Jocko, I am a cop in your home town of San Diego. I cannot tell you enough how I’ll-suited most cops are from the detac training we receive in the academy, without proper follow up training throughout your career. If you ever wanted to make a huge change in your home town, speak with the leadership in the San Diego police academy. You could be saving lives and careers. God bless!

For anyone young watching this. I got rejected from wrestling in first year high school and basketball. I was a scrawny little kid and really pissed me off. Became an engineer for fortune 500 company and worked my butt off and did super well and trained in martial arts with several broken bones and torn ligaments, not a soldier but the pain is worth it. I was often beaten by work stuff but I got myself up and got back in the battle to make a project successful. You can do this.

Tim Kennedy isn't my favorite person in the world but damn do I know a little more about his story now. Jesus dude, you're built different. I've had guilt over the stupidest things I've said or did in the past that aren't on the same planet as what you've been through. YET you carry yourself so much better. Thank you for sharing all this and all your flaws, that's accountability. Btw, I hate war too. I'm glad I couldn't join when I tried. I would've been a little savage. I was always down for the cause with my boys. Fight clubs, skate parks, beer runs. Anything to have a good time. Too bad for me I got into some trouble and got put on a 5 year probation. I don't think I would have been cut out for war. Or maybe I would've learned better how to deal with shit, I don't know. Sincerely 32 y/o fat American

Glad to hear never give up. I have struggled with myself since the army. Today I'm struggling to have strength to continue. Working 6 days a week trying to hold my family together. The best thing I have is God and Jesus. Christ on my side. I couldn't be here without God and my family. I shouldn't be alive I shouldn't be here. No matter the struggle the pain the hurt we need to drive on and be strong for ourselves and for those who need us and count on us everyday. Stay strong and hit me up if you ever need anything. Sometimes just talking and getting that pain out can help. Just please never give up on yourself.i was replying to someone inthe comments who is going through some stuff so imgonna post it for everyoneto see.

I'm a Marine combat vet who was just a wrecker operator in Iraq in 03 who did nothing special nor would I ever claim to be a "somebody". I was born in 80 and in the south so the first 30 minutes really pulled me in and made me wish I could have met these amazing men then. I will say that this podcast has really made me reevaluate myself as a father of two young boy's and a daughter. I definitely need to step up my game and stop being complacent with just making good money and be more involved with my family and children. Thank you Tim and Jocko for being such amazing men but are far from perfect like myself.

What a podcast, I would never imagine myslef watching a podcast that lasts for 5 hours, 49 minutes and 30 seconds. Not only I watched every second and some parts for a few times, but also every second was loaded with action, lessons, intensity, humbleness, drama and pure humanity. What a motivating peace of art. Thanks for Jocko and Tim for such a masterpiece that can easily be made as a movie, especially the last evac mission. After 30 years of martial arts, I started recently JiuJitsu, tore my bicep tendon and had a short break. Guess what, watching the first 10 minutes of this piece, I felt ashamed to stay put, had to carry my bag and go for another two back to back sessions, Karate. and Jiu jitsu, may be I had some more adrenaline to have a short cardio session. Thanks for the motivation folks. Keep Punchin.

A quick thing Tim mentioned here that I've talked about with family and friends, is about the people who say they want a revolution in the U.S. I've read so many comments on KZbin videos over the years from people saying they want a revolution or second civil war where we're divided by political left and right and winner takes all. As a Marine Infantry combat vet I must say a vast majority of these people have no idea what they're asking for. No one should wish for war. The effects of combat never leave those who actively participate or are directly affected by it.

I can confirm. I’ve worked in two states as a Law Enforcement Officer. I have worked in the tidewater area of Virginia and the pan handle of Florida. During the academy in Florida, they taught more BJJ related defensive tactics. Getting choking unconscious, was a requirement for us to pass DT in Florida. It was also a taught tactic. In Virginia, after George Floyd, they outlawed RNC and have categorized it as lethal force. Using it without justifiable lethal force, is considered excessive force and is a felony. Virginia also outlawed us putting our knees on peoples backs while handcuffing prone suspects. Knee across the shoulder blades is a perfectly safe behavior. Its when used excessively that it can cause damage, just like every tool provided to Law Enforcement officers. Policing, has turned into a joke. Promotions are based on politics, criminals are protected, DAs let criminals off to victimize innocent people daily. I’ve always wanted to be a cop growing up and now I’m trying to get out. 5 years of experience which I can’t use anywhere else.

Thank you for sharing that opening excerpt. It put into perspective different experiences that happen in war. I remember being scared to open my eyes after the initial fog/ of hitting an IED because I was afraid I was missing pieces. Sometimes I still cry about that feeling . On the other hand our driver cracked a joke (one of the funniest situational jokes in my life) immediately after we shook the cobwebs .

I got to know jocko from Tim and Jocko podcast from 2016 which was the year after I graduated High school. 2012, I came as an immigrant and worked so hard that I would pray to God every to just let me die. I was mentally defeated, exhausted and lost. After founding out jocko I slowly began to turn my life around, I learned to love and appreciate the freedom I enjoy in this greatest country. It took few years to practice Extreme ownership but slowly and surely my life changed and people around me recognized that change. I joined the US. Army and went to Community college. Then I transferred over to a State university, received my US citizenship through the Army and did everything I can to do make the most out of all things I did . I competed in the Best warrior competition at the highest level possible I got accepted to Dental school with 5% acceptance in my first time. I call jocko my 2nd Jesus because I was born again after I found Jocko. Jocko may never know how much I thank and appreciate all he has done for me but I just want to say ; Jocko Thank you so much.

Had the same thought when I read it. A good officer would have seen the potential there and talked him right out of the PD. I have always rather had a rookie I have to have on a leash on vs one I have to push through the door.

It's taken me a couple weeks of listening when I could, rewinding when I missed something and just staying focused on everything these guys said... I'm now at the last 19 mins of the podcast... DAMN it's been a good one! And yes, I bought Kennedy's book and Jocko's Discipline is Freedom field manual yesterday.

Always loved Tim, but damn he really is one of those high-level extremely gifted guys. Just hearing about his ability to do extremely well and to rise up the ranks very quickly shows you how great the guy truly is, but as with all greatness it is rooted in the humbling of the individual which prepared him for true greatness.. EDIT: Back watching the rest of the episode - 3:18:07 onwards - damn, both of them get really emotional here. You can tell that Jocko identifies totally with that passage he just read before. Probably most serviceman share that exact sentiment, war is tough man 😥
