BEST SESSION OF MY ENTIRE LIFE
-
Trained extremely hard on a heavy volume cycle leading up to this session and was jumping extra low than entire time. Probably for a good 4 weeks? Fatigue got to the point where I couldn’t even hardly make a regular behind the back but I knew my body responded extremely well to that type of training so I just trusted the process.
-
Fast forward a little deload and the day of the session and I felt absolutely INCREDIBLE. My legs have literally never felt that fresh in my entire life. Usually even on a dunk day where I’m feeling good my legs still have some residual effects from training but this day was completely different. Legs didn’t even feel like they were there. No soreness or any feeling at all and just felt super fresh and light. Coordination was also insanely on point this day. After that close to head at rim one hander in the beginning I KNEW I was about to jump higher than ever since that rim was just a tiny bit under 10ft. Literally felt like a 9’9 baby rim the entire session lol.
-
On top of that, for those who don’t know, back in early 2022 I jokingly told myself no haircut until I get 360 behind the back because I was only a few inches and a little technique work off at the time. Then I ended up getting a pretty extensive back injury and didn’t really get to try that dunk again for over a year because I couldn’t really train for 5-6 months (not properly at least and in a very health focused way over performance) and then after that I stayed away from spin dunks for awhile longer because those also aggravated my back for some reason. Now I considered just giving up on that little challenge of mine but I decided to stick with it anyways especially since I actually enjoyed the long hair. I also added a few extra dunks to that hit list like reverse 360 windmill and double elbow just to hold myself over until I could do spins again. Fast forward to now and I actually pulled it off which is crazy to me lol. 1.5 years without a haircut. I don’t know if anyone is actually going to read this far but I just wanted to throw this out there. Just feels wild to actually complete it after all that time.
-
Oh and there’s some more footage from Canada on the way so stay tuned for that :)

This is awesome! What would you say the best way to add to your vertical? Me and my dad have been going to a gym about once a week just jumping and it’s already helped my vertical by about 3-4 inches in 6 weeks and I’m wanting to get it even higher

Just jumping a lot a few days of week worked tremendously well for me in the early days but eventually progress started to slow down and even came to a complete halt for awhile. And then injuries started to appear so instead of just jumping I had to begin incorporating some weight training to break through the plateau and to stay healthy. I would definitely recommend doing both just on separate days. Also if you ever have to jump through pain, don’t jump at all. I made that mistake and it definitely can hold you back for awhile. But other than that, the exact training I did was by the pro dunker Isaiah Rivera on THP. Completely transformed my vertical so I definitely recommend heading over to his channel to look into that if you’re interested.

How long did it take you to get from a 30 inch vertical to a 40 inch vertical and how hard was it??
@TomDunks
@TomDunks Жыл бұрын
wrong question to ask man, the beauty of the journey is the unknown of how long the destination is and the hard work and sacrifice you need to reach your goals. Going for the easy quick option will not get you anywhere. Trav has gone through so much shit to the point I'd argue like 1.5 years ago his vert was max 10" and NOW LOOK AT HIM!

Tom is right. Everyone’s journey is different. How long it takes for someone to achieve X number of inches can be completely different than someone else. I had a 30” at 14 years old just from jumping and I naturally got it up to 36” by 16 just from jumping more and more but the same thing might not work for someone else given their injury history and age. Then I eventually got to 40” at 18. There’s just so many factors going into it that you can’t really use that to compare to yourself. You just gotta make sure you stay consistent and do you versus you.

@@TravisDunks thx I’ve been working on my vert for 2 years and the highest I hit was a 34 inch vertical and my 5,9 just gets hard when it’s impossible for you to gain inches and your friends just got it naturally from jumping
