I love my 2008 Lexus LS 600h, but why?
In this video I list various reasons why I love my Lexus, the things I don't like so much and how much it cost me to own the car for 1.5 years. The cost of ownership part starts at 23:22.
While it might be true that a hybrid Lexus LS is more reliable than a comparable German sedan like a Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7-Series, Audi A8 or - dare I say it - a VW Phaeton, the car is not necessarily cheap to own.
It might sound strange, but the Lexus LS is genuinely exotic here in Switzerland. They are less common than many cars that are actually supposed to be exotic.
Also, this video took way longer to make than I originally intended. My slow descent into madness is painfully apparent in some parts of this video.

That Mark Levinson system in my LS is one of the best systems I've ever heard in a vehicle. I hear more of the music in depth driving my Lexus than listening in a pair of high end headphones.

Not supposed to flush the transmission on the Lexus LS. Hopefully the shop knew this and only changed the fluid.

Toyota4Life this is a very well crafted car but it’s no bargain for sure. I have a 2013 LS460L and it’s stupid for Toyota to charge the extra $30k over the regular LS460. I’m glad they fix the suspension and control arm issue on the 08-11 LS. It would be a huge money pit to fix the LS control arm issue.

Agreed it seems that these lexus ls are much more adept with mild/cold weather climates.. With less things breaking down... In comparison in humid hot climates, much more wear and tear items break down more frequently... But it is still much more reliable than the equivalent German or British luxury cars

My reply is late, apologies. I don’t really check. Anyway, the hybrid battery is original & still holding its charge (the battery capacity isn’t great). Recent repairs; ‘bearing hub’ rear right , which cost me Aus$800 with labour. I’ve not had anything replaced which is not related to wear & tear.

I own a 2012 LS460 RWD with 117,000km and did the control arm and ball joints all for under $900 US (Did the job myself at a friends shop) and that has been my only repair. I did the job as preventive maintenance and expect to get many years of trouble free driving. I can honestly say I am happy that I chose the LS over an S class, 7 series or A8 and believe over its lifetime will be many thousands less to operate.

Bruh I drive an X5 and an earlier 7 series. X5 door soft touch close failed on one door, electronic park brake failed, hvac failed, things are starting to fail, only with 70k miles. 7 series is faring better. But both have the awful BMW v8’s and dealer has detected an oil leak in the 7’s engine 😂
@d1sturb3d119
@d1sturb3d119 4 жыл бұрын
@@rajkirannatarajan9276 Saddest part is that these aren't issues caused by engineers. Rather issues caused by telling engineers they don't have the time needed to test and solve these issues. It's all about selling features. This is all a business problem. Some dumbass in the company believes selling junk is what keeps them ahead so they sell junk in general and folks end up leasing these cars. That's the business model these days. I mean look at the BMW M3 CS. 98k sticker for an M3... No one buys that, they just lease, wait till lease is up and get rid of the car, while the dealership then tries to make money on the residual value. Over the few years that the car is on the road, the dealership still makes its money from leases, repairs and finally sells these cars to some shady dealership or it gets sent off as a used consignment.

one of the fastest subscribes i've done, not even halfway through the video, i'm sold :D i really resonate with your passion and "i like the idea of driving a car that's as good as (the brand can make)" and you mention having a Phateon W12 for the same reasons x) also the feeling of driving something very very rare around you. and you defend older cars because newer ones aren't always automatically better in every way, that shows you know what makes a great car. then you show how you got a custom android on your 2008 LS , it's been one of my biggest turn offs in recent years to see so much locked-down technology in new cars. but amazingly you managed to get an old car with a big touchscreen and connect that to your own operating system ! this is as good as it gets :D even nicer than just adding another screen on top

Reliability is excellent - watch the radiator for top weeping and only replace with a Toyota Denso OEM when it goes. I have done the front end suspension rebuild twice and 2 x air suspension struts. Fuel consumption is 10.5L/100km which isn’t too bad. I love driving it. Enjoy your 600!

Hi Mario, Nice video; I just subscribed. I have a 2007 LS 460L and have had to do some of these repairs, I have a local independent mechanic who works on all our vehicles and together we figure out what to do, he has had no problem taking anything apart, as in replacing suspension arms, and I have had spark plugs and all fluids replaced, we have had the car for about five years, now it has about 88K miles total on it. My repair costs were about $4k the first year with everything, ( fluid changes, plugs, front suspension arms etc...) each future year being about $ 300.00 so I am happy about that.

I need a driver so I can enjoy the backseat. Haha. A bit of a chore with the navigation but I'm adapting. Well when I'm near the car is anyway. Work overseas and haven't driven it since Sept 2019. I had much more things to change, such as front brake pads, all spark plugs and plug seals, high pressure fuel pump gaskets, water pump and gaskets, auto trans oil seal and engine crank shaft seals, atf filter , gaskets, wire hareness connectors change and complete fluid transfusions, total cost about rm7100, which is about usd 1.69k...but I still need to sort out control arm bushes etc.. Nonetheless it is still a wonderful car and I do intend to keep it long term..

Loving a car whatever it is is a true mark of a car enthusiast. I nearly bought a GS450h but stopped short when I realised the boot is not very practical without fold down seats. Not everybody needs to want sporty handling, fast acceleration which is by far the most common 'requirement' of majority of 'car guys'. Reliability, comfort, ride, ergonomics, practicality etc all play a part to make a package.

I like your vlog. Thanks for sharing the in-depth cost of ownership review. I currently own an almost new (2017) S-class and a 1990 W126 S-class 560SEL. I have owned a Lexus LX570 too. If I compare the cost of owning a German car to a Lexus, the Lexus would always be a winner. I personally feel the German brands these days are designed to last a certain (less) amount of time. The Lexus on the other hand is designed and engineered for extreme comfort and reliability first and performance second. The only item that generally needs replacing is suspension parts which isn’t that bad considering you can get 100,000 plus km out of some of the components. Once you spend this sort of money, you won’t need to change bits every 50k kilometres. The Lexus brand is remarkably. I am considering buying a LS600HL soon.

To be fair, the suspension on the LS and GS and RX cars are ALL under engineered in that they do seem to need attention early in life. My 2007 GS300 needed new dampers before 60K miles and my heavier RX450h has had 3 of the 4 control arms and bushes replaced sub 40K miles. For some odd reason they have under estimated wear on these parts but they are heavy vehicles. Lexus do though cover the costs under warranty for all cars up to 10 years old.

I would imagine they would also be more affordable to maintain as our mechanics cost somewhere around the 60CHF/hour!

I own a 2008 LS460 gorgeous burgundy metallic with the chrome rims. Same body style and interior as the 600h, I LOVE IT these cars are just phenomenal. YES omg the touch screen system in the older cars is far far superior to the newer system, I actually love the way it works.

I absolutely love my 2013 LS460 it’s at the very beginning of the new spindle grille so it’s got presence but it’s not over the top it’s still classy and the interior is absolutely one of my favorite parts about the car the older LS460 has a good interior but it’s missing some of the design pizzazz that the 2013+ LS lineup has.. one thing that you did note was the remote touch interface, its not that bad I’ve used it for a little over a year now and even when I first bought my car it was simple and easy to use like a computer mouse.. the reason behind it was to get a higher quality screen and to place it where it wouldn’t be flushed out in the sunlight but in order to do such back then they had to cover it substantially which made it difficult to reach for most so they went with the mouse system… no matter what year of LS you get it’s gonna be great unless you buy a 460 from the year range where the control arms were an issue but other than that you have a solid car

Hi Mario. LS600hl 2007 owner from Geneva. Good review. I'm very interested in the Japanese supplier you mentioned as I'm seriously thinking of replacing the front control arms on mine. It's got only 85k km but previous owner was in a snowy canton that uses a lot of salt so there's a premature wear. This is my second 600h, the first one was short wheel base from 2008 just like yours. Sold it, had some fun with some German rides and came back to the long wheel base LS with executive seating pack a year ago. Cheers

Its funny how most people assume that LS owners got them for reliability. The ls430 is even more reliable TBH, and some sell for more than the 460. This car is true comfort & luxury and its interior & materials are top notch.

In answer to question about what cars I Love or have Loved, I would say, the Saabs I owned, 3 of them (2 x (9-3 and 1 x 9-5). Wonderful Drivers' cars with relatively generous Power and great road feel. I am considering a Lexus (V-8) as my next car, so your experiences with the LS600h are of great interest. Thanks for your interesting programmes.

Just leave your headlights in the on position. The headlights turn off when you push the key fob lock switch twice or they turn off after a certain amount of time. At least in the USDM LS thats how it works.

Yeah , I'm baffled why he says it doesn't have headlights auto on , my 2007 IS250 has it , so I really doubt LS600h wouldn't. Just leave the headlights on and it should turn on and off itself. If not , then something must be broken.

I like the look of the front and rear spoiler. Personally I'd drive the 20's until they go bad and get decent 19 or possibly 18's with good tires. I've been mulling over the LS line. I love my Toyota's and should get a more luxurious ride.

On tinted windows, I can't speak to the climate in Switzerland but if your in the American South tinted windows are enjoyable and for some a requirement. Having the front windows tinted helps so much in the summer. The car's interior is cooler when left in the sun and is cooler if just out driving on a hot day. When driving and the sun is up it doesn't get in your eye (from the side). It allows the peasant blockers to be more effective at blocking light/people from shining/seeing in. Another thing we enjoy about tinted windows is that it makes it harder for would be thieves from checking on any valuables that may be left in the open. It reduces damage in the interior that comes from the sun's UV days. And if your glass becomes shattered for any reason the film keeps the glass from going everywhere. It will keep the glad together. And if you want to remove the film, the glue will come off with isopropyl alcohol. If the film is the same that's used in the US.

Very nice car. My brother has one and he loves it. It has power , comfort, lot and lots of extras. And, you don't see many around, next time your out and about keep an eye out, won't see many at all, if you see one at all. Love it. Parts though, not good, hard to find.

I have a similar aged GS that I bought brand new and I love it. Still going strong even though the kids keep telling me I need a new car. I do have it dealer serviced every year and have never had anything go wrong with it. I am starting to think that there is something wrong with the car as it has never had issues with it being over 10 years old.

I rebuild cars from copart with my friend who owns a salvage car parts/car sales business. I purchased a 2008 Lexus LS 460 that had very light front end damage. Immediately after driving it, I knew I was probably going to keep it for myself. Over a year later, and it is still hands down the best daily driver I have ever owned.
