37. Tour Of Blackbird - Our FP Orana Catamaran

Welcome aboard Blackbird! This week Kay gives you a tour of our 2012 Fountaine Pajot Orana, inside and outside. Most of our stuff, the stuff that can make a boat a home, is still in Florida, but we'll give you a tour and you can see the wonderful boat we are living on. We realize we need to get a drone to get some really nice shots of the boat. All in good time!

Merci beaucoup pour cette visite simple mais efficace. C'est ce modèle de catamaran que l'on envisage d'acheter. Il semble franchement très bien pour une famille de 3 enfants. L'idée des panneaux solaire est très bonnes avec la petit barre de traction. bon vent à vous.

Hello Gar! We have 4 - 350 watt panels, and 800 Ah LiFePO4 batteries. So far they have provided enough power for our needs and we haven't held back on usage of electricity. We've never had to plug into power at marina either. Typically we use about 20% overnight and fully charge the next day if there is full sun. If cloudy, it might come up a bit short. I say so far because we've not gone through a winter onboard yet, so the lower angle sun may impact charging. As Kay said in video, we plan to add another panel above the helm soon. We will keep you posted about our solar panels since we find them really interesting. Thanks for asking!!

@@sailingblackbird922 Good answer but, 800Ah doesn't tell us how much energy can be stored in the batteries. Watt hour (Wh) is the units that should be used (or kWh). Or you should state the battery voltage. 800Ah x 12 volts = 9600 Wh, OR 800Ah x 24 volts = 19200 Wh. There is twice as much energy with 24 volts than 12. It is common mistake for people to just say Ah, Wh provides far more information allowing people understand, calculate and evaluate better. With battery Wh people can understand what size batteries they might need. With solar at 1400Wh and 19.2kWh battery (24v) we can see you 13.7 hours of full sun to charge the batteries (0 to full).
