Great video but you guys really need to learn how to prepare! We also arrived on the 16th. Could see how the weather was going and stocked up on as much bottled water as we could carry and lots of food (and wine). I’ll never forget the sound of that wind and the deafening thunderstorm a few days later at night! Apart from that we loved the rest of our holiday and the Kefalonian people were as friendly and welcoming as ever.

@@Doobrie7 Sadly we couldn't get our hire car until the Friday by which time the storm arrived so we couldn't drive to a shop (there wasn't one walking distance from us) That wind was crazy, we knew it would be bad but we still thought on the Thursday when we arrived that we'd be fine to collect our car the next morning, wow we were wrong, couldn't even open the front door safely!

It’s definitely not quite what we thought, the forecasts did not expect it either which made us think it’ll be a small storm and that’s it, then this happened. Wow guys! We've lived in hurricane central for almost 8 years and still haven't experienced as strong of a hurricane as you experienced in one day in Greece. I have to admit I'm quite envious, as I've always wanted to experience the eye of a hurricane. I'm sure it was a rough couple of days, but you guys were troopers, and it made for a hell of a video! Also so impressed with your commitment to getting a video posted on schedule with no power in the middle of a hurricane. Also, sorry if the experience ruined cereal for you for the rest of your lives! 😂 I am curious, looking back, which experience was worse between your hectic travel experience getting to to Greece vs your hurricane experience upon arrival.

Think we were too tired to appreciate how cool it was that we were in the ‘eye of the storm’ just appreciated the peace and quiet for a few hours and slept until part 2! 😅 The journey was stressful because of humans, the storm stressful because of nature! Personally I’d say the journey was worse because it was so frustrating where as this couldn’t be helped and it actually brought the best out in people seeing them help one another😊

At least you were in a house! We rode that storm out onboard our 16m yacht, our home, 29:38 as we live onboard full time! People died during this hurricane, and over 80 boats were sank. People we know who lived onboard lost everything.
@TideKnotTravellers10 ай бұрын
It was a crazy storm, we saw so many boats destroyed in the days following this. We felt like this hurricane/medicane or whatever it ended up being officially called was definitely played down prior to it’s arrival, no one seemed to be expecting it to be anywhere near as bad as it was.
@JayPerrypersonal10 ай бұрын
@TideKnotTravellers it was well forecast, we were in Agia Palagia, Kefalonia 5 days before. We sailed north to Sivota, Lefkada. The 2 days before, we moved further north to a protected bay close to Vonitsa. We were fine, ony lost 30 minutes sleep. Why boats didn't move from Kefalonia or Ithika was crazy!
@TideKnotTravellers10 ай бұрын
@@JayPerrypersonal in Kefalonia, the locals were telling us that a storm was expected but nothing out of the ordinary, hence we planned to carry on as normal and collect a car, the hire care people were the same expecting everything to be normal just a little rainy and windy. Maybe the boat owners who were there were told the same as like you say they’d have moved them otherwise.

@TideKnotTravellers well it was talked about a possible hurricane type tropical storm on the news in UK and Greece. The Greek met Office issued warnings of high winds and flooding. It was well forecast. We were watching it on PredictWind and other weather apps.

Ianos was a true blue mid level strength warm core tropical cat 1 hurricane, or low cat 3 cyclone by aussie measures. The media's and meteorological organisations demeaning of it as a 'medicane' or 'tropical like' is not smart and they need to stop as these storms are dangerous and will likely get worse in the future. I am glad you two were technically on the storm's leeward side of Kefalonia for the initial landfall and escaped the worst winds, thanks for your wonderful documentation, it is a true merit to youtube.
