Nicely done, magDad! I'm partial to this size claw hammer as they can manage many, if not most, of one's indoor needs without having to resort to the use of the more readily available and heavier 16-ounce hammer which can be overkill. Working with an attractively restored tool makes a job so much more enjoyable, kinda like driving a nicely cleaned and prepped car. And with six more weeks of winter per P-Phil, we'll have more time for indoor shop projects for sure. Keep up the good work!

Ames was a shovel company founded in a small town called North Easton, MA, the next town over from where I live. The old granite buildings are still in place and are very cool looking. Surprised the hammer does not say made in the USA. Nice piece. Thanks!

That cleaned up very well. As you said, looking good, but not too good so it can be used. I have a Craftsman fiberglass handled hammer from the mid 80's. I used this until I missed some nails and caused minor splinters on the side of the shaft near the head. I then got an Estwing hammer which I love. I still have the Craftsman, but it is rarely used these days. Dave.

I have one exactly like it that was sold by Montgomery Wards as a Power Crafter but it has a steel handle with the same blue foam grip, flat aspects around the head and light gray/blue paint in key places on the head. I wonder who made it to be re-branded? I think I have seen Stanley hammers like it as well.
