My first lens was a 50/1.7, and the second was 28/2.0. It was quite clear that i preferred the 28 over the 35, and I don't regret it. Now I discovered that my thing is mostly the range from 70 to 300, even maybe sometimes above that, if I had lenses. And now I bought a pretty expensive used 35mm/1.4 a few weeks ago, and I love it. It is moderate enough as wideangle to get away with it for most photography of people. I have the 50/1.4 and 85/1.4 when portraits are the goal... The 35mm is really wonderful for low light without tripod or flash, and it has good image quality. I don't like flash, or maybe just lack the skills and experience to use flash well. As a bonus, it can be a "50" for my APSC camera. I am very happy with this and using it a lot.
@mattisulanto2 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing. True, a 35 doubles up nicely on APS-C as a 50. Then again so does a 28 which becomes like a 40.
@karlbrodowsky77442 күн бұрын
@mattisulanto My 28 is still manual f-stop and manual focus, so more for the case when I especially want a 28. If the 28 were still as important as it was, I would have to buy a newer one. Then, having a 35, it would be a 24mm. ideally 1.4 or 1.8. And that is a 35 for APSC.

5:22 I agree with you Matti, a 35mm Lens are not a "boring" Lens, it is a focal length that is "easy" to use for most people, that is why so many fixed lens compact cameras have 35, 38 and 40mm Lenses, it is a very versatile focal lenght, not too wide to make disturbing distortion and not to short if you just go closer, as Robert Capa said "If your pictures aren´t good enough, you are not close enough".

I just received a Fujifilm X110VI I have had on back order since March or April. The 23mm crop sensor roughly equals a 35mm. I think I can work with it, I'm used to the Panasonic 14, 15, and 20mm M4/3 lenses, I'm not sure that it makes much difference. Not being that experienced at street photography, I mostly appreciate the small size and quiet nature of the camera, the digital teleconverter gives you a 20MP file, at50MM equivalent so that adds flexibility.

I have several 35mm and 35mm equivalent lens for my different cameras. During the years I photographed events I used a Pentax K1 MKII along with a K3 models from the K3 to the k3 MKIII. one of the reasons I used a full frame and APSC Camera bodies is most of my lens can be used on both bodies, I have a 35mm f1.4 art lens and I used it as a 5o mm equivalent on the k3. I also had a few Pentax limited series primes that I could use on both bodies giving me greater flexibility. I also carried a Pentax 24-70 F2.8, for the most part I used it on the K1, but at times I used it on the k3 with great results. The bodies being DSLR's worked out well because I liked using slightly larger bodies when doing event photography, I felt I had better shooting experience with them. Take care Matti. Happy Holidays.

I had my Fuji 23 1.4,LM,WR, R lens for sale until I took it out for one last day. photos were great, sale cancelled. One lens that was very hard to get was the Fuji 27 mm f2.8 R WR , but I found one & it's been on my Fuji X-S20 almost from the time I bought it. Matti if you buy this lens get the dock also. I've read on BH site the reviews of the first version having issues like the auto focus was fine but got worse over time. There one review of this lens on BH and it got three stars. Samyang seems to be a hit or miss sometimes don't know if the camera body plays a part. I remember Sigma lens back in the DSLR days being a hit or miss with auto focus all the time. I know someone that has a Sigma 85mm f1.4 and never had any issues with their Canon DSLR. Hi Matti, now there have been made at least 44 different 35mm Lenses for Sony full frame Cameras. I have the excellent Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm Aspherical which is compact and built like a tank, it have outstanding good optical image quality ! In 2023 I got the Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar 35mm 2.8 T* ZA used for US $215 (taxes included), I wanted this Lens for when I will go as light as possible. I can highly recommend both of these 35mm Lenses. From 1995 to 2006 I used my Leica Minilux which have an excellent 40mm Lens, I think the Leica Summarit 40mm 2.4 on the Minilux is the best Lens ever made for a compact analogue fixed lens camera.

Fine lens, Matti. But if i would spent 600 bucks for a decent 35/1.4, i'd put 250 EUR personally more onto the table, and get the Sigma 35/1.4 ART lens. Because - it offers (almost) 35/1.4 GM image quality, for half of the price. The Samyang looks a bit too plasticky for my eyes, in terms of build quality. But i am settled, i do have some 35mm lenses, also one 35/1.4, even it's for SLRs, but works perfectly fine adapted to my Sony.
@mattisulanto13 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your insights on this. The Sigma is also a lot bigger and heavier than the Samyang which in my opinion offers really good image quality too. It may look plasticky but the build quality feels really good. Anyway, we all have to choose the gear we feel is the best for us😀

@cameraprepper7938 And we all know that, but the Sony is uber expensive. Anyway, i'd choose my Distagon 35/1.4 anytime over any 35/1.4 GM - because it's all about the rendering, 3D Pop, character, not clinical sharpness for my personal taste...shooting since march 1984. Horses for courses.

I hate Samyang for releasing this so silently. :D I bought their 50/1.4 II only 4 weeks ago because I wanted a fast aperture prime that isn't too expensive, so I got a used copy of the 50/1.4 II with this lens station that always bothered me, and now they come up with a cheaper 35/1.4 option with weather sealing and no lens station necessary. I could really bite me somewhere because 35 is my #1 focal length. -.- However, when I was on a small trip by foot some days ago, I was mostly pleasantly surprised how nice it was to shoot 50mm only. With a 35 you get a bit more room to feel safe if there is not enough space; you can go closer or use APS-C mode on a 35, but you can't uncrop a 50. As the 50 is even smaller I might stick to it for now.

Well putting around 600€ in a Chinese lens is for me a certain risk… about longevity. We can see now that optically they are good ( viltrox, tt artisan, Sam yang) but not sure that they are reliable on AF versions as they are very young in this area and there are more risk than in manual build. Also for 500€ and even less you have access on second hand market to sigma art or Nikon Afs ( not for Sony this one) which are built like tanks and no reputation to contest. I do prefer to limit Chinese lens to 200-300 € max on my side with the sacrifice of 1/3 of stops.
