First Mr. Expert, all Generation II and Generation III engines use the same outer dimensions in their blocks and have the same oil pumps. That’s every engine from the 290 to the 401. second, what hurt this pump is dirt. It makes no difference why engine you running, if you allow dirt to enter that lubrication system it will destroy the pump. the major problem with AMC engine failure is how the oil is routed in the block. It can be modified very easily to prevent oil starvation at the rear of the crankshaft. There are tons of videos out there on this topic, and a Google search will give you the data you need. to top that off Indy Cylinder Head makes a timing cover with an improved pump in it for racing purposes. They’re expensive, but work very well. Good luck on your rebuild.

You're the only one here giving off the air of a self perceived expert. So do tell, Mr. Snarky knower of all things AMC. When you say the oil delivery system can be "easily" fixed, do tell. The only solution I am aware of requires machining the block and modification of parts to complete. Imagine being such a loser you gotta try to crap on someone actually doing something and trying to share what they learn with others.

All AMC V8’s use the same oil pump. It’s the same design as Buick uses.

They sell a spring, gears and midplate kit at BJ's off-road did that to mine got her right back up to 40 psi don't wait because that's when you lose your cam bearings

Mine is up at 40 while driving but drops quick to 0 at idle. Is that what you were experiencing? I have a timing chain cover and oil pump gears on the way.

@@jackfitzpatrick668 yeah make sure you get the spring and midplate kit to once I did it the gauge never dropped below 20 stays at 40 most of the time

@@jackfitzpatrick668 do you think you could let us know if that fixed your problem. I have low oil pressure but i think i might have worn bearings. I already tried a pump rebuild and midplate.

Wow your biggest problem is that FRAM oil filter never again!
