71 Demon 340.Sassy Grass green... Patrick Dodge Saskatoon. With slight modifications and soft tires it was running in the 12's. Great car, Shoulda coulda woulda... Light inexpensive fast car in 1971. That 340 was a big block killer.

Back in the 80's as an active duty Marine I had a 1973 Dodge Dart 340 it was metallic green with a green interior and a green vinyl top. It had the fold down rear seat that opens into the trunk, I loved that car! wish I'd never sold her! It also had the Thermoquad 4 barrel!

Two memories for me. I remember my uncle buying a new 73 Duster in dust colored paint lol, it had the infamous 70s brown interior that looked like, well you know. His was bare bones slant six, 3 on the tree am, and a heater. I liked it and questioned my Dad as to why we never had a cool car like an AMC or Mopar(I was 6 and just learned that term) he said rather curtly that they had no trade in value. This keeping in mind he was driving a 70 Mercury Monterey with a 429 black on black and would soon Trade for a pea green Tbird with a 460 loaded up and an olive green vinyl top with green cloth interior. lol. I think it hurt his feelings. I went on to be a Ford truck guy until I had my first Jeep then I was AMC / Mopar! 😉. The second memory was a rainy day in Decatur, Il when my high school buddy and I went to pick up and drive home a car for his little brother who was soon to be 16. We weren’t much older than that, but were tasked with looking it over for his Mom. It was a 72 Duster and it if it hadn’t had the half vinyl too id’ve sworn it was my uncles! lol. It looked worse than it was, we picked it up in an alley where it had set for quite some time and was filthy in and out. This was circa 1985. The seats were ripped, it was rusty in spots, ugly wheels and ran like hot garbage , but it ran. It was used and used up had been treated badly. She offered $150 and the guy took it. My buddy and I looked at each other and rolled our eyes. We had about 10 miles to home on a state hwy in a steady drizzle. The electrics were shot and nothing worked right. The best part of the whole thing was when my buddy went to reach for the wiper switch to turn it on after a few blocks and there right in the middle of 5 points intersection he yelped like a little girl as sparks shot from the switch to his fingers in the grey evening twilight ! I laughed so hard I about fell out of the car(I had to hold the door shut) 😂😅they wipers went about halfway up right in to his field of vision and stopped, the windows all started fogging up but he wouldn’t touch anything but the steering wheel the rest of the way. We drove home about 20-25 mph with his Mom following closely in a 78 Newport with her flashers on. Needless to say his bro hated it and I think even cried. My buddy donated his wrecked 72 Charger to the cause and their oldest sibling owned a body shop. It ended up a sweet v8 ride with a nice metallic brown paint job and cool painted graphics, rolling in aluminum blades and white letters. He wasn’t crying then. 😎

In 1998 when I was 16 i had a Chocolate Brown 1979 Duster with 225 slant six offenhauser 4brl intake and thermoquad carb. My Dad talked about building a 340 like that was in the Older Dusters but we never did. Me and my uncle dropped a 440 into a 73 Charger SE and when we pulled it outta the garage the tow strap came loose and instead of steering the car over into the level. I freaked out when the brakes didn't work and ended up steering it over into a ditch and down over a mountain backwards 😂. Bouncing off 4or5 trees in the process. Scared me to death Nick! 😂 I just knew my uncle was gonna slap me around but he never raised his voice to me. Rust free Black 73 Charger with Gold ralleye's just ruined.

Memories, in 1980 when I was 17 I bought a 'Blue 70 Swinger 340 4 speed factory original car still plated and on the road for $700 CD. The add was in the old Buy and Sell paper and was located in Willowdale ,On, I went to see it , the guy took one look at me and says "I'm not letting you drive it but I'll take you for a drive in it".. I says yessir let's go, the second that 340 fired up I knew I was buying it. It The car had 100,000 miles on it ,needed front fenders and some other odds and ends but man the fun I had with that car is legendary ( in my own mind of course). Eventually overhauled the bottom end and heads along with a Purple shaft to help her breath a bit better and she was a thumper, surprised many guys who underestimated the old Dodge ( and my powershifting abilities) much to their chagrin, lol. Cheers Nick! Love the show.

In 1976 I bought my first car a 1968 GTS 340 convertible. And for $850 it had about 98,000 Mi on it and used a quart of oil for every tank of gas . It did have a set of shiny Cragar wheels and some headers. Pretty good for a guy in high school for his last year. Later on I replaced the 340 engine with a lower mileage 440 and transmission from a 68 New Yorker. I really didn't know what I was doing at the time but I knew that a GTS did have a big block in it and it could be done. The car was definitely faster and actually got one more mile per gallon generally. I am 65 years old now

A month shy of 17 years old, dad signed for a loan on my first financed car, a '70 340 4 speed Dart, 3.91 Sure Grip like this car, factory Hemi Orange, black bumble bee stripe, 44,000 miles. We didn't negotiate on the dealer's $1,678 price. It was a s8x year old car then. Dad had sent me to that dealer because he knew and liked the salesman he told me to ask for. When I did and told him who my dad was, he said "Oh, you're Larry's kid!", and tossed me the keys. You're not coming with me? "Nah, I know your dad. Take it out and see what you think." The car was stock, down to the dog dish caps and E78-14 tires. Holy cow, it would spin the tires hard in third gear! Two hours later I brought it back; it was almost out of gas. The salesman was kind of pissed, but he saw how I couldn't keep a straight face, couldn't shut up about how fast it was. Mom and i went back a few days later in the family '68 New Yorker two door, with wheels, dad had to have a two door with wheels as the family grocery getter, and I drove the Dart home. When I left the dealer, mom and the finance guy were still chatting outside. I left, powershifted second, tires spinning, put down a couple car lengths of rubber. Dad was forced to give me a stern talking to after mom's report. Seemed to be a little glint in his eye as he was chewing me. 😊
