used and it came from Florida. After only 2 winters I see the paint flaking off the wheel, especially near the center cap. I agree about the trunk not closing by remote or button. It certainly has the capability to close on its own, I don't know why they didn't add that feature. My trunk never gets stuck half way while closing. There must be something wrong with yours. I agree about the obstructed buttons but the other buttons on the steering wheel are not useless. In fact I use all of the buttons pretty frequently. What do you mean your car doesn't have automatic headlights? That's a standard feature for that model, at least it is here in the US. That's really strange that your car doesn't have that included feature. My glovebox is perfectly fine. My pet peeve about the glovebox is the light that is inside the glovebox. It's so dim, it's practically useless. I have the executive seating package so my cooler is in the center armrest and is much bigger than yours. Of course, because my car has that option, I have many more features in the back seat that your car doesn't have and all of those features actually work quite well. The cupholders were designed for cups. The kind you get from fast food or Starbucks. Then again, plastic bottles here in the US tend to be wider than the ones in your video but I have seen some bottles flop around in the cupholders. What did you install in the radio? It sounds like you said a Ground V line? What's that? The radio does lock out some functions when your driving because that's a standard safety feature of most cars and by law, at least here in the US, some functions have to be disabled when the car is moving. I am told that there is a way of getting into the radio menu using a code that will allow you to override that function. I was able to transfer my contacts but you have to use a third party app to get that done. My fuel gauge is pretty accurate after fueling but mine is set to gallons not liters because I am in the US. I don't know if that's why mine is more accurate. You misunderstand what the function of the recirculate air function is for. It's not for bad smells, as much as it allows passive outside air to mix with the inside air to aid in defogging the inside glass. You're right that the car doesn't do a good enough job filtering out bad smells from outside. Since they changed the laws here in the US about marijuana, everybody seems to be smoking in their car and that smell is disgusting. I can't seem to filter it out with the climate system. For some reason, my screen looks a little better than yours. My map especially looks better than yours, maybe it is more updated. You're right about heated and cooled seat function light. It's in the wrong place. Speaking of that function, it's kind of noisy and the cooling function doesn't seem to do anything on hot days. I don't have the issues you do with the breaks, mine works well. I don't have any of the issues you're having with ACC. My cooler doesn't make any noise. I think it's a different system with the executive package. I have the same issue with the climate system. Regardless of the temperature setting, cool air come out of the vents unless you set it very hot. It's very annoying. It is probably related to coolant level, I will check that. I don't have the issue with the break noise. Don't all cars roll back a little when you're on a steep grade in an automatic? That's what the hold feature is for.

I’m looking to currently buy this model but I’m finding it difficult to locate them here in Dallas TX. Do you have any recommendations and what to look for? What year did they stop making this car? What is the best spec?? I agree about the dashboard tech, it’s looking very dated…with that plastic trim around the TV 📺 I also hear the control arms and bushings are a big problem $$?? I test drove the LS500 last month, apart from the new dashboard I was not impressed with the acceleration or engine sound (am I missing something?? 🤷♂️🤔) I much prefer the V8! 😀
@swisscarguy2 жыл бұрын
Lexus stopped making this model in 2017. 2013 saw a major facelift where they changed both the exterior and the interior. Spec is a bit difficult since LS600h tend to be very loaded. The only optional things I would look for ist the leather covered dash (nice). Whether you want a 4-seater with the ottoman in the rear or a more practical bench in the rear is down to preference. I'm happy to have the bench or trips to IKEA and the home improvement store would be impossible. The facelifted cars have much prettier (and hopefully better quality) wheels and the interiors look more modern. But I like the old man interior of the older cars (yes, even the plastic bezel) and I do not like that the new cars don't have a touch screen infotainment anymore. The graphics are nicer, but usability is worse in my book. Control arms (and bushings) will come on all of these heavy cars at some point in time. On the LS600h it's an expensive job because the lower front control arms are only available from Toyota ($$$) as they are specific to the 4WD and not the same as on the regular RWD LS460. On my car, the job was $5k since labour is very expensive in Switzerland and everything was pretty much seized solid, so it took the garage forever to do it. If you can work on your car yourself and replace the bushings, you can do it *much* more cheaply. Personally, I did not want to replace just the bushings and leave the old ball joints in place, so I bought all the front control arms (the upper ones were after-market though, by Febest). Having to pay a mechanic to replace the bushings in the existing control arms would have costed almost the same as just buying the damned things. An LS600h will most likely accelerate slower than an LS500h. So, that might not be an improvement. V8 is sure nice having. Anyway, if you are considering an LS500h, keep in mind that the 2 cars are fairly different. The 600 is a more old-school Lexus and being an older car is in a different league in regards to purchase price. The older car will be much cheaper but things will come up at some point (i.e. control arms). Whereas the newer car should be completely bullet-proof for years to come. I like the new LS, it's beautiful and I love the interior. But for me personally, buying/leasing a car this new and expensive would not be financially feasible as I cannot afford the depreciation. In any case: test drive all the cars you are interested in. I love the LS600h but you might actually hate driving it.

Funnily enough some of the complains you have, are typical of a car made for American market and of an American car. *The headlights fox example, most American cars of that era and older do not have DRLs. You want lights, you have to turn them on. Sometimes I forget to turn mine on. *The side mirror tilt when reversing. Also present on my Lincoln Mark VIII from 1997. Mine do tilt far enough to see the curb, but I keep it switched off because with 60 section high sidewall, I don't really care where the curb is. *The seating position (21). Now that is a surprise. I have test driven the LS430 and it felt like it had ample room front and rear (I'm 1.92, 140-ish kg) and I could even sit behind myself. Or maybe, the seating position is really down to personal preference. My Mark VIII, it feels like I am sitting in a bath tub, the beltline feels to low, the seat feels really close to the floor of the car and to the ground. Then again, with independent suspension front and rear and the low center of gravity, it is a bathtub with excellent driving characteristics (like a big go-cart with too long a wheelbase).

it looks like there is a lot of myths about this car, especially that was tested very deeply. It has got very basic fails in ergonomy, and some cheap Toyotas quality and design...
