Left in 1992 after 21 years of living in Reno, brothers still there. While I still enjoy my visits, Reno is not the same, not sure if it's the influx of so many Californians, but whatever the reason it is not as peaceful, not as clean, and not as safe...By the way at the start of your video the second arch shown is the timeline for "dragging" Virginia St. back in 74 thru 76. Thanks for your video!

Not a boomer & I agree. Terrible city planning has filled in all the open spaces with useless warehouses or desperately overpriced apartments. What made Reno pretty is mostly gone. The pace & vibe has fully changed for the worse, it becomes more like the bay area by the minute. Change is inevitable sure but it is sad to see change ruining everything. Been here 20 years, need to get out.

I got 10 more years before I retire and I plan on retiring in Reno, Carson City or somewheres in between. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and have lived in the Midwest for the last 25 years. I’ve been scouting potential retirement spots and I narrowed it down to 3 places: Santa Fe, Reno or Carson City or Wenatchee in Washington state. Every place has its issues but Reno seems to be the plus with more upside…at least for me. Thanks for the video.

I lived in Reno for a couple years and enjoyed it for many of the reasons mentioned. It did bother me though, to see so many mid-century modern buildings in irreparable states of decay, with seemingly little effort at preservation. Those little hole-in-the-wall motels and diners and bars and gas stations wirth their tacky Googie MCM architecture and signage. That style is associated with Reno more than anywhere else, and it seems like a missed opportunity not to see it preserved and incorporated into new constructions.
@seantaylor20463 ай бұрын
So true. This town was rocking back in its heyday of the 30"s 40" and the home architecture proves it. So many cool old houses and huge basements in most of them. It was a basement town.

My family moved to Sparks in 1968. Harrah's had a job fair in the Bay area and both parents were hired as blackjack dealers to work at his club. Dad joke for you: Did you know Reno was so close to hell that you could see "Sparks". 🙂 About the old auto collection, it is something I still brag about. As kids we were even allowed to get into some of the cars and there were airplanes in there as well. The entrance to the museum had a lot of cool stuff, but my favorite was a fully dressed mannequin in a dusty giant glass dome and the stuffed 2- headed calf. Virginia City used to have the Mark Twain museum and that had such wonderful stuff! But I think they had to close it down due to some sort of copyright thing. VC also had a jail museum that included a mannequin dressed in prison stripes seated in a gas chamber! Don't remember when that was taken down but someone up there might still have that info. I moved away in 1999 and though it's been 24 years, I didn't think I missed living there, but your videos make me want to come home. Thank you for showing the world its beauty and for sharing Reno's rich history.

I do not know what year you made this video but I lived there from 1950 to 1961 and Reno had a vibrant downtown which had something for tourist and locals alike but the last few times I've been there it was dead. It was a ghost town with many many empty buildings buildings for rent buildings for sale etc. and it was really tragic compared to what I experiencedIn the 50s and I'm wondering who is guilty of allowing the demolition of the Mapes hotel and most beautiful building there and an iconic building which should never have been demolished.

When Reno federal agents are thieves you know that the city is no good.
