Nice review and a great sounding car. I have a mildly remapped example running 325bhp on the stock turbo and exhaust (decat downpipe only) and it is plenty quick enough, though doesn't sound quite a good. I might have to look at a 3.5 inch system.

The Astra is amazing. Here in the US it's rare as shit but we didn't get the fast version. We didn't get the new Astra at all though. Good thing I'm moving to Germany :)

In South Africa its called the Opel Opc, 2engines went boom cars run lean weak 95octane,forced to do software and downpipe , 1cracked turbo later everything seems to be fine!

OPC is Opels performance division. In South Africa it's called the Opel Astra. The same goes for all of Europe.

The tyre pressure monitoring system is clearly showing in this video that the near side front tyre is under pressure. This is why the yellow warning light is on for tyre pressure. I have owned an Astra J vxr for just over 8 years now and I can assure you that it is a great car. I would also recommend that if you are running the 20” wheels, 39psi on the front and 37psi on the rear. Below 34psi will trigger the tyre pressure monitoring system to display the yellow warning light and show you a picture on the dash showing which tyre is requiring attention.

You don't see many because unlike the previous Astra VXR which was offered as its own thing at the top of the range, you had to spec up an Astra GTC with an areo package and other bits to get the VXR in this model of Astra.

I had one new in 2012 for 2years as my daily. Great cars, but be careful of the blue ones. Bad paint and had to have mine fully resprayed front to back under warranty due to 1000s of stone chips. Also Lacquer peel/clouding on alloys from stone chips...... apart from that did nearly 40k in 2years in mine as a daily and never once skipped a beat. Enjoyed every moment of it!!

Ye I have arden blue and the paint is terrible, it grazes from bird poo if you don't clean it straight off and even the sun can damage it if its not got a good layer of wax on it. But to be honest I love the colour and because I always wax it to protect it I get compliments all the time about the blue with black wheels

But I have the mk5. So much more fun to drive once remapped and exhaust due to the weight, the 2010 model is 2 ton and don't sound as good as the mk5. Mk5 for me as long as you fit a whiteline rarb to deal with the shit handling

My mum used to have a 16 plate, now she has a focus RS but the thing I miss about the vxr (the only thing I didn’t like the car for the most part) was the front bucket seats, they were fully adjustable and you could get them set up for comfort or if you need them to hug you for track driving

@@anthonyshackleton6178 Yeah I got it mapped to 321 bhp... only problem is that I am now getting a yellow warning light (EML Light) for the cat because the ecu thinks its broken.. I thought the remap would rectify it but it didn't so I am gonna have to install a lambda spacer and hope it will pass an MOT 🤞🏻

Nice looking, heavy car & chocolate gearboxes, no automatic alternative. The seats are notorious for the tilt mechanism catch to break and GM do not supply the parts to fix them.

They are fun cars for us poor folk :) got mine in black but i think there will be issues ahead had for year get slight nocking noise on full lock under acceleration had gear box oil done and bushes but i hear these have shit gear box and good be somit 2 do with the diff any 1 had any issues them self ??

I have a J VXR same colour... and imo I think the Astra H VXR sounds much better. On cold start up the J sounds wicked.... but after about a minute or so.... it quietens down somewhat......

The h sounds 100% better than the j. The j is over weight and the extra 40bhp don't make up for it. Drive a h then drive a j you will be disappointed. Find a reliable mk5 with a stage 2 or 3 map and a rarb and you will smile everytime you drive it

In the first 6 months of ownership with mine... Alternator failed, Gearbox failed, Diff failed.... all sub 20,000 miles. It spent a month of those 6 months being “fixed”. Didn’t make it to a year of ownership. Worst £16,500 I ever spent 😂

Avoid the Insignia Turbo my polish mate Lukas had a 2 year old one and turbo went after only 24000 miles cost him 2 grand to replace

As already mentioned, the gearbox is well known for major issues and the folding seat catch is a common failure which you cannot buy parts to fix.

Steve Mcguin I just had mine replaced....they fitted a new release mechanism in the seat so you can get spares. My VXR is just a standard one, would love this conversion.

Not a fan of the new Astra VXR the old one was much more fun with the crazy torque steer, also the gear ratios are way too short in the new Astra , on a Motorway it would get left behind by the competition.

Don't worry about that :p With a Vmax of 250 km/h (should be around 155 miles per hour, i think...?) the Astra is faster than other hothatches as the Megane RS and Golf GTi...
