A few things: When Fripp first moved to NYC, he had about three years' wages saved up. He had three criteria for himself. Do your own laundry, do your own grocery shopping and take public transportation. I feel those encapsulate some things JGB talks about quite well. I think The Wenton King should review the Daryl Hall's "Sacred Songs"! Also, Terre Roche is part of the group "The Roches", who had their first and third albums produced by Fripp. There's a legendary Fripp solo on "Hammond Song" off the first album, it's on Spotify.

Correction: Jamie Muir joined a monastery - Fripp had never heard of "Sherborne"/the IACE until he had his "mind-blowing epiphany" whilst reading "Is There Life On Earth?" Correction: It's Brian Eno who's talking in the preface/Hadden Two/epilogue. BTW: other Haaden Two voices include Joanna Waton (RF's then-partner who wrote most of the words - and who met an tragic end in the Lockerbie bombing). I don't think the "big hoax" Eno chuckles about has anything to do with the Flood predicted by Bennett, Gabriel and others (including Hammill of course). Because in the other Eno dialog sections he's talking about music (promising something commercial, and seemingly damning Fripp's chord-progressions). If there's a hoax, it's the suggestion that any part of this album was "commercial". Fripp wrote the words to YBMU,IAC (strangely enough). A punked-up rockabilly thing - unusual for Fripp and unusual for Hall. It's hard to believe Fripp didn't have the idea for the "lyric" (sic) to IMNHEOM,BIHEOY. It's just like "I know a man and his name is George" all over again...except the sparring vocals sound almost like a premonition of the Sugarcubes! Fripp claimed to have speeded up and compressed an actual speech by accident - and the result was the four-second "static" BTW: Much has been said about the "you never remember a happy thing" dialog (Disengage versions 2 & 3), but what's more startling is the repetition of "it's not healthy..." [in Disengage version 1]. All this from the so-called "toilet training interview". I could air my theory about what was actually going on there, but...you really don't want to know, because I wish I didn't.

Not relevant to this discussion, but if you haven't already, check out Mr Stormy's latest "Monday Selection" release (came out late this March) on the DGM website. There's some pretty nice stuff in there....

I'm a bit Peter Hammill fan and I think "Disengage" is one of the best things he's done. I'd be interested to hear your opinion of some of Peter Hammill's work.

This is an excellent album, all sorts of things going on this collage of an album. Mary is the most beautiful thing fripp was ever involved in. I always thought Crimson vocalists were a bit blokey and reluctant singers coz no one else wanted to sing. They should of had a female vocalist who wanted to sing. That would of been interesting. But obs KC is a boys club. Shame.

Interesting tidbit: Judy Dyble was involved at the very early stages of the transformation from GG&F to KC.

There's this wonderful alien atmosphere about _Exposure_ - hard to encapsulate. Fripp unleashed, or something ... KC meets pop and punk influences for the first time. Hammill's manic vocals on a couple of the tracks. Collaborations with the Roches, Peter Gabriel, and Daryl Hall to boot. I don't own any other Fripp solo albums, but I can only imagine they are similarly, intriguingly weird. (LoL).

There was a compilation album called "Network" that featured a few tracks from Exposure and God Save The Queen. It contains a slightly different mix of "Here Comes the Flood" that I prefer even to the Exposure version. I don't know if you would have any luck finding it, but if you do, it's well worth getting even if it seems like just another repackaging.

I think this is a great album. I don't think your comment about "Here Comes the Flood" is controversial at all. Even Gabriel laments the cheesy Hollywood over-production from Bob Ezrin on a lot of PG1. He even recorded another version himself years later, but THIS is the definitive version.

Exposure is a rock music solo album by guitarist Robert Fripp, best known as the only constant member of the progressive rock band King Crimson.

Just imagine the Lineup of Fripp, Banks, Rutherford and Collins. Imagine the atmosphere...Three of the coldest musicians you can think of to a degree. Probably only for 5 days and then phil collins would've commited suicide

The vocals kill this album, such a shame I just don't like them.

Disengage doesn't quite work for me with Hall on vocals... I don't think Hall is quite suited for the shouty stuff. Hammill's shriek is far superior in my opinion! Hammill sang backup on PG4 as well. Still looking forward to your VdGG reviews whenever the time comes! I agree about Exposure and Here Comes the Flood. Both versions are better on this album. Even Gabriel agrees that The Flood is much more suited to have a sparse arrangement, like the one on here.

Agreed that this is the definitive "Here Comes the Flood"---rawest vocals, as Fripp has a gift for capturing (The Roches!), and "Brethless" is punkish "Red" if anything qualifies. His Daryl Hall LP "Sacred Songs" is also ace.

the ezrin flood is definitive. i disagree with the lot of you. simply because u r wrong. otherwise exposure is surely one of the greatest LPs ever conceived.
