So amazing! Can you tell me what you would sell a piece like this for? I am starting to make these resin geodes (and LOVING it) and I have no idea how to price them!! Maybe you could make a video on how you determine pricing for your different sized/types of pieces?
@thefrugalresinista
@thefrugalresinista 4 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. I always want to give my art enough value for the time and effort that I put into it, but the reality is that you kind of have to also look at the available market. If you had good advertising and a way to sell online, you could probably sell for a higher price. I am to busy with my kiddos for that! I have an art booth one town away that I sell my art in so I price things a bit lower since my available clientele is smaller. This one sold quite a while ago, but I believe that it was in the $35 to $50 range maybe?
@SammyJoAnderson
@SammyJoAnderson 4 жыл бұрын
@@thefrugalresinista thank you so much for replying!! That gives me a great place to start. I, also, have 6 children (one special needs) and live in a small town, so I'm limited to a few shows during the holiday season and am still building a following online. I didn't really have any idea what a "lower" range would be, so I appreciate it. 😊

Can you make a video showing us how u cut this piece and get rid of Matt board. And how you polish it?
@thefrugalresinista
@thefrugalresinista 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I actually didn't cut this piece. I poured it right onto parchment paper after creating a hot glue barrier. If you do about 3 layers, it will be sturdy enough to not need a back. I poured a clear coat of resin to make it shiny and polished.

Lastly, (I promise,) do you try to get the resin to completely cover the glass pieces. I worry about someone cutting themselves on it, but covering them entirely would affect the shimmering reflection? Or would it? Maybe include a caution with the geode?.?
@thefrugalresinista
@thefrugalresinista 5 жыл бұрын
If you break your own glass, I would definitely cover it in resin because it is super sharp. When you buy it already crushed as vase filler, etc... it is tumbled ahead of time so it typically doesn't really have sharp edges. I don't coat it then. Hope that helps!
@MyFavoriteNolaThings
@MyFavoriteNolaThings 5 жыл бұрын
@@thefrugalresinista it is "decorative filler ". You're right, it isn't sharp like you would think. Tumbled, huh? That would explain it. Thanks for the insight.

I just found you on KZbin today and I have being enjoying your videos so much!! For these geodes that you make on the mats, how do you display them? Since they look to be on the thinner side, could they be hung? Thanks for all of your inspiration!!
@thefrugalresinista
@thefrugalresinista 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I display them on a stand but you could definitely hang them. I find that you just have to add the second clear coat for them to be thick enough to hold their shape and you should wait about a week before propping them so that they don't bend. I'm getting ready to do another freeform video and will show how to put a wall mount on the next one!

You make beautiful pieces! Thank you for sharing your how-to videos. How long does it take for a resin piece like this one to dry so you can lift it?
@thefrugalresinista
@thefrugalresinista 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! You can lift it within a couple of hours but it won't hold its flat shape totally for 36 to 48 hours. If I am bending a piece, I will do it at about the 3 hour mark. If I want it to stay flat, I leave it alone for a couple of days.

Thanks for breaking this down the way you do. In this video, I figured out, I think, you put Sand with the center crystals and some glass pieces. I found the sand on your list. Sorry if you've answered this already, BUT, is this more beneficial than glitter or does it serve another purpose? Or just cheaper than glitter? Also, I saw, I think Tammy Anderson, color some glass shards with alcohol inks. Think that would work with sand? Shipping is same for 5lb sand as 1lb!
@thefrugalresinista
@thefrugalresinista 5 жыл бұрын
First, thanks so much for watching! I used that specific sand because it is very sparkly and I like that it is thick enough that it gives good coverage. I haven't tried alcohol ink with sand but I bet it works really well. You would have to probably experiment with making sure that it is covered in resin though or I think that maybe it could come off. I can't remember if Tammy covers her glass in resin after using alcohol ink. Fun experiment for you to try!

why u didn't remove the silicon after dried?
@thefrugalresinista
@thefrugalresinista 5 жыл бұрын
I actually used hot glue from a glue gun instead of silicone so it is meant to stay as part of the geode. I painted it with gold enamel paint after the resin cured.

can you mix the resin right into the paint, then pour it?
@thefrugalresinista
@thefrugalresinista 5 жыл бұрын
Yes. It only takes a tiny bit of paint. You want to do a 1 part paint to 10 part resin ratio or even a bit less to make sure that the resin will cure properly.

@thefrugalresinista
@thefrugalresinista 5 жыл бұрын
I think that unfortunately, if you've waited that long the resin must not have been mixed all the way. I've done that before! Bummer. But you can pour one more clear coat over the top and that will fix it.

@@thefrugalresinista I started my first geode a few days ago. I put a circle of hot glue in the middle to separate colors. Same here. Did not stick. The good thing was that as a large circle I could move it around to the right spot. Tammy Anderson used SPRAY ADHESIVE on cardstock to wood, so I had some. I sprayed the silicone mat lightly. Worked Like a Charm! That glue "stuck like chuck"!
