This can't be said enough. Custom firmwares are what take these devices from being cool novelties to being genuine pleasures to use, and 351ELEC is my personal favorite (though they're all fantastic in their own way, something that I think gets lost sometimes in the comparisons). We're incredibly lucky to have them.

I’ve been considering the RG351V, mainly for the higher resolution screen, BUT, I think I’m going to wait to see if Anbernic releases a horizontal system with a higher resolution screen, and improved hardware for the more intensive games. As for the Doom content, thank you, but I never could play it without getting very motion sick.

Just two days ago I made the decision to flash 351ELEC on my 351P after all. ArkOS started to feel clunky and I messed up RetroArch so badly that I couldn't even use it anymore - I'm sure all of that is on me, no doubt. But following your tutorial from a few months back, it's true what you said: It really is a "plug and play"-kinda deal where everything just _works_ after some setting up. And I was excited to see this new update as well. I fell in love with my little 351P once more!

Yeah the only thing I had to configure per system on 351 is the overlays. Everything else is perfectly setup.

Not sure if it's my rom but with the latest update and using the N64 core you mentioned, Mario Kart doesn't want to load at all. Went back to the normal default one and working fine. Anyone else noticing this? Edit: saw the comments further below about not working with zip files. Tried that and then it just booted into a black screen and had to hard reset, so don't do that. Or there's some control combination I'm not aware of because the normal ones didn't work to reset, etc.

Thanks much! this changes a LOT, sega saturn was unplayable the choppy controls ruined the console, developers hated it, everything actually had frame skips and the controls where almost unresponsive... '96 sony stepped in and provided a new world of quality I knew I wasn't crazy with my comment about Saturn crashing my console... saturn is a waste of digital/physical space, no offense intended I have one in my basement...

A BIG advantage of 351ELEC over ArkOS is that you can scrape and access GAME MANUALS on the device. It's great to be able to read the manuals, esp. if you are trying out a lot of games you've never played before. That feature alone makes the decision easy for me.

Hey, I don't know if this is related to this update or not, but I was fiddling around with the N64 emulator you recommended and had a few issues: -Not all the buttons seemed to do something, yet at the same time some buttons from the N64 controller didn't seem to be present (I couldn't hop). -I don't know what hotkey, if any, exists to access an options menu within the N64 emulator; I have to do the exit hotkey to get out.

I could be wrong, but I think Retrorun emulators don't have an options menu. If you're running the emulator through Retroarch, then it's select+X

Retrofit doesn’t have one but to exit the game you press select + start to leave the game. If your on Retroarch then press Select + X or L3 and R3 at the same time.

I went to follow this tutorial to update my device but I didn't have an "update" file to put the tar file in, so I made one but I don't think it worked cause I didn't get that window screen after transferring the Tar file in it and plugging it into my device and under information it says version: 3.8 so I am not sure what I'm doing wrong here. I appreciate your effort, and the info… but this literally made all my N64 games worse. The C buttons (right stick) don’t work at all, and several games run worse than they did before. WWF No Mercy, Road Rash 64, and Fighting Force 64 are all worse on the emulator you suggested. Pretty disappointing. Again, I do appreciate your effort, just leaving feedback based on my experience.

ArkOS is still way better for N64, at least for right now. I switched from 351Elec last night. If you have extra SD cards laying around it's worth it to flash both and makes it very easy to swap.

Thanks for the Video, Russ. Switched to 351ELEC, but there are still bugs. Super Mario Wars gives a Guru Meditation on exit and i can't get Xrick to work for gods sake. The Rest works OK but the boot and launch time is waaaaay slower compared to ArkOS. Hopefully they will optimize their otherwise good distro for speed in handling.

I was trying to play Wrestlefest on my RG351m. I got the rom then put it in correct folder. I even ws able top scrape it. I had put the rom in the mame folder. So i went to play it, the preview video is there and show the preview video. When i load the game it gives me a message of "Software failure. Check log file..." cant anyone point me in the right direction. This came up for a few of the other games i had like shock troopers, Storm blade and SengoKu. i thought i could just drop them in the MAME folder on my sd card. thnaks for any help.

On RG351V it's messed up....like now you get 3 emu's but both duckstation and swanstation...and in psx rearmed the controller doesn't work. I just went back to arkos...overall winner for me. Wish 351elec had an online update feature within the os like arkos does.

Hi! I hope someone can help me. Is there any configuration menu for the parallel N64 core? When trying to play mario kart 64, the START button is assigned the jump action. In yoshi's story, the button layout semms fine, but the map shows a faulty image, like there's a bad configuration with that specific game.

Thanks for the video 👍 I tested the new 351ELEC (604) with the RG351V in a video (TAR update video) and found that the Dreamcast emulation (Retrorun/Flycast) causes significant performance problems with Crazy Taxi or Virtual Tennis. Have a look if you feel like it. Can you confirm that with these games too? But I can also report good things. The DS Emulator drastic now runs a lot smoother. Regards 👋

Fair enough, it is a little intimidating to flash new firmware. I would recommend buying spare SD cards and doing it on those, that way you can always revert to the old cards if something goes wrong!

Russ I've found that almost all of my GBA games won't load after this update. I get that software failure warning that you saw when trying to start one. I flashed back to the 351 reborn release and its working again.

Most of these sleep/wake issues are hardware related and will likely never get fixed. Besides, the fact that DraStic is a closed source emulator makes it impossible to fix even if they did find a solution.

I'm not sure if this is a 351elec or specifically the Retro Run emulator, but this made my N64 games unplayable. Several button inputs stopped worked, such as my R1. My R3 button would no longer register, which meant I could no longer close a game

For some reason i cant get 351elec to work on my 351m, everytime i boot the device i only get lines of code scrolling down. Sometimes it will boot after resetting aa few times sometimes i just have to give up....tried different SD-cards, fresh download of the image, fresh unpack, nothing seems to solve the problem. On the other hand - using the very same SD-card flashed with arkos will boot the device first try.... Any ideas what could be the problem?

For some reason I just CANNOT get N64 to work in Retrorun on my RG351V in 351ELEC. Dreamcast Retrorun works fine, Naomi works fine, and Retroarch cores for all of these systems work fine (if slowly), but N64 Retrorun just attempts to load before dropping back to the menu. Aside from that hiccup (which may very well be user error), this iteration has been an absolute breeze to use.

Try a different N64 Rom file? Maybe what you’re using doesn’t play well with RetroRun.

Did you update with release 3, which came out the past day or so? This is one of the things they fixed. They re-released with the same build date, which is causing a bunch of confusion. Just redownload and update to make sure, it doesn't hurt anything if you already are in the latest version.

LZdoom works great on my 351V, but it forgets my control configuration whenever I power off the device. Not a big deal, but if there's a fix or I'm doing something wrong.

I opted for 351elec as I found that using ARKOS on my RG351V I couldn't seem to use the second sd card??

There’s a setting in the Options menu that you have to turn on for the SD2 to work in ArkOS.
