Do the fuel pump racks go to the full fuel position?, try the rack position with the ESS removed. They should move smoothly from stop to start. It doesn’t look like you have enough fuel at the pumps for starting, it should be shooting out the top of those pumps. Check the fuel priming pump, check the Stop/start Solenoid Windings Resistance as it doesn’t look as though the plunger is moving enough and then follow the flow of fuel through the system checking for restrictions etc, once you have enough fuel and pressure at all 12 pumps, connect an injector to each pump in turn and look for injector leakage and spray pattern, ie, 1-1,2-2, etc, finally replace all injectors and go for a start up.

@@paulnolan1352 hi. The ESS windings are 616ohms from memory. We're on the overhead gravity tank only which 'vomits' out the rail bleeds but maybe we need to look more at this & each pump for supply. Tbh the batteries were pretty poor on Monday so I'm rethinking that & likely charging slowly & fully off site. Your post has given me a lot to think about so thank-you. I.
@paulnolan13522 ай бұрын
@@iainf cheers Ian, do an insulation resistance check on the ESS to earth, should be virtually zero at 1500 ohms. When you recharge the Batteries look into the Cell compartments and see if any of the them are cloudy or brown or fizzing when under charge. All the best for now 🤙

It looks like an old Rushton Engine that bolt on the side of the fuel pump Shows you the spill closing which is the point starts delivering there should be one on the opposite side I would take both out put a piece of white paper on one side with a light behind it the get some body to bar the engine whilst looking through from the other side when the light just cuts out check the pointer on the flywheel and see what it's pointing at that will be the fuel timing for that cylinder there is an adjuster in that window below the pump to adjust it I used to have ground down spanners to adjust whilst it was in position which is a lot easier than what the book says from new they are not usually all the same you usually get the test sheets with the new engine. The water treatment plant in Birmingham had six of the with Generators attached I rebuilt all of them they had air starts they were duel fuel so ran on gas with diesel as a pilot fuel for the ignition as they had no spark plugs.

@@denis9450 thanks for a great detailed reply. It's useful to understand as much as I can about these locos. My Tef20 also has similar spill timing so I understand the theory. We're hoping the timing is fine as it was running in 2009 we now believe. I've a few tricks yet to try so here's hoping. I always say if this fires it'll make the main headline on the news.... 😊 I.
