Hi Matti, it was nice to have Tuomas sharing tips together with your tips. Shooting from the hip is a good technique as Tuomas said giving you a different perspective. I liked the photo of the Dog and the Window in the Background. It makes it more interesting having the Window in the Background. A nice day with a photo buddy it, was nice to see the enjoyment you had on this Walkabout. Many thanks Matti. 😊.

Thanks for this. I loved the photographs and the against the light with long shadows photography were my favourites.

Thanks! This is what I call real street photography. The pictures really represent the street environment! Will test from the "hip"! And Matti, do you go out without a Sony T-shirt? 🤠
@mattisulantoАй бұрын
Thanks! Left the Sony shirt home this time😅

Really fun video, great technique, I will have to try. Also wanted to say I very much enjoyed your ezine on M4/3 cameras. I just bought a Lumix GX8 for casual shooting, and now that my GAS is satiated, I plan to mount my compact 15mm PL on it when it arrives and try "shooting from the hip"!

Thank you so much for your support.

With some cameras you can use the phone app to visualize the scene and activate the shutter. I have tried this with a Lumix GX80. Very stealthy.

Great photos gentlemen !. Another angle to try amongst a lot of your other tips Matti. It's my heads memory capacity that needs a bigger capacity card.........

Thanks! I know exactly what mean by that😅

After 40 yrs carrying a camera, I wanted to try street photography. Cool downtown buildings became far more interesting than random people. Slow motion video of people is more appealing and even that after a few sessions is just ok. Different strokes for sure.
@mattisulantoАй бұрын
Absolutely! Whatever works for you. There are no rules😀

Being 195cm, shooting from the hip gives a more realistic angle for most people 😂

I always struggle with focal distance when doing this. I set my camera at f/11 and focus distance of around 2m. But it’s so hit and miss. Thanks for the tips. I might just head out for another go!
@mattisulantoАй бұрын
You have to practice more. Judging by your videos there is not much street to shoot around your neighborhood😀 Just beaches and gorges😀
@petemellowsАй бұрын
@ it certainly feels like that sometimes! 😆

Have you tried just hanging the camera around your kneck, and use a remote trigger in your pocket? Maybe just standing/sitting there. Also using burst to get multiple shots might help. Thanks.
@mattisulantoАй бұрын
Never tried that. I still like the feeling when I nail the moment by timing my shutter release (almost) perfectly. Maybe some day I'll give that a shot. Thanks.

Hi Matti, Hi Tuomas, these are really excellent photos. I also really enjoy taking photos in Helsinki. Mostly on the way back to Austria. What options are there to share photos with you? I'll be back in Finland in August/September 2025. We'll go to Stockmann for a coffee or to Tetori for a beer. Best wishes from Salzburg Fritz

Use wide angle lens check. Auto ISO with f/8 and 1/1000 ss check. AF with facial recognition check. Thanks for these tips. Just wondering why Tuomas taped over the brand name of his camera(Fuiji)? Does he think this makes his camera less obvious?
@mattisulantoАй бұрын
Thanks! We hope the tips work for you. Tuomas taped the Fuji over for that exact reason.

At 3:24 you missed a great shot with the cyclist zipping past, fully backlighted, moving silhouette shot. Slow shutter, pan camera with bike, f11, perfect. 🙂 In Philadelphia I would recommend using a Nikon D700 in case you need to defend yourself with something. Great work, thanks for video.
@mattisulantoАй бұрын
Thanks for pointing out a great moment. We can't see what is going on behind our backs😀 I miss a lot of shots also because I'm filming video at the same time. It's not at all comparable to a situation where you only concentrate 110% on photography. I hope real Philadelphia is a bit nicer than that😀
@HansVanPaesschenАй бұрын
Why do you hide the name Fujifilm?
@mattisulantoАй бұрын
I think Tuomas wants to be discreet and inconspicuous. I used to do the same on my cameras but for some reason have not done that any more.
