Pulled some 500 MCM copper wire from a backup generator. 3 runs about 200’ with 4 500 MCM wires and 1 small ground wire. Took about 14 hrs labor and I made $3000 profit.

Lmao. I dated a stripper when I was in high school. Told my mom she was a waitress. We pulled it off for a few months. One night we fell asleep with the “shower room” money in my moms clothes dryer. We used to come home at 4am and we would dry the money for an hour and then collect it before my mom woke up. Well... my mom came downstairs early one morning before she went to work. She opened the dryer and it was packed with money. Just fell out all over the floor. I vividly remember my mom flinging my door open at 6am and yelling “why is the dryer full of money!” I jumped up wide awake. Stripper girlfriend naked in bed. Stripper boots on the floor next to my bed. My mom put things together really fast. She just said “Jesus Christ” and slammed the door. She didn’t speak to me for three days. When she finally did... she wasn’t exactly bringing me good news. She informed me it was time to get my 18 year old self out of her house. 😂. My 21 year old stripper girlfriend was only stripping for a few months. I told her it was a bad idea but she was hot and I honestly didn’t give a crap if other dudes stared and touched. I’m not jealous. I knew I was big enough to have her coming back every day. 😂 but anyway... stripper was hiding her stripping job from her family. The same weekend I was told to move out my house... I took her to church. She had to make the appear every Sunday to appease her family. They were super religious. Well... she walked in the church. Her mother stood up and walked into the aisle. Fell to her knees and started crying. I was like oh no. 🤦‍♂️ apparently her mom was part of the group at church that wrote letters to the local strip clubs trying to spread the word of god or some crap. Well her mom tried something new that week. She went online to find the email of the strip clubs. She opened the website for one club... and her daughter was on the front page of the website! Hahahahahahahahaha

Good friend of mine hired my crew to come into their bone yard to scrap it. Now, he was a foreman for a company called Resinall. They make the stuff that goes into ink to make it stick. Go fig. Ink needs an additive to stick to paper. Anyway, they are regulated by the EPA because the resin is flammable. I mean blow up the world flammable. EPA comes in, xrays everything, one crack and the entire weld has to be redone or they have to buy new equipment. It shocked me how often they have to buy new equipment. Piping, tanks, all stainless steel. My crew cleaned them out. Down to every nut and screw. Not going to say how much it ended up being but it was close to 100k, in a month. That is with the 50/50 with the company.

My biggest find was a 20meter telefone cable, that brought me 1 kg of smaller copper wire (still with insulation) but I dont have a machine like that so i had to cut it all with a knive and it took me like 3 hours because that stuff had several layers.

Your bookkeeping and accounting is brilliant! Excellent breakdown on labor and cost to profit. Copper is interesting in how many grades there are for buying price. I had some 6061 aluminum and the yard said it's just going to be mixed aluminum. Even the aluminum foundry yard was paying market price too, because they buy all the other yards aluminum mix and can't go above market value. I end up selling it all for $60 to a welding student who was looking for aluminum to use for a project.

We process alot of wire from our Electrical business. One thing we do with shorter sections of 350-750mcm cable is put it in a 55 gal drum and tip it over in front of a kerosene heater...5 minutes in there and that insulation is like butter, the copper holds in the heat so its stays warm for a good while. Just a way to get that insulation off alot easier.

@jrand2631
@jrand2631 3 жыл бұрын
It's not as much because it's cheaper to use Aluminum, but because it is much less likely to be stolen by thieves. Here where I live (Northern Europe) we had huge problems with copper thieves from the former communist Eastern Europe, they stole every piece of wire they could get their filthy hands on, they even stole the big copper wires from our sub- and commuter railways - they cut large amounts of cables out of the system while there was still power in them - more than 25,000 volts! Insane!

@@jrand2631 You are so right when it comes to thieves. The trick they use on the communication towers is plate the copper just like aluminum and wale the thieves just leave that alone. The real problem is that in USA just like in Europe the scrap price of copper is just so high. Greed is universal which makes so much sense. Great point made J Rand. Peace and stay virus safe. VF

The last about year in Vancouver BC the scrap metal shops having been buying bright bear copper wire anywhere from min 3.20 a pound to 3.60 a pound . And almost all have heavy industry wire case slippers (wire cutter machine ) that will do exactly what you set it too do , I used it once and was cutting open big gauge spaghetti copper wire , I'm not a fan of stripping those and if your doing it by hand with a utility knife and lose the angle and end up cutting into the super thin spaghetti wire and have a lot too do and ended up forgetting the places you cut into and start pulling off that caseing and by the time your done you gets up with a few nasty metal slivers , one time got it real bad and the copper sliver ended up making its was from the side and under my thumb nail up almost all the way . Pain most of been a hard 9 out of 10 and only felt that kind of paain maybe one other time . And I grow up as a dirt bike rider . Few pro attempts .but ended up taking a slip on my own time , about a hour away from the shop . Mech just installed a few major things and wanted me to ride it until the take got empty , he had strapped a gas jug of the back . I kinda forgot what all that was for , he added something to the gas , wasn't oil for a two stroke engine . I think I was to coat the new things he installed and replaced . I remember I had to keep the RPMs super low the whole time , wasn't alot to go over even if a bear showed up he said . And once it was getting low I had to open the cap and make sure the last bit of it went in and couldnt see any at all . I think I remember seeing it getting sucked in and think it was red , like red red , almost metallic maybe . And right when the last bit got suck towards it way I had to be fast and put the gas can I had on my back seat and do it fast with out the engine season up on my and stalling or of it did the process would have not worked and would have been started over again . Use to love riding , use to go on the island and find trails everywhere , so much beauty and peace , once found a lake in the middle of nowhere , nobody has been there for years , like 10 to 15 easy . It was super hard to get to by bike . Next riding season alot of things change with out any word to any buddy , trails wereclosed off and nobody was allowed on bikes anymore , well that were higher then 30ccs lol so only kids bikes they learn and start riding and only other type I can think of is those clown bikes lol so they changed the rules but made sure they could still ride , dam clowns . We would cut there chains but someone had to tell and earn thier drown nosing badge , so theycasted in 6ft poles set in concert . Lol remember someone come by after they had the poles up and was waiting for the concert to dry over night and someone ended up printing a pic of strippers on poles and bottom had tabs for lessons with a number to the department in charged of started and doing all of that and was placed in a plastic clear holder and they put it in the wet concert and made sure it wasn't coming out . They won't let us have fun so will have fun with them lol Those trails took years to come together , and there was almost a group of 20 to 30 guys in the summer working on the trails . And we had big big signs up letting people know not to walk on them and you need some form Of a bike that can go fast . Even in the parking lot and one part near the logging road we all put money in and got this huge 15 by15 sign for the parking lot and 20 by 20 for the road . The road was got taken down , they said it was a driving distraction since there had nothing on it to do with the road or anything that would be coming . So we had to turn it around and add a smaller one on the back of it saying any hikers in the area to take a min and refresh your self and read this big super expensive sign and make it 100% worth it so we all can hopefully sleep a bit better at lease until the real groverments bill comes in for all the signs we had to pay for . They charge you buy letters , even . Or ? And charge more for capital letters , the colour of the letters , the back ground too , paint was so expensive because we had to use what they use ND had to is a aluminum , basically giant aluminum sign . I would have stopped on the high way and take the big green ones and paint over it . If people don't see now that it's first of all on privite property but we made sure if somehow a hiker got lost they could see very easy to stay off the train or risk getting hit by dirt bikes , we made them on are friends 220 acres , sing also saying as long as you have a bike supporting anything over 30cc lol maybe 75 or 90 cc could be alright . I like changing it up , bepending on how I feel and if I want Togo fast for awaile or try some jumps going fast but on a small frame and less CCs = less weight . = Easter jumps and more control and lower CCs able to get the RPMs up at the right time to make for better landings . Do these jumps with a big boy and your body willl be the first to let you know to stop . Big boy (big Frame ) is more or less double the frame Wight and engine it 3timez the Wight. If you have ever taken a seado out on the water and get some big air and the landing in almost like landing on solid ground it feels like . You joints will be very. Showllen and ice

Just curious what would the yard give you for the wire with the insulation on it. That wire recovery is about 80 % it would seem that 14 hours of labor is a lot of time

I made $3192.30 in 14 hours. I just did the math it’s a $2132.70 difference. I buy Insulated copper $.20 off of what I can sell it for. if I sold it as is I would have made $1059.60 in about 5 hours. There is asbestos coated copper wire , while not around any more my house was filled with it ,I'll post a pic if I still got any laying around, it's a blackish silver coating and it's either real soft ,like rubber or very brittle , I guess it depends on the environment it's been in
@KathrynsWorldWildfireTracking

Until I make my safety video, i'm getting word out in comments: In USA, asbestos was in wiring up until about 1980. (But I guess ban never reached SE Asia, or Canada...) It was not found in all wires. But it was considered premium, and marketed as "firesafe." It won't be labeled. It can be in ANY variety, from tiny to huge. Household to industrial. Electricians, auto mechanics and scrappers are some of the last occupations to still frequently encounter it, unfortunately. So you should have your PPE. Good news: It's pretty easy to avoid. You inspect each older-looking wire before you go ape on it. ;) Mask up until you're certain it's safe, as you test it. Get a jeweler's loupe + light off Amazon for $7. Air cleaners by your station helps. Avoid stripping any wire that looks old, for rule #1. Look at exposed ends to see if any of it sticks out, and carefully strip the test-end while masked, OUTDOORS, so none of it settles in your living space. Look inside, if clean, go with gusto. Immediately launder your clothing and shower after bagging the wire if exposed. It will settle on your clothes and hair. That's it. Your external danger signs are: 1) Gold/brass colored plugs (anything with a new, shiny silver wall plug is nickel-plated, and that tradition began after asbestos bans so you're safe with it.) I simply don't strip anything gold. 2) Obvious signs of age (like cracking insulation, UV light discoloration, oxidized ends or worn-out female plugs) 3) Vintage-style plugs with elegant or fanciful shapes or proud logos 4) Bouncy, rubber wire insulation. Or woven cloth. I don't strip anything with the above danger signs. I had a bag of about 60 old household lamp/appliance cords, and two of them were particularly old/rubbery/bouncy. They both had asbestos, and I was exposed in my kitchen. I threw the wire in a ziploc, rinsed my nostrils with saline, masked up, turned air filters to max, and vacuumed every square inch of my home to the curtains. One looked like pale brown cigarette filter stuff, the other like bright white fluffy cotton-esque fibers. It's lighter than feathers, fibrous, breaks to pieces, and flies up into the air. BUT THE DANGER IS WHAT YOU CANNOT SEE - IT'S MICROSCOPIC. Millions of fibers can be all around you from stripping. A crazy statistic was one pushpin in a popcorn ceiling could release 8,000 invisible fibers... Worst thing - wire that old gives you horrible dark brown/green #2. Beware old jumper cables - saw a youtuber take a blizzard of asbestos when he stripped some. :( **Edit: By the way, I stared at and poke the asbestos-wire in my kitchen for 20 minutes before realizing what it was. I didn't think it was in wiring either, but it just kept reminding me of pictures I saw on a Home Inspector's Safety blog. I googled "do old wires contain asbestos?" And my blood ran cold. I'm grateful we live in such a fortunate time to be scrapping. So many in the past did what we did, and died. :(

Nice Video! Your calculations for 230$/h are nice and obviously great for the video but my problem with that is the question what did you do with the rest of the hours of the days you worked hard on stripping the wires? Do you think that what else you did was as effective as if you didnt strip wires the hours before? Im wondering how much of your energy did you spend on these workdays with the wires. Sometimes I think for days about how I do a specific task, then do it in 2 hours and its often great, sometimes I do 2 hours of extremly exhausing and efficient work but am done for the day, I just feel that as self employed its more about using your ressources in a wise way than $/h..
