They told me if I had long hair it would have to be concealed completely, or I’d be fired. Since I’m a Veteran and was already tired of military regulations I chose other employment opportunities. He should’ve been aware and signed these policies during orientation. It is a company’s right to set their appearance standards. It’s our right to work somewhere else. Long hair vs dreadlocks. For people of color, dreadlocks are a form of care for their coarser hair, which I don’t fully understand why white people try them since it is a bit harsh on their hair type. Loose long hair gets easily trapped on anything compare to those short hair locks, so it makes no sense why he was fired. It is a culture thing, hygienic, and for those, growing their hair takes forever so a bit of pride included. Definite discrimination if others had long loose hair.

For example H2S can instantly kill you if above 100ppm, anything above 20ppm can become very dangerous really fast thats why safety guys are butts about the shaving policy, ive been on pads where its around 800-1000ppm blasting out of tanks, full face covering masks with oxygen tank was required to get near the tank or get up on it to replace a bad relief hatch with pressure on it,the straps on the mask where super tight but it kept that h2s out of my lungs and me from going 6ft under

Tattoos that contain demeaning or offensive images/text are not permitted. All tattoos must be covered while at customer locations. Beards must be neatly trimmed. For those who don't understand why this is a big deal, here's the issue with their policy: 1. If it's truly a safety issue, then they should be fine with their employees wearing their hair up. Do you think that they are telling women that their only option is to literally cut their hair, or be terminated if they do not? The fact that this isn't the case means that they are applying their policy selectively in regard to the "safety" claim that they make, which makes it discriminatory. (and that's with me leaving out the claim that the trucker made that other prospective employees in orientation were able to wear their hair at shoulder length or longer. I'm strictly speaking of how the policy is implemented.) 2. Their policy specifically states "No dreadlocks." Which is evidence that the policy was not created to mitigate issues with personal safety while at work. Because if this were the case, then they would have no problem with dreadlocks being worn at or above the neckline or collar, as their policy states is acceptable. By basically by telling the perspective employee that his hair must be worn at or above his collar, but also that he can't have dreads at all, they invalidated their first point regarding this being an issue of safety. If it's not a safety issue, then it's a preference issue, and if it's a preference issue, then a case can be made that the policy is inherently discriminatory.

Is it to look cool when you're in Wyoming and the wind is blowing 50mph and it whips around in your face? I would that you please not misinterpret my questions. I am a product of the 70's, Skynard,Allman Brothers, Zz Top,BoA,Frampton, Nugent etc. I once had my hair between my shoulders. It never impressed the girls. "The man" never was impressed. None of my friends bragged about it,nor were they impressed. I understand that people think it's a "right". But organizations have "rights" also. A person must understand this. Would you bring shame upon your family name,do you not wish to honor your family with proper conduct and manners. When out to dinner with your family do you talk with loud vulgar words,or are you polite and respectful so as not to cause your parents to be embarrassed? The same applies here. There was an earlier comment.
