Similar way to how some IPs like DayZ, Counter Strike and PUBG were mods of another game. They became their own thing and thrived. Oh well, no point wondering about "what ifs" anymore :/

I loved playing it competitively in H2-H3 days (not MLG, I just cared about my rank) but I equally loved the social playlists and custom games. Why in God’s name do we not have a Social and a Competitive version of each mode??? Bungie did that flawlessly.

On twitter people have taken issue with Esports pros and what they want from the game. Thing was back when we had MLG playlists we could COEXIST with a casual experience and have MLG settings for the Esports pros to enjoy their area. Halo is made up of so many communities with their own desires. We have people that just want to do trick jumping, assassinations, snipers, BTBers, and sweats like me. In the past halo supported all these communities and we could all coexist. Halo does not have to be competetive NOR casual as it used to be able to facilitate everyone's desires

They're starting to see the Halo community as if it were like any other community from most of today's first person shooters. Yes, competition burns in our souls, but we also seek a unique experience that we can enjoy with anyone, whether it be by ourselves, with people online, or in the couch with the bros. If you're taking charge of continuing a game with a prestigious legacy like this, you need to continue it in a way that allows that legacy to shine through and inspire newer generations of gamers. By putting that legacy in the corner just to appeal to what's "popular" or "efficient", you're basically lettting the next generation know that this is the way things are, and that anything that strays from that design isn't something to be looked upon. No amount of hard work will pay off if we can already tell what the product will be.

I still play MCC and am currently achievement hunting the campaigns and am having a blast. I play Reach and 4 mostly because they’re just dumb whacky fun. It had a very rough start I will admit but almost everything is fixed now and working properly. (I Pray to God they don’t go through with adding in micro transactions into the game though). All I look for in a Halo game is fun. All I look for in any game is how fun it is. I played only 2 multiplayer games of Halo: Infinite and about 30 minutes of the campaign on launch then uninstalled the game. Infinite was DOA and currently now it’s just a rotting corpse with little trinkets and shiny baubles tacked onto it every few months.

343 don't understand the fun aspect of Halo, like the quirky and floaty physics and ridiculous death cries like you mentioned. Both of those things are gone, and another thing they added to make you feel awkward or shitty: the vICtoRy or deFEAt at the end of the match. So dumb and unnecessary. Halo is an experience, it's not a freaking uber-competitive arena shooter like Quake or Unreal. The best moments in Halo are walking through a vast open area, with no sprint, like Blood Gulch or Sidewinder, and just being in awe of the skybox above you while you hear all kinds of sounds from nature, and ominous noises from the ring. That feeling of mystery, fun, and beauty is gone from Halo after 343 took over and wanted to make it an uber-competitive Spartan-bro shooter.

When I think Halo, I think playing the Campaign COOP with a friend, I think Firefight hours I'll never get back alongside a friend. I never played the MP, I don't take PVP too well at all so some of the best memories I have with Halo is the Campaign across all the games I played with a friend, the hours we spent grinding in Firefight just for laughs and bro time. When I boot up Halo Infinite I love the return to the Art Style... But that's it. The Campaign was not worth 60 dollars and since they refuse to add any mode that appeals to me I've literally not opened the game since beating the Campaign the week it was released. Clearly one base is being pandered too more when I add in I also liked playing Elites.... So.

This game at its core is fundamentally competitive. Fast movement acceleration, crouch strafing. Have you noticed bungie halo games made you slow down to walk speed before you can crouch? the reason reach was my favorite of the series was because of how community fun orientated it was i often go to mcc when i want to play halo and only play infinite if i feel like i want a more difficult time, when they talked about the pillars of the game i knew then and there 343 should no longer be in charge of halo because they don't understand it on a fundamental level

The competitive aspect of multiplayer is exactly why I don't play multiplayer. Even in games where casual gameplay is suposedly stronger I find myself getting frustrated with how other players get all sweaty. I don't think I've ever actually experienced a "party game" experience in halo unless it was campaign, custom games, or just playing with my one or two friends.

With halo me and my brother loved that it was the first fps game that we found to have a split screen campaign so we could work together to beat the covenant with no internet because it wasn't really a thing to have your system connected at that time and now with how it is we can't even play Halo 5 guardians or even infinite split screen campaign offline split screen campaign that was one of the main reasons I bought my first Xbox so I could play offline with my brother now we can't even do that with the new halo games it's so sad and disheartening.

From what I can see, Game Pass will prove to be more of a deterrent than a boon to AAA gaming if they carry on the path they are on. The whole focus is to keep you on the network and bring in as many people as they can. They don't care about the core Halo audience as long as they get tones of new folks playing Halo MP or getting it to the fake ass streamers with millions of subs. Its that target that messed up this game.

I play halo with a friend of mine in another state on the weekends when we both have some free time and we play social because we want to have fun playing halo we’re not the best at halo but we’re not terrible either so when we first played halo we played pretty well our first few matches and we did okay in others but now that we did well we’re constantly matched with sweats and we’re always put on a team that doesn’t do very well so we end up losing most our matches. I don’t really care about winning or losing a match in general I care about losing a match because we get matched on a team with less than average players (the player isn’t the issue) and have to play against a team of sweats trying to get famous or whatever playing halo competitively because we did well our first few games. If I wanted to get sweat on I’d play ranked but I’m a social player I don’t play for competition more than fun I want to have fun playing competitive. This is how every game with a multiplayer is getting. Multiplayer isn’t about having fun with friends anymore it’s about sweating your ass off so you can “have fun” nothing is fun stressing yourself out for a win or getting stomped on because you just want to casually play. It’s why I’ve stuck to single player games more than multiplayer games nowadays you just can’t have fun playing multiplayer anymore

Fuck when I played Halo with friends during Halo 3 and Reach, at no point did I care for anything competitive. It was simply a fun game to play with the boys, laughing and carrying on as we played fat kid or messed around in forge, with the occasional time we'd play in the match maker for slayer. It a shame that 343 were the ones to inherit Halo because they've been clearly demonstrating that they have no clue what Halo truly is, not just in the lack of campaign but their bullheadedness in forcing the game to be more competitive while ignoring the fun stuff. I could guarantee that if Infinite had launched with forge and working custom games, people would been having a whole lot more fun despite the sub-par netcode. They'd be making their own fun with making makes, messing around with game settings, or creating whole new gamemodes to play with their friends. Instead none of that was prioritised and seemingly shoved to the side in favour of microtransactions and 'competitive' gameplay, that doesn't really matter if your shots don't even register half the time.

See, "a party game with shooter mechanics" is more of what i'd describe Halo Reach as. There's no room for competitive. Halo 3 is just a tightly designed shooter that appeals to everyone. It embraced the goofy aspects of CE, but learned lessons from the design and reception of Halo CE and 2. That's the problem with 343's Halo: they don't ever learn their fucking lesson and instead just try to reinvent the wheel when they don't knock it out of the park while designing new ways to suck more money out of its player base. Its just awful.

I believe that a competitive multiplayer can live inside a casual multiplayer environment, but not the other way around. Halo should always be primarily social and casual, the player base should be given the tools to make the game competitive if wished. That would be the best step for 343 because they certainly cannot handle a live-service competitive game as we all can see. That would entail 343 and Microsoft surrendering a lucrative stream of revenue. TLDR: Money > Reputation, Playerbase Goodwill.

They can do so much for comp by just changing the settings in-game. They don't need to build the whole game around being competitive. Reach wasn't built around comp, but v7 settings made it pretty decent for what it was. This may be a bad example since h5 is probably the most comp game, but the only way it got to a good spot was by changing in-game settings. It may have been focused on comp, but we got mickey mouse settings in the first 2 years. They say they're focused on comp, but do the complete opposite of what that community wants (for example, bandit rifle has 1. no descope 2. bloom 3, insane recoil. No one wants that). And in the process, they piss off everyone. Casual players think 343 caters to pros, while pros wonder wtf 343 is doing. We all want the same thing, a fun game, and the right settings for comp. Doesn't seem too hard to grasp, but they're really struggling even knowing what to do. No wonder the execution is lackluster.

I want to understand what people mean by casual because every time I hear that it’s always backed with I’m getting destroyed in these games. So it would be casual if you were winning all your games. If M$ didn't own Halo, I could 100% see Nintendo releasing CE on one of their consoles. It does have that "party game" vibe maxxed out. EDIT: I think the reason Halo 4 gets so much shit is because it's almost purely casual fun with little to no actual competitive aspects. The reality is Halo 4 is a great game if you're looking to just chill out and play some Halo. That's not to say Halo 4 doesn't have its faults, it most certainly does but the one thing the community will never acknowledge is despite 343's name being plastered onto Halo 4 it was made by former Bungie employees, thus making Halo 4 an unofficial Bungie title. That's why Halo 4 still has that casual fun aspect, because as much as it says "343 Industries" it was for all intensive purposes a "Bungie Baby".

The Reach 'fall competitive stuff' is almost trash, you just need to see custom games in MCC or try to find a game that is not Reach and it takes more time. Now that those old games are not on the competitive market, people do what all we did with any bungie-halo: having fun I mean, 90% of custom games are done using Reach. Is the most physics and aim confortable game, lacking some movement but still no sweat at all. Sometimes people just love complaining about everything. Also the fall was because the grow of other franchises, not just one can eat all the cake

halo ce didn't even have online play 343 doesn't know what they're saying. what halo did to fps shooters smash did with fighting games. they made it a social party game. yes both halo and smash have competitive mlg moments but at the core both are party games. counter strike and street fighter on the other hand that's a different story.

I wouldn't say they "hate bungie" more than they love money/don't understand what made prior Halos work. A big pitfall they suffer from is overreacting to critiscm (just look at Halo's narrative since post-Halo4 as an example), and how they swung the pendulum from "too casual" to "too competitive". I think this is largely to blame for this problem. Also hyper competitive shooters are the shit rn and it wouldn't be a 343 Halo without trend chasing.

They really just think halo is just another AAA shooter They need to go or be completely reshuffled they after 10 years refuse to understand the most basic core fundamentals of the franchise.

What do you mean with halo reach and halo 4 being 100% casual? Those are the most sweaty games out there. Even campaign feels like some kind of competition, either with yourself or with the AI.
