Good to see how you do you construct your veggie structures. The thing I like about KZbin, you get good ideas of all the gardeners. That’s a good deal from Keith Morgan from Easynets. I might have to get my credit card out and buy some more🤣🤣 All the best Nic 👍

during my working life i actually had nothing spare financially for any form of netting. even my seed supply was by means of christmas and birthday presents. since retiring, things have changed considerably for the better, nigel. i've thought about the need for netting and decided i've gone this long without it ( just like my grandad ). my biggest problem has always been cats and pigeons, so i invested in a cat scarer. this also seems to scare pigeons (but not the robin ).this seems to have taken care of my biggest problem. as for aphids, etc, i've opted for companion planting. i would use netting as a wind break. our grandparents played a bigger role in our education than even THEY really expected. i feel blessed to have had such grandparents......................brian

Always good to look back and appreciate the things we had Brian. Allium leaf minor or carrot root fly are the main pest in our area and netting is the only effective method I’ve found. Tried companion plant in greenhouse with marigolds and tomatoes but that was only partially successful.

Thanks for sharing Nigel. Easy nets isn't far from us, bout 30 minutes drive. We need some enviro mesh for everything this year as lost a lot of leeks and onions already. Love the blue piping, have it on a lot of our beds 💙 We did one of your net covers with line pins and guttering last year and it was great. It just looks amazing! 👏🏽 Thanks for sharing Nigel, stay warm Rach 🌱👩🏼‍🌾

@@MuddyBootz No squirrels as such nor small birds. I wonder if that's because of the very open nature of our site - plus the fact that there's nearly always buzzards or red kites in the sky?

Nigel I’ve learned so much in that video Thank You. You sound quite local to me 😂 My husband asks what football team do you support? I’ve told him to mind it! But secretly I’m hoping you’re not a Villa supporter ok or West Brom or even Birmingham City! Don’t answer that unless it’s the right team and then we’re good to go 😂 Seriously I’m kidding 😂 Cheers!

Great to hear your opinion on the netting from Easynets. I've used scaffold netting for years but this winter I've bought 2 lots of 5.2 by 10 meters of the insect netting. It seems really good quality & I'm interested to see how they perform.

Thanks Nigel. No allotment here but just moved to a house with a good sized garden so in the very early stages of setting up all sorts of veggie beds. Too ill to bend much now so raised beds will be going in and seeing how to protect the growing plants was brilliant. Think birds will be an issue here but have two small questions. If you were just starting off, which would, in your opinion, be the most effective cover and does that smaller mesh stop sawfly. Have been plagued with gooseberry sawfly here in Scotland to such an extent that, if I get no fruit this year, I’m giving up on them.
@MuddyBootz
@MuddyBootz 6 ай бұрын
Hi Donna, I would definitely go for the fine insect mesh. Keeping sawfly out should be no problem 👍🏻
