Are Snap-On tools great quality? Yes, absolutely, and I buy used ones all the time. Are they worth getting into serious debt for? Absolutely not. I love Snap-On tools, but I don't love the way they hook people into making payments forever. Their business model isn't based on selling tools, it's based on selling credit to buy their tools. Don't fall for it! Buy what you can afford, upgrade when you need to or want to, stay free of debt, and don't sign your life away.

I've heard horror stories about Snatch-on's return policy! You know what Tekton does? Take a digital picture, email it, with your physical address, (they already have your email address) and they mail you a new one. Here is what they say; Tekton tools are Always Guaranteed®. Once a tool becomes yours, we're available to help you no matter where you got it or how long ago. Our guarantee has no time limits and no fine print-just personalized solutions. Shipment of replacement parts is always on us. I'm pretty sure that would cover used or found tools, as well. Funny thing, back when I was a youngster, me and a few friends were renovating a cheap leaky boat. I found a "ratchet shaped object" in the bilge, and could see the Craftsman name on the handle. Told my buddies, "this looks like a new ratchet." Next day, it was! steve

Great advice to round out this video. My son is getting an associates degree in diesel technology right now. As I've been purchasing tools for him, he turned me on to Tekton, and they have really impressed me. I've tried warning my son that, Snap On, Mack, Matco, Cornwell etc all have nice tools, but it's really easy to get way in debt, only to look back and realize you didn't NEED some of those tools. I couldn't agree more with the point you made about some truck tools seeming "gimmick-y" or over thought. Solid wrenches and sockets will get you a lot farther then you think.

Lot of good taiwan tools out there and at amazing prices. all my daily impact sockets are taiwan and hold up and work great and fifth of the price of snapon on a deal day . Life warranty not that important too and at snapon prices even if warranty at least twice you still not seeing value. I can self warranty mail order 1 or 2 days, get napa deliver tools same day with parts or even go out and pick something up locally if real stuck but that never happened to date. Some things snapon make are great design thus worth having but that list is pretty short., german stahlwille, french facom, japan koken, taiwan Infar, kabo, rotar, kuani etc have world class top design feature tools at total value pricing . I could not of built my business up if had wasted thousands to a truck tool tab ... also wouldn't of had such a great usable tool collection ...

Ratchets are very low back drag and butter smooth and even better with bit of lube, tooth count low so not ideal for everyone but still good idea browse for anything bit unique or worth a try . Ive got koken sockets and ratchets over 25yrs of professional use and they do pretty good, not busted any sockets or extensions, did bust a breaker bar many years back .

Wow listen to how harsh those gears sound on that ratchet compared to the snapon. How do the Tekton tools hold up? How hard is the warranty. Part of what we pay for with the snap on tools is that truck drives up to your shop[ and you get warranty on the spot.

Tekton is a lifetime no questions asked warranty no matter if you're the original owner or not and it's a 2 day delevery of the replacement once you submit a picture of the broken tool on their website. I haven't needed it yet but apparently they are top notch at replacing anything. With the tool truck you might have to wait a week for them to show up and then hope that they even have it or you'll be waiting longer. Not to mention if they decide to send it back for rebuild rather than giving you a new one

TreYay83 ....Harbor Freight has a better warranty on hand tools and you don't have to wait on truck. Everyone has an equal to or better warranty as the Gypsy Traveling Tool Wagon has! If you find a Tekton wrench anywhere in any environment or venue that is not working as a new one should they will honor their replacement agreement. I pretty much agree on the power tools except for this kicker: I mostly have Milwaukee and DeWalt corded tools in my weld shop. Four years ago I bought a HF $9.99 41/2" grinder with a 25% off coupon for a grand total of $7.50. I've used the hell out of it when I didn't want to screw up my (good)? grinders. Works as good as the day I bought it. So I guess what I'm saying is I just don't know any more and to each his own. What is quality and how much is it worth? Probably no wrong answer. LOL Have a good one and thanks for allowing me a good windy rant this fine Sunday morning.

Surprised by the price of the SO dead blow; it's on par with other quality dead blows. The screwdrivers were expensive, but IMO the ratchet is worth its cost. This being said, I'm very impressed by Tekton - from the packaging and presentation to finish quality. I have their 3/8 impacts, pliers made by Wilde that Tekton sells at a lower cost, and a sample pack of the screwdrivers. No complaints. Thinking about it, I paid $6 for the 4-pack of screwdrivers. Wanted to check them out. Their tips - PH1 and PH2 - fit fasteners surprisingly well. I'm pretty tempted to go for the 6-point ratcheting wrenches you showed.

Mechanics prefer the large brands for 3 reasons. 1, The tools come to you, you need something, your a snap-on man, you phone him up and he is on his way. 2, Payments, greatest thing on earth for a company. They set aside so much money per month, week, or whatever for tool costs. for a job that needs a $90 tool, you cant charge an extra $90 for the job, you can charge some but it has to be included into labor costs. Most of the time is a flat rate, so you can get the tool and add it to the payment, bumps payment up $5 and you put your new tool in your box and move on with life. By the next time you have to add another tool, the first is or is almost paid off. 3, Most tools can supply home-gamers with all the thrills of changing their own oil in their nissan. But for the guy who is going to do it 100 times a day, 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year... Not so much. The reason Snap-on tools are sooooooo high is your buying a tool that assures you that this IS THE BEST for doing THIS job, and there is no denying it. That's why they are still sold, that's why there are still around. Any shop teacher, professional, or anyone who has a life time of experience with tools will tell you "Cry once" Yes you will spend a shit ton a cash, ONE TIME, not every 4 months when you have to buy that 3/8 ratchet yet again because that last bolt was actually welded and you have stripped the gears in your milfuky ratchet. Yes you can buy cheap tools but for the ones who use them EVERY DAY and EVERY WAY. Snap-On, Matco, Mac.. only tools to use.

Great video man. It would be cool to see a review comparison of tool truck vs internet tools head to head. Would paint a better picture of a price difference. I've spent money on cheap tools in the past some are still holding up, others are in the trash. I have many brands In my box. The build quality and ergonomics of snap on is far superior to some of my cheaper tools i.e craftsman, sunex, and tekton. The cheaper tools got me started and let me figure out which tools I used most to justify the investment in snapon, Matco, mac. Most of what I have now are Caterpillar branded tools. Many are snap on tools stamped cat. As a cat technician it's also cool to have cat branded tools. If you want to repair planes, trains, automobiles or sex slave robots with snap on tools or strap on tools that's your deal. I have noticed that you do get what you pay for in requards to most of the more expensive general hand tools. Be it in ergonomics or convenience of warranty.

Greenpea How is that taking advantage of someone? They ask their price and people pay for it with their own free will. You have to keep in mind that snap on makes stuff for professional mechanics who do this everyday for hours a day. Their not designed for people who don’t make money using the tool. As a auto transmission mechanic I’ve learned the hard way that Chris Farley in Tommy Boy was right. How do you know it’s not just a guaranteed piece of shit in a box? I have a fair combination of Snap on and cheaper brands and I do NOT like Tenkton tools. Their just not well designed for tight jobs. Crastman, gearwrench and Lang/Kastar are the affordable brands that I prefer. Even those brands are not as good as my Snap on tools. Craftsman has a lifetime warranty and is cheaper to own. But your constantly breaking them and it turns into a hassle to replace them after awhile. I’ve never broke a snap on tool yet and they save (time and money on the job) and wear and tear on my hands. Their 100% worth the money if you need them. And their still proudly made in the USA where companies like Mac Tools went to China and didn’t say anything. Snap on is still the best for a reason.

Also, I’ve noticed that if you shop on the snap on website the prices are significantly higher vs getting them off the truck for about half of their stuff. I don’t know why, it’s just something I’ve noticed.

Bryan--While you did do $370.00 of each tool brand for comparison's sake, it might have been more telling (dramatic?) to have purchased tool-for-tool in each brand and shown the absolute difference in cost. I realize that's difficult with some tools (like ratchets), as there may be no direct comparison on those, but you could come reasonably close. Also, Tekton may not, at this time, offer certain tools that Snap-on sells. I noticed, too, that the Snap-on order was purchased over two years earlier (02/12/2017), so the price differential would be even greater. I like Snap-on tools a lot, but their pricing for some of them defies logic. For example: $54.00 for a 5/8" spark plug socket (S9706KMAG)? Unreal.

Very well done. I don't doubt that Snap On manufactures a high quality tool but I have to think the law of diminishing returns is in full play. You may be spending several times more for a 25% increase in quality, for some that difference may be worth the extra money if it makes the difference in getting the job done. However for most people a quality tool at a reasonable price is the way to go. Warranties have improved across the board and Tekton's warranty while maybe not as convenient as the tool truck for a pro is still very customer friendly, snap a pic and complete a form I believe. If you don't mind me asking which editing software do you use for your vids?

I just graduated from Tech School 1 year ago (May 2019), and with my 50% student discount for Snap On, the equivalent set would’ve cost me $1784.34. That’s WITH 50%, boys! So you’re talking $3400.00 without my discount, versus $175.00.
