I've a 1970 F-100 Sport Custom truck, my high-school hotrod. I outran Cameros and Corvettes with that machine. It had a 351c 4bbl engine with a hot cam, and a very wrong work transmission. After 4000 rpm, it was like driving a WWII fighter plane. The startup is very familiar. Heh, I went through seven starters and three batteries in 5 years. It's sitting at my mom's house waiting for restoration. I think the last time I ran it, it was something like 12:1. With the new pistons, I expect I'll be stuck with racing fuel. When it idled, I was lucky at something north of 1100, even then, it struggled. What a great sound. Mine was deep-throated, yours seems somewhat tinny. I'm not sure why the difference, aren't you working on an exhaust system? Mine was very simple. Anyway, what a very pretty engine. When tuned to make power, it barely runs. It sounds great, it runs great, it behaves terribly. I want three (one in a DeTamaso Pantera, if you please).
@troyberg653 жыл бұрын
At the time of this video I had the exhaust off changing it up from straight dual 3" with Hooker Maxflow mufflers to 3" mandrel with an X pipe and the same mufflers; It was idling a bit high in this video and my phones microphone didn't quite reproduce the sound completely accurately. Extra compression really does add throatiness to the tone though; at this time it still runs stock cast flat tops; but it sings at 7000 rpm and is completely aggressive with the 3800rpm converter. It launches as hard as my 2013 SHO with about 480hp, 500ft lbs of torque and AWD. And it's only about .02 slower in the quarter mile. On a stock bottom end. In the works is a 393 for it at around 10.8:1....... Would also love one in a pantera

This engine came with 4v open chamber heads, I came across some 4v Closed chamber heads to up the compression for $400, had the pedastles milled for an adjustable valve train for another $300, got this solid flat tappet cam $250, Crower coolface lifters $125, I scored my comp roller tip rockers for $10 locally but they're typically $200. The rotating assembly is bone stock but I went through it and checked everything out and installed a oil restrictor kit. Intake is a Torker single plane and headers are Hooker longtubes. I scored the short block for $750 and got the intake for free from my dad. so total is around $2000 after other odds and ends like gaskets timing set etc. The efi system was a few bucks but it made just as much power with a tuned holley 750double pumper I rebuilt (already had that). A proper timing curve also makes a huge difference.

well the cam requires the heads to have screw in studs so the valvetrain can be adjusted; It also had single groove stainless valves installed and dual springs to control them to 7200rpm. It has hooker longtube headers (open in the video) with 3" collectors. Up top is a torker intake and fast ezefi. Bottom end was a bone stock rotating assembly aside from the cam, good timing set and restrictors in the oil passages with factory flat tops running 9.8:1 static compression.

Sounds like it needs a tune up? Did you forget to put oil in it?

I really appreciate the guy who does a video of his car trying to show how it sounds, or his new motor and the car is a complete and utter POS and is dirty as hell with wires hanging out from under the dash. There is something special about these types of people. Good lord WHY!

Rather a car that runs hard and looks like shit than a car that looks beautiful but barely runs.

@@troyberg65 Oh rest assured my Chin is always up. Now clean that SOB up.

@@RipitRon The much of the mechanical odds and ends are already cleaned up; Paint and body is gonna be a while. It this state it was right after a motor refresh with the cam; the exhaust was getting re-done with an x-pipe And I was gutting some speaker wiring that was in bad shape. It gets the stock bottom end motor replaced with a fresh stroker this winter, then I have some rear suspension work I want to do. Maybe another year till I get back on body work (it was worse with a flintstone floor before). Front suspension is all redone now too. Cheers 👍

Nice sound. I have two of these, one 73 351c2v and one 71 351c4v. This sounds make me want to rebuild 73 with flat top pistons and cam and 71 throw in a cam to make them rumble close to that

Cleveland's respond extremely well to a properly sized camshaft and free flowing exhaust
