Lol I've had my supplies for like 6 months. I've just been so scared to jump into a new (and expensive) medium. But thank you for this and all of your videos. I've been watching for awhile trying to build up the nerve, but now I feel ready-as I'm gonna be. Here goes nothin'!! Love from the beach in S.C.

So informational! Thank you. I've been making resin/polymer clay jewelry for quite some time. First time I used Stone Coat, I was surprised at how fast it actually set up.. However; I have watched most of your videos so I knew what to expect lol. Thank you for all the information you give us! 😊

Well done, you explained it very comprehensively and I found it of great value. It is a pity we cannot get the range of products and the prices are way more expensive here in Australia. Keep up this type of video, regards Tony

My video #49 shows how I use my leftover resin drips to make jewelry pendants. I haven't done a full tutorial though. I'll add it to my list!
@joannesarlo5185 жыл бұрын
thank you for this very informative tutorial. I have tried resin once to coat two completed paintings and messed them up so badly, they had to be tossed. I have been fearful of trying resin again. but your explanations in this video were so complete, I am definitely going to give it a try again. One question... does the temperature of the room you are using the resin in, need to be a certain temperature? I heard the room temp could definitely effect the resin curing properly. thank you!
@thefrugalresinista5 жыл бұрын
Definitely try again! You guys see my videos of things that were successful but I definitely have pieces that get messed up and don't work the way I want them to. I think it just takes a few tries to get the hang of the resin. I know that the hotter resin is, the faster it will cure and if it is extremely cold, it won't cure correctly. I have my studio space set to 72 degrees Farenheit.
@nearretire5 жыл бұрын
Not sure if I just missed this. How exactly do you mix the resin with the paint? Equal parts of each resin?
@thefrugalresinista5 жыл бұрын
You want only a tiny bit of paint. Resin doesn't love acrylic paint. I do 1 part paint to 10 parts resin. That's enough to color it really well but not enough to make the resin the wrong consistency. Thanks for watching!

I'm am just learning about this. You are a wonderful teacher. Thank you so much. One ? Can you use the resin around a furnace and water heater?
@thefrugalresinista5 жыл бұрын
I think you mean can you pour in the same room? I believe so. The higher the temp, the faster your resin will cure so you just want to make sure that you either work fast or stick to a temp that is not too high in the room.
@robinbeck88545 жыл бұрын
I was referring to the fumes from the resin and the open flame from a furnace and water heater. I'd hate to blow myself up. Lol
@thefrugalresinista5 жыл бұрын
Gotcha! I think it would be fine. I use a blow torch right against the resin to pop the bubbles. Depending on what type of resin you use might make a difference. I use Stone Coat Countertops resin and that is approved around extreme heat. They even have a KZbin video of them lighting a counter top on fire!

How much resin did you put into the cup with 1 tsp of color & did you do the hard & soft resin and the quick dry resin? Or did you do just the quick dry? Thanks, Joyce

I have a question. I did my first resin geode, thanks to ur inspiration :). But I noticed when I tipped it that the paint had gone to the bottom and ‘stuck’ t the canvas. So it muddied the look. Any idea why that happened??
@thefrugalresinista5 жыл бұрын
Hmm... I'm not sure what you mean by the paint going to the bottom. Do you mean that the paint sunk into the resin so you had a kind of color on the bottom/clear on the top look?
@joycecirasuola99155 жыл бұрын
Cannot find the quick coat resin that you used. Could you give me the site? I went on Stonecoat counter top/ quick dry coat and didn’t see it. Thanks Joyce

Would u ever use dollar store acrylic paint?
@thefrugalresinista5 жыл бұрын
I probably wouldn't. But not because it's acrylic. I've looked at our dollar stores in the area and their colors aren't that great. My local Walmart does sell a LOT of colors and they are only $.50 each! Maybe give that a try if you have a Walmart in your area?

Thank you for this. I can’t wait to try it! I bought some liquitex from Micheal’s, what are your thoughts on that? It just says it’s a pouring medium. ?
@thefrugalresinista5 жыл бұрын
I've used Liquitex! I think it's fine. I wouldn't put it in resin at all but if you are mixing it with acrylic to pour and then put resin over the top when it is dry, it should be fine. That's what I've done in the past.

Hi...to eliminate plastic waste, can we mix with the small dixie cups that are waxed paper?

I think you could. I use the thicker cups and reuse them a bunch of times. That helps with waste as well.

Just don't use alcohol to get resin off your skin. I was using it the first few times I used resin for the times I accidentally got it on my skin but then I read that the alcohol breaks down the resin so much that it makes it seep into your skin 😒 whoops!
