@@wiwidparamita4460 hi Wiwi, that actually cracks me up and makes me feel good at the same time. In the most recent video, my charcuterie board, I even suggested to people to get a notepad and take notes because there’s often so many things I put in these videos that it’s easiest just to keep track with notes until you’ve learned to employ those techniques. Thank you so much for being here and your comment.😘😘

Soothing for newbies like me who try to emulate you. On a personal note, I hope you and family are in better shape now after the damage from Helene. Thank you so much Toni, for joining with me and your support. You actually could see up close in personal some of our experience from the storm as I do have a few videos for hurricane Helene that I captured that day and the day after. We did have a gigantic tree land on our roof that is since been removed and repaired but it’s been a journey for sure. We probably have 50 trees down on our property, of course we’re in the mountains. We drove to the Blue Ridge Parkway entry yesterday in the drive there that road going out to it easily 20% of the trees must be down, uprooted or snapped. It was a pretty fear storm unfortunately you didn’t have to see all this, or experience it. If you’re interested, I’ll link my Helene playlist top hits.😞 kzbin.info/aero/PLD3gEym1bn-N88c0RfR6uVspOdQzT4Exy&si=cifc4TxsiFcVQPRX

Your right, you can't loose using blue. I use to work as an electronic assembler. We had to work in Class 100 Clean Room conditions. The area was cleaner than an operating room. The tiniest speck of dust can ruin an integrated circuit. You might try making a dust cover over your work station. Thats what a fellow who does epoxy resin pours. He actual bought a portable outdoor cover to set up over his work. Complete with see through mesh for the walls. I believe the mesh was meant to keep bugs out. It's some thing to concider.

I am totally enchanted and captivated by your art, Louise! I’m new to acrylic pouring - that’s a euphemism for never yet having poured anything! 🙂 I’m gradually accumulating things that I need to get started, and your videos and tutorials are profoundly helpful! I can’t begin to thank you enough for sharing your wisdom and talent! I try to glean as much information as I can from the descriptions, but I’m hoping you can give a more explicit description of the tiles that you get from Home Depot, ie, maker/manufacturer, bar code, anything? I drove 40 miles to our nearest Home Depot yesterday, and the only tiles they could show me were about $1 each (!!) It’s possible that they just didn’t stock them there, but I couldn’t find them online either at the price point here in your tutorial. Help??
@LouiseMcKayArt
@LouiseMcKayArt 10 ай бұрын
Ok 👍🏼 M, I looked up Home Depot and believe this is it, 100 count case is $15.98, white tile: Restore Bright White 4-1/4 in. x 4-1/4 in. Ceramic Wall Tile (12.5 sq. ft. / Case) If I may suggest something to you, the Bloom technique is a little more advanced, especially because there are so many variables in it. You may want to try a straight pour or open cup first to get a feel for how the paint works how to move the paint around, etc. I don’t want to discourage you from the bloom, but it is a little bit involved, even though it might look fairly simple when watching. Get the tiles tho, you’ll be needing them anyway!!

If you live anywhere near floor and decor, they have the best prices, around $11 a box of 100

I can’t thank you enough, Louise! There is a floor & decor about 70-80 miles from here. And I understand that it takes a LOT of experience to reach your level. I’m happy to try starting more easily and working up. I just am so enthralled by your talent that I love watching your videos! And it seems that tiles could be used to practice the more simple pours, so I thought I would try those and small canvases to start. Thank you for making the time to give me answers!

Thank you, KC! this video was long before the hurricane tore up our back area and our whole property for that matter. I usually go with a set of four coasters and as far as costs,I’m frequently asked questions about pricing and I don’t answer what I sell my creations for because it’s based on this market here in Asheville, cost of my materials, the quality of my pieces, my time and what it’s worth to me to move pieces so I can create more. You have to find out your price point in your area given these considerations. Hope that helps, but I really can’t tell you what to price your pieces at. That’s really your call. Yes, well water has been a blessing as Asheville probably won’t have drinkable water for even a couple months more. Thank you so much for being here and once again all your support. 💙

You bet, just so you know I started 3 years ago… I was switching from technique to technique every week and that’s a big mistake. Dive into something for a bit to get the hang of it then branch out. I was between 3 techniques that needed 3 different consistencies and recipes and it was hard. I poured over a lot, a lot of small canvases and times for practice!

Hi Louise you are great! It is so relaxing whatching your beautiful work. I have a question for you. Can varnish be used instead of resin?
@LouiseMcKayArt
@LouiseMcKayArt 9 ай бұрын
Hi Zoila, of course, the varnish just won’t have the resiliency or durability of the resin.

Hi Marcia, and thank you for being here. I get the tiles from Home Depot in a 100 pack for about $14. Lowes has them as well or if you're near a Floor and Decor they have the best deal.

How long do you let the paint dry before you resin.
@LouiseMcKayArt
@LouiseMcKayArt 6 ай бұрын
Hi Michele, on coasters I wait at least seven days depending on the environment. If it’s really damp, I go longer to make sure it’s fully dry.

My epoxy resin top coat is retracting from the edges once it dries, leaving the edge un-coated. I have to put another layer to cover it up once it's dry. I know I pour enough as I have drips at the edges at the beginning. The epoxy I am using is Shabebe (from Amazon) brand, though I did order the Liquid Stone epoxy from KS resin but it hasn't arrived. Do you have any advice as to how to fix this issue? Thank you in advance.

@LouiseMcKayArt 2 ай бұрын
@@wiwidparamita4460 first of all sorry about the problem, I think we’ve all had a problem like that when we don’t find the right resin to use. It sounds like you had plenty, but not all resin is made the same. The nice thing about resin is that it is forgiving, and you can fix it. So I suggest you just get a 220 grit sandpaper and do a fine sanding on you are pieces, a very light sanding just enough to scuff it. Wipe it down with a paper towel and alcohol. Then apply another coat of resin. If you can wait for the KS you might want to do that, if you’re in a hurry, you can try the other one again. I know I’ve had this problem before when trying a substitute resin and then I always go back to KS. But either which way the good news is, it is fixable just distressing in the meantime.

Hi Louise I bought valspar 833125 by mistake it’s still high gloss , is there a big difference between that and 833124 ? Thanks so much 🙏

Hi Susan, I honestly don’t know. I’ve looked at both the cans and they both read exactly the same a high gloss interior and exterior base c. that must be tinted or high gloss paint and primer. So aside from looking at fine print I don’t know I’ve never used the 25, but I even went to the Shelley Art group and saw that somebody was using the 25 with varnish so all I could say is give it a whirl.

I’m confused about the “mileage” of the resin per square inch of the surface area. X amount of milliliters per x square inch of surface. Can you be more specific? In your video you resined 8 coasters (64 sq. Inches) and used 100+ milliliters (I think it was approx. 120+?). Being math-challenged, I couldn’t find the correct mileage for my project. I’m resining about 16-20 4x4” tiles, and have 2 KSResing kits (each has 2-4oz bottles of resin and hardener for a total of 16 oz. How do I calculate the mileage? Love your channel and I’ve been on a roller coaster, yuk yuk. Thanks for your help. 😊
@LouiseMcKayArt
@LouiseMcKayArt Ай бұрын
Hi Kate, well first off 8 coasters is a lot more square inches than 64. If your tile is 4” square, than you’re looking at 16 square inches/coaster. I’ll stop with that for now and funny you pose this question today as I was resining today and thinking I probably should do a quick tutorial on calculating mileage. So I’ll try to get something out next week sometime.

How many milliliters did you use for the 8 tiles and how does that translate into a per tile milliliters? (I’m trying to get at least 12 of them finished by Christmas Eve.) Thank you! 💝

@@kateeoyler1416 hi Kate, I can tell you what I use with the KS resin that I use, but I can’t guarantee that’s gonna be exactly right for you. I will be putting out a video probably tomorrow to show how I calculate this, but since it sounds like you’re in a crunch and just want an answer to get going and you’ve never done this before, I would plan on 15 mL per coaster, I usually plan on 12 mL per coaster. Remember to wipe them down with an alcohol spritzed paper towel first so you don’t get any blank spots. Please watch my video tutorial when it comes out so you can understand for your future calculations…What resin are you using?
