Absolutely Loved the Music before and during the Unload. 👍 Never seen a Location like this where the Crane had a Piece of the Side of Building attached to it to Close the Hole after the Loading or Unloading is Completed. Very Cool set-up that they have at this location.

I used to haul steel coils in Canada from Regina to Edmonton. We used similar coil racks except for dunnage we used 4X4's. Two coils on the main trailer and one on the pup gave us 110,000 lb. gross. The trailers were custom made from aluminum. The tractor was a cabover International daycab. We looked pretty funny going down the road but the money was good.

Whats the chances of one of these rollingin into the cab? Despite the securement being good what if u have to slam on ur breaks or get rear ended will it roll n crush the cab?

Hello Dan! Thank you for a very informative video, showing the use ofcoil racks! And thanks also to viewer p1kkujuha for you answer, when I spot the Q in the former video. And, yes, I handled these once, many years ago. And boy, what chains! And storage, under frame!👍

You always do a great job securing loads , I hauled coils almost every day for many years so over time I learned a few tricks actually a guy showed me a couple when the coil is set down on the wood watch closely and see that it sets in there straight, if it is a little off it will settle going down the road and your chains will loosen up. Also make sure the chain link is laying flat against the edge protector before you tighten if not it will roll over and loosen up. I always did this and I hardly had to snug them up at the first check.

The dunage is positioned in such a way as to prevent the coil from flat spotting. You could bend the daylights out of that if it sat on the deck. Posted for viewer/comment reader explanation.

When I owned my machine shop, we used to make parts and also repair parts (usually shafts and big heavy rollers) for the machines that make those coils into a finished product (steel only). My main customer Worthington Steel in Malvern, PA., got the coils in raw form (the steel was thick and full of mild slag) and they ran the coil back and forth thru the rollers inside the machine until they got the correct thickness and finish on the coil that the customer specified. They used my 24 hour service the most, we called them "break-downs" which really kept my machine shop in the Green with good profit at the end of the year.///// I know you been trucking a really long time (Walmart told me) hahahahh, but seriously, I'd like to make a suggestion that you either wear foot-ball knee protectors or those copper fit knee protectors that exercising / sports people use, for crawling under the truck for wood, on your knees getting heavy things from your tool boxes and perhaps even leaning over the truck to work on the engine and also why you are tarping up, etc... I'd hate to see you tear a ligament, or worse get arthritis in your knee joints as it seems you do a lot of crawling around, especially under your trailer as part of your job and storage. I surmise you probably craw under the truck to check your air lines and breaks as well. //// Did you have a inside tire low on air during this video, very back driver's side, as the out-side tire was bulging more than I thought it should be, but then I only glanced at it as your camera panned. The securement lesson I think was a nice thing for you to present, even I who know all things got a little lesson LOL.... Always nice seeing you Dan, wishing you lots of good loads and safe trucking......

@@maxpuppy96 You are exactly correct. We also did machining on the other side of the spectrum, we made a lot of needle loaders for Wyeth Labs (west chester pant) based head quarters was in Radnor. They closed too, about the time Worthington Steel did. (real shame) lots of workers got laid off between the two companies. Thanks for your reply Mark..........

Heres a formula california had back 20yrs , i still use it and DOT never says nothing ......only for suicide coils ... 0 lbs-10,000lbs =1 chain pulling forward/1 pulling back 10,001lbs-20,000lbs= 1 pulling forward/2pulling back 20,001lbs-30,000lbs=2 pulling forward/3 pulling back 30,001lbs-40,000lbs=3 pulling forward/4 pulling back 40,001lbs-50,000lbs=4pulling forward/5pulling back (10,000bl/coil rack) we never put chain in middle of coil , all the power stop incase of a hard break will be on the chains pulling back, so instead of putting that extra chain in middle i would put it pulling back , .....

I'm starting as a flatbed driver next week and just found this channel. This is awesome content bro. Got alloooooot of videos to watch and take notes. thank you! couple of questions 1) for the coil rack ( the metal piece) how do you decide where to put it on the bed ? do you just put it in center and then put the 2nd one behind it ? what if you have 3, do you go closer to the front of trailer or what exactly ? 2) when you said (1 securement per 5k lbs). do you mean chain and binder is 1 securement ? so if coil weighs 30k lbs then I would need 50% of that which is 15k lbs and each (chain + binder) is 5k so theoretically I would need 3 only ? Im asking because I seen some online videos from flatbed companies saying 30k+ coils need 8 chains... 3) what did you mean by 20 guys ahead of me ? dont you just call broker for load then go pickup if you guys agree on price and send in paperwork in email ? this what i did on dryvan. why wait 20 people ahead of you on the load ? thank you again.
