You're worth a thousand manuals, sir. I learnt everything there's to know with your beginner reloading series and the 9mm video so far. Now I'm starting to reload 38 special and already went through half of this vid. Always the more instructive around ! Thank's a lot.

The first loading set I ever bought was a Lee die set. The old kind you don't need a press for. I was 14 then and now I am 68. I have loaded and hunted with the .357 all that time. I carried a Rossi Puma .357 as a truck gun on the ranch. I began using 2400 and Blue Dot powder because I use both rifle and pistol. 2400 usually requires a magnum primer but I have done both with it and had no problems. If you want to keep your brass separate and not mix up different loads color the head of the case with a magic marker cuz the bullets once loaded look alike. I lean toward the 140 grain bullets. I have harvested everything with the .357 including elk, deer, coyotes, and some wild dogs that were killing calves. I am listening to this video as I load a box of 158 grain bullets for my pistols. Bear thumpers.

Yes, it made a lot of sense. Your presentation is nicely methodical. I’m getting into reloading by addressing .38 Special because that’s the most expensive and least available cartridge that I shoot. Maybe, 9mm, next. But, 9mm is readily available and, relatively, inexpensive. Again, nice presentation, from what I can tell at this point in my reloading education. Blessings, Grace and Peace 😊

I never experienced unburned pistol powder using Unique with standard primers. Unique is a great powder for moderately heavy loads in .357 and .45 Colt. With ultimate loads, I used H110 w/ a magnum primer. I'm sure there are many other great powders out there now. I'm old, so I just know what worked before.
@danielsalach1234
@danielsalach1234 4 жыл бұрын
Nice video, if you still looking for the difference between the primers it is the pressure the standard will flatten out with lower pressure and the mag will take more pressure to flatten out so that give you an idea of the pressure.

43:20 Who else immediately thought of the Rah Band? ;-) Regarding SPM vs SP primers: depends on the powder, not the caliber, as you rightly pointed out. Vihtavuori N110 is a great powder for .357 Magnum not requiring SPM primers. Then again, your domestic Hodgdon H110 is a spectacular choice too - but that does need an SPM primer. (Response to an old post, I know, but couldn't resist. Keep up the good work, much appreciated!)

Good pair of weapons for .357. Beaut of a revolver, and fine choice of lever gun. Personal preference, I like the side gate loading over the tube fill / pushrod style, but a fine gun nonetheless.

The only real problem I think you're going to have is addiction to the .357 carbine. Be prepared to find excuses for why you have to go to the range more often. And why, even though reloading is cheaper, you're spending more money. Good luck. And have lots of fun.

Hey Johnny, Unique is an awesome powder and if you look in the older Speer manuals the velocity using that powder is right up there otherwise pick up a pound of CFE Pistol or Power Pistol, use standard primers and your cast slugs. You'll love it. For True magnums Ramshot Enforcer IMHO is a much better powder than H110/296, higher velocities, lower spreads and cleaner without the flash. It's my "Go TO" for everything from 327 Federal to 450 Bushmaster.

Can use tite group with either Sp and Spm primers. I have used both. Hodgdon on line manual used Spm with Titegroup for 125/158xtp/hp bullets. Like the Lee die set , might get a set. TiteGroup can be used in 38&357 mag and in small doses, 1lb will load A LOT of both.

You'll find that hot 357 is just as comfortable in the Henry as plinkers...but in the GP 100 the vibration is killer on the hands. I've loaded 12 grains of Lil' Gun under those 200 grain bullets. It hits hard...not fun to shoot in a hand gun.

What are the pros and cons of brass versus nickel?
@JohnnysReloadingBench
@JohnnysReloadingBench 8 жыл бұрын
I don't know of any advantage to nickel plated brass over regular brass. I think law enforcement prefers it for the corrosion resistance. Internet folk lore says that nickel plated brass doesn't last as long because it is more prone to split. I don't have enough firsthand experience to verify that. I would just stick with normal brass unless you have a reason to go with nickel plated. I bought nickel 38 so I could easily sort my 38 & 357 when I took it out of the tumbler.

They didn’t get corroded in a leather gun belt. The failure rate for nickel plated brass is at least double that of brass. The nickel seems to make them harder. I generally trade off my nickel plated brass as it torques me to have to throw out so much brass.
