All and all you did pretty good on your explanation, even explaining the oiling for the pushrods through the Rockers, the only thing that you didn't get right was the orientation of The Rocker shaft notches, one notch faces down at the number one cylinder on the driver side the other Notch faces down at the rear of the engine on the number eight cylinder this orientation will line the holes up that oil the pushrod cups, it's in the service manual, 273 with solid cams have the same orientation.

There are 3 different "j" heads with the part number 915. The t/a head is the only one with a reversed "j" on the head. The other two have correct upright J's. There is another j head with part number 915 that uses 318 rockers and pushrod wholes in the head that are much closer to the intake port wall. The 1973 and later 915 j head used the 318 port opening and push rod whole. The 1978 little red used the j head with 360 size ports and close push rods. The pre 1972 are the only j heads with the offset rockers and t/a pushrod wholes. You cant identify them without removing the valve cover and intake.

Question, I have a set of W2 Eco heads that I want to run. Issue the rocker arms I found look like the ones in your video but the bolts that go to the rocker shafts are to small to bolt down shaft. They are 5/16 bolt and the heads mounting holes are 3/8's in size can you help me understand why. The 3/8 bolt are to big to go through the shaft holes.

There are now several versions of W-2 econo heads. Some have standard height shafts and some have the tall height for the long valves. You need the W-2 shafts and I don't think the T/A shafts will work. There may be shafts for the bushed rocker arms and shafts for the non-bushed rocker arms. It's been a long time, but the early econo heads were only made for standard length valves and springs, but later. they were offered in the valve and spring version too. Instead of econo heads, I used the standard W-2 heads and machined new holes through the removal shaft stands to lower the shaft in the standard valve length. I just turn them on their sides. I think the W-2 rocker shafts are hard chrome plated. I haven't used roller rockers on them.

Thanks. Ive gotta set of 597 1.88 intake J heads that were used on 73 340 and some 360 engines ACCORDING to a mopar casting number breakdown, Im understanding these were the same heads that the 70 340 motors used. Story ive read is Chrysler had a lot of bare casting left over and as the years went by, they put on the last of the 340 and 360/ same runners and all-only smaller valves. Is this the case??

Yes, they are the same. the intake port size mimicked the 327 Chevy heads as did the original 2.02" and 1.60" valves.

all sbd castings should have been like these without that awful casting intrusion.

yes,we get it,were not dummies, but, can you grind out the rocker casting, from what ive seen, std heads are better than j heads, big heads are for racing, like the ford 4v,.the 2v are a better head.
