Sailing right around the boat in front, that shit never gets old

This was the race that pretty much declared who had the fastest boat for this America's Cup. ⛵🏆🇳🇿

I feel like this was the point where ETNZ started to figure out this "rolling tack/ gybe" that greatly improved their performance in manoeuvres. Pete and the whole team committed early in leg one to trying to leverage the new tool at their disposal with the quick "one-two" in the first leg that gave them the passing lane in the long run. And they got faster and faster as they refined the new manoeuvre as the match went on. Just goes to show that the development of these boats NEVER stops.

Although that was part of it, they figured out how to use the speed of the boat to get past luna. Used the boat speed to get past luna on the weaker side of the course as well

@@brettmciver432 yeah. That 1-legged JK at the bottom mark came out of nowhere as well, which gave them the speed they needed to execute the pass. Just shows how far ETNZ were pushing the boat and the crew who sailed her.

@@razzar_8 Yup took us 3 race losses to figure out how to beat them, and I don't think Peter was overly worried about winning the start although that helps of course. As long as it was neck and neck at the start good enough for him.

@@brettmciver432 ahhhh I wouldn't go that far, but I would say we definatly figured out the strengths and weaknesses of both ourselves and LR, and created strategies to combat them. Also, let's not be disillusioned by the fact that we DID get lucky in races 8 and 9. LR lost 8 minutes by falling off the foils in race 8 and the "kiwi puff" won us the race in race 9. Credit to the whole team for not giving up and keeping is close in both races, but you can't deny luck was involved on both occasions. Pete even said in an interview: "sometimes it's better to be lucky than good."

OMG. The audio on this is a train wreak!! Why did you turn the commentary down so it can't be heard over the sound of the boats? Everything's just mixed together into one hellish noise.

Some how I miss my sabot and canvas sails, multi billionaires and computer engineering keep real sailors from the race, that is not sailors taking the wind, but these machines are amazing

It's trickle down. Foiling cats lead to foiling moths. Its all sailing. If you can't see that maybe you should send a letter to the editor, by snail mail, not use the net. Everything grows. Scaled up foiling may just be a huge solution to the price and time of international travel. Imagine wind powered, electric assisted ships carrying hundreds of passengers from London to New York at a fraction of the carbon footprint of A380s or 787s. The kids getting buzzed in a moth or kite surfing ARE the future of sailing. My great love are the couta boats of Port Phillip Bay in Victoria Australia. They're old, simple and supprisigly quick in the right conditions. Doesn't mean these don't blow my mind. Oh, they may just save the planet. I guess I'm agreeing and disagreeing with you. But they are definitely sailors.
