On 21st October large parts of Britain were suffering the severe consequences of Storm Babet. However, Carlisle and the Solway Firth area were enjoying a beautiful late October day so I took my camera and drone out to Harrington to film the Cumbrian Coast Express from Bristol making its way along the winding shoreline. All did not go according to plan (when does it ever?) as the express was already running significantly behind schedule when it eventually reached me. Things were to go badly wrong later on - but that's a story for others to tell.
This is a film best viewed, if possible, on a large monitor - even better if 4K.

Excellent video Tim, everyone should travel by train along the Cumbrian coast, one of the best routes in the country by far. The sound didn't really spoil the action.

Thanks Ian - truly one of the most under- rated routes in Britain.

some excellent drone-work there. You got a longer view than I managed - stuck behind a tractor for a long time meant I only got to Wigton where BIL decided to run slow for some reason. I'm glad I hadn't ade the journey to the south with BIL suffering from leaves on the line south of Dalton tunnel. So not the best of days.

It could have been worse - you could have been a passenger getting home in the wee small hours!

Super footage again Tim and some great scenery from above. Heard that BIL stalled at Dalton Bank and the two 47's went to rescue her resulting in being 2.5 hrs late.

Thanks David. That's the story I heard. A shame, especially for the passengers from Bristol who had a very late arrival home. If they'd left one of the 47s on the rear the situation would presumably have been avoided.

@@schoolshorts yes would've been better to have a helper on the rear.

Nice work Tim, drone shot very good too, 35018 looks to be going very steady, i finally caught BIL at Grange in the Dark Two and a half hours late after stalling at Dalton and had to be recued by two 47s, one of those days, cheers Steve .

A sad end to the day for BIL - and for her passengers who had a very late arrival home. As you say - one of those days.

I thought you were brave venturing out but it looked a nice day. There were hardly any trains running with floods blocking the lines on the East side. Did you notice when the train arrived in Carlisle how the rear locomotive shook everyone up.

I'm afraid it shook up its passengers even more on the return trip, running into trouble at Dalton (I believe) and having to be rescued by diesels sent out from Carnforth. 2hr 42min late at Wigan! A VERY late arrival back at Bristol.
