This E46 BMW 330ci ZHP coupe is a clean example of a somewhat underappreciated car. The ZHP package for the E46 3-Series featured 10 extra horsepower, M3-inspired suspension, a subtle body kit, unique wheels, and came in manual transmission only. This one has been modified with the help of a Vortech Centrifugal Supercharger system from ESS Tuning.

Door handles aren't just attached to the cards, they tend to be anchored to the body of the door. Otherwise they'd break very easily.

BMW door cards are not really attached well at all in the e36/e46 the bottom part starts letting go very easily when the cars get older. Also I have closed a car door before from the inside and after that I still had the door handle in my hand not attached anymore. But that was not a BMW.

Have you seen the values of them now? A clean e46 330 went for $26k on bring a trailer recently and it wasnt even low mileage. These cars were putting out WAY more than official figures suggested - easily over 250hp stock. 14 sec 1/4 mile is only slightly slower than an e92 335!

LegendInThaMakin it may be better but the only thing in my opinion who saved the E9X platform was the coupe..the E92..because when the e90 sedan came out it was so fucking ugly especially from the rear it was not even funny , plus big problems with the small 2.0 diesel engines..so the e9x platform eventually matured, fixed the issues , the sedan facelift actually looks good but i dont know it's still not as special as the e46 but it is probably more capable no doubt :)

Brian Vtec Hes using borla type exhaust usually a big no no for European cars. Usually for American muscle cars and crap ass v6 chargers. Doesn't work great on any European car

It's a Borla catback with bimmer brake headers. The headers cause the rattly, raspy sound that sounds bad. BMW I6's with a Borla by themselves sound good.

@@startingtech3900 ZHP refers to the "ZHP" package that BMW offered on these cars. It consisted of a revised suspension, 18" wheels, a little more horsepower, a few styling upgrades, and some other stuff. Hope this helps!

I think people jump on the sound too much. With i6/v6/i4 engines, you really have to hear them in person to get the low notes that the camera can't pick up. You can't just hear a video and dictate if it sounds good or not

The torque is higher then you would expect, 300 whp would roughly be 350 ft-lb on these engines with a supercharger like this.

M54's are excellent motors, reliable and very easy to work on, but they lack the power that the hungry car modder craves today since turbo cars are so common now I own an Imola Red ZHP sedan, and its a great daily car but I could never see it going much further The only thing that makes them likeable by many is the price you can find some ZHP's for, or ZSP 330i's Worth the price and investment if you keep it for a few years

Brandon Andrade If you want to make power, you need the early M50. The internal changes made from there onto M52 and M54 made them shittier and shittier.

It's not really about the power though. the ZHP is all balance. I have a Mystic Blue Metallic Sedan, 6MT, no nav, slick roof that I've put about 75,000 miles on over the last 4 years. It's such a sweetheart. Easy to heal-toe, wonderful steering, great ride quality, solid comfort, decent mileage. The miles melt away in any environment; and given the right tires, and weather. You CAN take an M54 up to about 400 whp, but that's about all they'll do without internal reworks that aren't worth it (just drop in an N54 at that point). And you'd have to contend with other driveline issues at that point anyway. It's just not really what they're about.

My E46 330ci is now 17 years old with 223,000km. It goes like stink and doesn't have a single rattle. Maybe it's because it's 700lbs lighter than stock, has not a single piece of trim left other than the dash, and if half seam welded O:). The poly bushings creak like hell though. Debating FI.... would be almost scary at 2700lbs with a 3.38 diff on the super tight country lanes around here...

I owned an E46 M3, and while no one will argue it was and still is a great car, I was never too fond of the sound. It is a unique high pitch raspy sound. Check out my vid of the exhaust I had and it sounded similar to this. I upgraded to an E92 M3 a few years back and I still never get tired of hearing the wonderful rumble of the V8. Cool car nonetheless.

You change out the midpipe (to get rid of the rasp) and get an El Diablo Exhaust and the car sounds perfect. There you go! Problem solved. I have an E46 M3 Competition in Interlagos Blue. That sound of the S54 never gets old and turns heads everywhere I go.
