36 story stair climb both ways at the Cathedral of learning pittsburgh, pa

running up and down the stairs in the cathedral of learning in pittsburgh, 36 flights of stairs is a long way, but running up all the steps is harder than it looks, I actually went back up again 5 minuets after the video. I know several other people have done this before and some did it with several trips, up and down and some even took breaks between floors, but I didnt stop, some even cheated by taking the elevator up part way.

Way to go! Brings back memories. I attended U Pitt back in 1982-84 and used to climb these for exercise and to relieve stress from engineering classes. Back then you could go to floor 42 or so. Check out Danny Chew's website on this climb, you won't believe how many times one person climbed these.

@patricknedz The 86 flights is single-direction. Can't beat it there at the Cathedral, because you'd have to stop, reverse, and go up again, whereas the ESB is constant.

@patricknedz You do so, and maybe, claim the record!!! I'm talking tallest non-stop KZbin flight, but in my case, it's a "Man-Powered Elevator" video. We'd have possibly 2 records in the community: 36 flights for stairs, 24 for "Man-Powered Elevator" (Since that record is in clain to specifically, MPE vids.) I'm sure there's a vid or two from racers up the Empire State Building (86 flights to lower observation deck), which blows us both clear out of the park.

@Balarick I dont know, it looks like a crawl space to something like wires or something, or pipes, its locked so we cant open it, but I have seen it at the courthouse too

@georgef551 the closest way to beat 86 in this building is to run up then back down non stop, then up again and down, then up one last time non stop, although going down is easier than up so I dont know if switching directions at the top will make it count as non stop going up three times is equivalent to 108 flights, the only way is to go back down but that might, not count as non stop. or would it?

@georgef551 I do plan to go back and try again, the tallest non stop was in this building 102 times in a row taking it 24 hours, I may have stopped a few times for a few seconds, but someone else that filmed going up these stairs stopped a lot longer

Nicely done! I honestly would not have made it past six, mainly because I have bad knees. Yay things you inherit through genetics :/

@georgef551 we could try to break the cathedrals record which is 102 times up and down non stop, it will be pretty hard to do this, took them 24 hours to do all that

@django772 yeah this is a long way up, it was fun though I want to come back and try this again. the record is like 102 times in a row, dont know how someone could really handle that.

@ :35 seconds, FAIL. Way for the partial MPE's. :P You paused a few times, sorry to say, becuase of that: You don't get Tallest non-stop flight. (Still at 24). For a better run next time, PACE YOURSELF. If you didn't run any, you'd have fared A LOT BETTER. Still, going all the way up view your own power is NOTHING to scoff at! Thumbes-upped the vid.
