Very good lessons, Ed. I’m very glad that the bowls were left open enough to blend exactly in to the new seats. They sure look better! People won’t believe the before and after pictures of these heads!

Another nice job ed, heads are only as good as a good valve job seat and guides let them be , all the porting in the world won't help without the other 3 things being right, thanks for sharing your excellent work and knowledge with us 👍

I believe that you are taking what most would consider junk and replace it with new heads . Very good video . I don’t recall ever hearing of the liquid weld . I was expecting some type of high temp loctite or something similar . Thank you for showing it all

Thank you Terry, I appreciate you watching. Sometimes things seem hopeless. It is easy to just throw things out. I think that we have all seen that. But, what if we have to fix it because we have no choice or alternative. Sure is nice to know how to do it. The sealant is called Fluid Weld. This will still alow heat to transfer. Loctite would not be the thing to use in this application. Have a good evening. 👍🇺🇸👍

Like you said go ... No go... Got a set of cheap snap gauges and that's how I've used them before... So it's good to have for your own checks... Great video Ed.

This is the type of job I did once, Toyota 1hz diesel, but when I was setting the shims for the overhead cam I didn't realise the connection of cutting the seat and the size of shim,if shim is large you cut some off of the seat to lesson the shim 😂 thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones

Good to hear from you Donald, thanks for watching. Overhead cams can be a challenge. Been there and done that. All the best to you and your loved ones. 👍🇺🇸👍

Great video Ed. Very informative. Would going to a smaller valve stem diameter help contribute to increased flow?
@edsmachine93Ай бұрын
Good morning Blake, thanks for watching. Yes, I think that it will help a little bit with flow. But the lighter weight valves are certainly a plus also. Have a good weekend. 👍🇺🇸👍

Can you also add hardened valve seats to 906 heads?

Hi Joe, thanks for watching. Yes I definitely can do this upgrade to 906 heads. This is a common practice. Have a good weekend. 👍🇺🇸👍

Do you ever stake your seats using the Kwikway staking tool ?
@edsmachine93Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching Kenneth. No, I do not stake the valve seats. There is enough press fit in the seat and the counterbore. Sometimes in aluminum heads I have a tool rolling over. In the old days they did stake with a tool. Especially on heads that had valve seats and a seat was removed to install a new seat ring in the same counterbore. Have a great day.👍🇺🇸👍
@johnnybrigham8754Ай бұрын
Do you Glue the seat into place? What glue do you use?
@edsmachine93Ай бұрын
Did you watch the video Johnny? The seats are Not Glued in! The material I used is called Fluid Weld. The seats are held in place by press fit. Interference fit between the valve seat and counterbore. Hope you understand this now.

Can you clear something up for me Ed? Which year Mopar's have hardened seats? It always seems random to me but maybe you know the rule.
@edsmachine93Ай бұрын
Hi Joshua, not sure when hard seats started. Around '73 to '75 to later '70's and beyond. These heads were definitely hard. Have a good weekend. 👍🇺🇸👍
@jseal21Ай бұрын
@edsmachine93 yeah I was given bad information. I was told that they were hardened in the early 60s to mid then not again until mid 70s which seemed really weird and impossible to remember. Thanks Ed, you have a good weekend too
@edsmachine93Ай бұрын
@jseal21 Hi Joshua, I was not aware of seats being hardened in the early 60's. I can tell you some of the hardening in the later 70's could be inconsistent. You could do a valve job and go through the heat treat. On inspection of the heads, if a valve seat is wide it probably is soft. The unleaded fuel causing seat recession. Have a good day.👍
