3rd time visiting reno at The Row with family. Definitely not vegas but it's nice. Lived in Anchorage, Alaska for a few of my younger years but went back and spent my 20s there. Another good thing about Reno is the number of thrifts/garage sales/antique markets including a very good used bookstore. Another bad thing is the health care system -- we are dead last in health care access, meaning you will have to wait longer to obtain a necessary procedure/surgery. As for the practitioners, doctors tend to go to school here & then immediately leave for other cities. The turnover of doctors is profound. I've lived here seven years.

I grew up in Sacramento and wentbto university in San Francisco. My family always had a good relationship with Reno and my mother did fundraising for a church organization by booking monthly bus trips to Reno/Sparks. We got to know the marketing folks at several casinos really well over the years as well as the folks who wotk at the casinos (this was approx 1985-1998). I also had two family members move to Reno for work and live there for a while. My personal feeling about Reno is that it has been and still is a very welcoming and kind city and area.... (Reno specifically.... I dont count Tahoe because the people that actually live at Lake Tahoe arr a whole different vibe). To me, Reno folks are kind and welcoming and for the most part very genuine. Whether they be retail employees, university employees, casino/hospitality, municipal public employees, etc ... the people I have encountered have been so kind and they truky give the impression that they want people to enjoy Reno and come back. The attitude of being kind to visitors isnt just casino/restaurant/hospitality/tourism folks... I truly get this inpression that the typical resident cares about how their community and city is perceived and I can honestly say that I have always encountered wonderful folks in and around Reno, and I have been coming to Reno consistently since I was about 15 and I am now 55. PLEASE talk more about the local history that is available for people to jnow such as Virginia City and how close to Reno that town is and how historical and unique it is as well as othet lical history about Reno. I also think you should interview folks from UNR to give a tour or talk about how great the univerity is. Also, a local rundown of some of the cultural communities in and around Reno.... Italian festicals, Greek food festival in September, the Mexican/Latino community and their celebrations.... I think including more cultural and historical information about Reno would be great and add so much depth to people understanding what Reno is about versus mostly just the outdoor/sports enthusiasts and the ganbling crowd. I will always be a Reno fan and ibtruky appteciate that city and their community as i have many fond memories there and am always impressed by how the city is represented by its people. Great folks. folks. Thank you!

I've lived in Reno for 10 years. It was a lot better 10 years ago. Now during certain hours, mostly commute hours the traffic is getting close to Bay area level. the infrastructure here cannot support the amount of people moving here. Most of the highways are two lane and the people love to enter the freeway at 35mph also a lot of semi trucks. The weather has gotten worse as well, it's either cold AF or hot AF. You mabey get a month or two of decent weather, and that's not consecutive. It's also way expensive if you're in in the lower middle class.
@LivingInRenoTahoe4 ай бұрын
@@EE-fl1tw the commute is nowhere close to the Bay Area. The infrastructure and roads are being working on as we speak All over town. The spaghetti bowl is 6 lanes in both directions. Sounds like St. George, UT in some ways. This area is built above massive underground springs; that and other factors provide plenty of water. Very expensive to live here. Tourists, summer and winter--tens of thousands of them all on an infrastructure never meant for so many vehicles! Obviously, no casinos, bars, and all of the tobacco products are locked up. Very dry state--the desert air as well as far as alcohol is concerned. In all the years I've been here, I've never seen one homeless person camping outside and had one person on the street say something obnoxious to me. Health care is excellent; I'm a female vet and spent two months in the VA Nursing Home in Ivins; it's one of the best in the country. Schools are okay if you don't mind a teacher with a copy of the Book of Mormon on his or her desk. Utah Tech University is beautiful and is quite good, concentrating on the technologies. Very little crime--you can walk just about anywhere in the city after dark and not be fearful. Oh, aside from a small Latino/Latina presence, this area is...well...not very diverse. Mediocre restaurants mostly. Some wildfires and earthquakes, but more rare down here. The nightlife is a bit of a joke: a postcard showing St. George after nine pm is a solid, black card. 😄
